00:19And now, she owns and manage their photography and videography company doon, Mars!
00:40And look at how the sun is just hitting her face at the background.
00:46Oh my goodness, nang ano ka eh.
00:49Mars, grabe ka siya.
00:50Pero sige, ka ii-enjoy na lang namin na chini-chika mo kami this morning.
00:55So, I would just pretend na pasapa mo kapid yun sa makakagandang lugar na yan at wala kami sa mga bahay namin.
01:01Mars, we really have to make the most out of this opportunity and enjoy the tour that Kejia has for us.
01:08So, pwede ba Kejia, can you take us for a tour around the neighborhood?
01:12Sure.
01:14Where is this?
01:15This is actually the tramway.
01:17This is the tram that goes up Mount Roberts dun sa downtown area ng Juno.
01:21So, how long na kayo diyan, Kejia?
01:26We've been here for eight years na po.
01:30Eight years? What a lucky little girl. How many kids do we have?
01:33We only have one.
01:36Oh, di ba?
01:37Okay.
01:38Wow, she's so lucky to be enjoying the outdoors.
01:41Yeah, hiking.
01:42Walang mask, mask, Mars.
01:45Walang mask.
01:45Sa lugar naman to Mars.
01:46This is still in Juno, but this is called Fish Creek.
01:51So, this was during the salmon run.
02:05So, you didn't just catch salmon there?
02:07Mars!
02:07Yeah, you can fish.
02:09You can actually catch them right in front of you.
02:10Oh my gosh, may bear, Mars!
02:12Yeah.
02:13Ano yung bear ba yan?
02:14Yes po, they're black bears.
02:16It's a cub.
02:19So, usually po...
02:20Is it not safe for you guys na nandiyon kayo sa area malapit sa kanila?
02:30So, as long as nakikita nila kayo and hindi kayo offensive, okay lang naman po sila.
02:37But these are wild bears.
02:37Hindi ako makapaniwala, Mars!
02:39Mars, ako din!
02:41I can't believe that you can just be that up close.
02:44To the bears!
02:46Kasi, yes!
02:51O, you have to pretend that you're bigger than them.
02:53O, you have to pretend that you're bigger than them.
02:53O, you have to pretend that you're bigger than them.
02:54Oh my goodness!
02:55Mars!
02:56Makakaya yun!
02:56Mars!
02:58Northern Lights ba ito?
02:59Ito naman, ano po, Mars?
03:01Para na-skillies po yung ganyan.
03:04Usually po yung Northern Lights, mas nakikita siya during winter.
03:09So, mostly September up to May would be the latest.
03:12Kasi madilim dito pag-winter eh.
03:14So, mas nakikita sila.
03:16I mean, yeah.
03:16This is a time-lapse, no?
03:18Sir, that was taken over how many hours?
03:22That was taken over about more than an hour.
03:25Oh, wow.
03:28Wow.
03:34Oh, wow.
03:35So, ito saan yun naman ito ginagawa pag-winter?
03:37Is this like your normal activity every winter?
03:41Yeah, we have this dito sa Juno, but then it's mostly dun sa interior Alaska,
03:46more up further north, like North Pole, Fairbanks.
03:50Yun po.
03:51Oh, wow.
03:52At eko yun naman.
03:53Ay, I'm so jealous.
03:54Or you're taking a hike?
03:57To the ice caves.
04:03What?
04:04Yeah.
04:05Mars, this is amazing.
04:09You know what, Mars?
04:14Nagdagan lang siya, because these are things that I didn't even know you could do.
04:18And now, it's in my bucket list.
04:20I want to be able to go to places like this.
04:35Pero, hello, Mars.
04:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:37Salmon, bears, ano pa ba?
04:40Glaciers.
04:41So, first box, wow.
04:42Ice caves.
04:43Wow.
04:44Yes.
04:46So, I guess, safe to say that, uh, adjusting was easy for you guys there.
04:52Uh, not really.
04:53Not really, kasi sobrang yung lamig po, actually, yung pinakamahirap.
04:57Yeah.
04:57Malamig ba almost all year round, or kailan ba umiinit ang panahonjaan, at gano ka sa dalila?
05:05Um, siguro, I'll say, siguro mga one week lang yung summer namin.
05:09It goes up to around 70 degrees Fahrenheit yung temperature.
05:13But that's the hottest that it could get dito sa Juno.
05:16And then, yung pinakamalamig, siguro, dito sa Juno would be around single digits, siguro, negative 20 Celsius.
05:23So, paano, you had to buy, like, a whole new wardrobe?
05:27Yeah.
05:27And it's expensive.
05:29The, like, yung mga jackets, uh, base layers, everything, yeah.
05:33Oh, oh, like, like, technical kind of wear.
05:36Yung activities, kasi, during the winter, wala masyado.
05:40So, you have to dress warmly para makalabas ka.
05:42And how naman is your schedule? Kasi, siyempre, you used to be so busy as a doctor.
05:47It was hard at first kasi, siyempre, yeah, I worked, like, siguro 80 hours a week maximum, no.
05:53And then, when I came, wala hong work. I just stayed at home, tas wala pa akong anak.
05:58So, it was really hard to adjust.
06:00But eventually, you know, as I got to know the area, and as we got to know, you know, more about activities,
06:05then nafigure out namin na kailangan namin dumabas and to do stuff, to hike, to ski, everything.
06:11Like, to do what the locals do. Para, you know, it would be, it would make things easier for you to adjust pag gano'n.
06:19Samars, di ba, from medical field, yun yung job nila here, sa Bukid doon.
06:24Pero when they moved there, naging photography and videography.
06:27So, parang medyo, yeah. So, how did that come about?
06:31Kasi, di ba, like, all the wildlife, the scenery, hindi, it's practically unavoidable.
06:46Sayang, eh. Yung notion about Alaska is that it's just all ice and all winter and all snow.
06:51So, it's actually not. So, during the summer, it's very, it's really very beautiful.
06:56Pero, like, ito yung pinupuntahan ng mga tourists on cruise ships.
07:00Kasi, every summer, there are cruise ships that come.
07:02It was only last year na kin-ancel nila yung lahat ng cruise.
07:06So, yeah, this is what people come to Alaska for.
07:09People come here to retire. People come here to relax.
07:12Kasi, I think, I think nature is the best gift that Alaska has to offer.
07:18So, yun, we took advantage and then we learned photography, videography.
07:23Mars, Keisha, thank you so much for the tour.
07:25On behalf of all our Mars dito sa Pilipinas,
07:27na siguradong na-inspire sa kwento mo, we wish you all the best.
07:31Thank you din po.
07:32Thank you, Mars.
07:34You're welcome.
