00:00Hi, welcome to The Conspiracy Show.
00:11My name is Richard Serrett.
00:13Crop circles are elaborate designs consisting of several interconnecting geometric shapes
00:19usually found in farmers' fields where the crop has been flattened.
00:24Some people believe crop circles are communications from extraterrestrials.
00:30Others believe they're produced by some unknown natural energy that creates these complex ground
00:37patterns.
00:38But in the early 90s, two self-professed hoaxters from England came forward and claimed they've
00:44been making crop circles with simple hand tools since 1978.
00:50So what's the truth?
00:52Tonight we'll meet several circle chasers who affirm that the scientific data proves,
00:58if nothing else, these enigmatic complex patterns remain one of the most awesome and tangible
01:05mysteries of our time.
01:07We'll also meet a member of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry who insists that these investigators'
01:14claims are hypothetical pseudoscience.
01:17science.
01:18Me?
01:19I just want the truth, and I'm willing to follow it wherever it may lead.
01:24It is time to redefine reality.
01:28Genetic enigma or a human-alien hybrid?
01:31That's how cynical I am now about the process.
01:32This is to mean technology can attack.
01:34They're going to ignore this.
01:35They're going to make it.
01:36They're going to make it.
01:37It has been engineered by the Illuminati.
01:42There's no doubt.
01:43I'm here just outside Philadelphia with filmmaker, crop circle researcher, Jennifer Stein.
01:47Hi Jennifer.
01:48Welcome to The Conspiracy Show.
01:49Thank you so much.
01:53How would you describe a crop circle to someone who's never seen one?
02:01Oh gosh.
02:03An amazing experience.
02:05An impression in the crop where the wheat is laid down almost as if it's steamed into
02:12place in an amazing geometric pattern.
02:16And you can really only understand it and see its geometry from the air.
02:20They're usually huge and highly complex.
02:22And it's a phenomenon that people are interested in UFOs and other phenomenon, ghosts and things
02:28like that.
02:29But a crop circle is a tangible thing.
02:32It exists.
02:33It's on the ground.
02:34It's a phenomenon you can walk into.
02:35You can research.
02:36You can dig up the soil.
02:37You can look at the crops.
02:38You can look at the plants under a microscope.
02:41So it's a more researchable phenomenon as well.
02:44If you're very, very lucky and you're able to get to a brand new crop circle, the plants
02:50are bent about an inch above the soil to the point where the seed heads are just levitating
02:55above the soil.
02:58They use nature's own mathematical ratio, which is the golden ratio.
03:06So it has a very unique shape, almost like the kind of shape you find on a shell on a
03:09beach.
03:10And the other beautiful thing about the genuine phenomenon is that the plants appear to have
03:14been laid as if they were laid in a display case in a museum.
03:18Everything is meticulously arranged without any damage, usually with a slight undulation
03:23to it like a sine wave in music.
03:25So it's almost like walking on poetry.
03:27Some of them are extremely large.
03:29The football field size area of geometrically flattened crop is not unusual.
03:38The football field size area of geometrically flattened crop is not unusual.
03:43Is there, was there, a particular crop formation that you were particularly intrigued with?
03:49Well, the Triple Julia set of the mid-90s was so amazing.
03:56It just, you know, they just blow you away.
03:59They're so beautiful.
04:00They're so intricate and they're so obviously transcendental that you just become totally
04:08bedazzled.
04:09So there was definitely a handful of them beyond any ability to put into words how you would
04:14feel about how wonderful they were.
04:15They just took your breath away.
04:17How far back do sightings or accounts of crop circles go?
04:21We have events that were witnessed by police in Britain in the 1920s.
04:25We have events that were witnessed by postal workers, agrarians, military personnel in 1890.
04:32And we didn't even have a report that goes back to 1670 in the natural history of Staffordshire
04:39in England.
04:40And back then they were talking about witches' circles and devils' rings.
04:44But they actually meticulously recorded the same details and evidence that we've found
04:48in the crop circles in the modern era.
04:52Since the government cannot hide them, they're out there, they can't control what's ever happening
04:58in the crop circles.
04:59The best way to control it in plain sight is to debunk it.
05:06Justin Trottier is the Executive Director for the Center for Inquiry.
05:11Justin, welcome to The Conspiracy Show.
05:12It's nice to be back on.
05:15The two famous self-professed hoaxters that came forward in England in the early 90s, Doug
05:25and Dave, claimed that they were making crop circles with simple homemade tools.
05:31I think when you mention Doug and Dave, that's really important is to realize that even at
05:36the beginning of the whole phenomenon, the two individuals that sparked the whole craze,
05:41they came out and admitted it was a hoax.
05:43And many others who have fooled the populace, who have fooled farmers, who have fooled even
05:48the media and gotten a lot of attention, frankly money out of that fame, have come forward
05:52and admitted that it was a hoax.
05:54You don't believe that Doug and Dave are responsible for most of these crop circles?
05:58Absolutely not.
05:59I'm sure they did five, ten, you know, ten of them.
06:03But if you look at a Doug and Dave circle or any of the other hoaxers that put up their
06:08hands and said, hey, we're hoaxers, which there was quite a few after them, the crop circles
06:13are impressive from a distance, but not when you get up close and have a good look.
06:20Doug and Dave cannot create changes in standing crop.
06:25When Doug and Dave flatten a crop with a board, you can see the markers.
06:29You can dig up the soil and you can see that there's no soil changes in the formations that
06:33they have made.
06:34We're also seeing skeptical inquirers, so to speak, like Joe Nicol, for example, who have
06:38actually gone out and produced crop designs that have looked just like the ones that are
06:44supposedly the real deal created by these freak phenomena or alien visitations or what have
06:51you.
06:52If you were to go out into a field, and believe it or not, grown men do go into a field with
06:57planks of wood and garden rollers, I kid you not.
07:01And the moment you actually do that to plants, you're going to crease them at the very base.
07:06And that's the defining thing between genuine and man-made.
07:10The ones that are hoaxed tend to have bruise marks.
07:13The laid crop has bruise marks on it, or it's squished, or it's torn.
07:19There's crop torn out of the ground.
07:22There's just damage that isn't immediately obvious, but any researcher that has any experience
07:28and takes the time can find it fairly quickly.
07:31You get the sense from the media that this is a whole joke perpetuated by two drunken guys
07:36that came out of a pub one evening.
07:38The thing is, they were regurgitating information that had been published at the time.
07:42What they didn't know is that most of the research had never been published, and it showed that
07:46the phenomenon is much older than we care to believe.
07:49You've stated that British intelligence, MI5, attempted to quell public interest in crop circles
07:54at one point.
07:56What was their motive?
07:57I think they're just like us.
08:01They want to know what's behind it.
08:03Certainly the question was raised in Parliament.
08:06Certainly a lot of money from the taxpayer was used to keep the crop circles under surveillance.
08:10Even after the whole Doug and Dave gabbekel came out, which we now know and can prove,
08:15came from a fictitious press agency that was created by the British Ministry of Defence.
08:20There's enough evidence going back 20 or 25 years to suggest that certain press agencies,
08:28fake press agencies, were set up to distribute stories.
08:32You know, the usual planted stories, the same as in the UFO tradition.
08:35It was created by a media company in Britain.
08:39And then that media company folded and doesn't exist anymore.
08:43So whoever created the Doug and Dave story, I think had a deliberate intent to take media
08:49off the track of seriously looking at the crop circle phenomenon.
08:53The whole Doug and Dave thing situation was created by the government, or a branch of the
08:58government, to basically keep the level of excitement in the population about the crop
09:03circles down as much as possible, to give the government as much time as possible to research
09:07it on their own terms.
09:09Not dissimilar to the way that UFO researched as well.
09:12If there's any correlation between the UFO phenomenon and the crop circle phenomenon, I would imagine
09:20that the same bait and switch type of propaganda is being exploited in this way.
09:28Since the government cannot hide them, they're out there, they can't control what's ever happening
09:34in the crop circles, the best way to control it in plain sight is to debunk it.
09:40These agencies react with fear rather than with wonder, as the rest of us do.
09:46We know that so-called experts can't tell the difference.
09:49To me it seems obvious that even those few in which we don't know the reality hoax or potentially
09:56something else, it makes more sense that they are caused by humans rather than aliens that
10:01have come a great distance just to make some really interesting images and then have flown
10:05away without a trace.
10:07Only when you actually experience one for yourself will you realize that you're having
10:10a religious experience.
10:11And I used to be an atheist before I got involved in this phenomenon and now I know differently.
10:20Are the designs of these crop swirls changing, evolving over time?
10:25Oh very much so.
10:26They began as simple circles, circles with rings.
10:30And after the development of straight lines then we began to get pictograms.
10:33And after that, that's how we get to the mid-1990s, now we're seeing fractal patterns.
10:38There's an aspect of fractal mathematics which is often played out or described in the fields.
10:46And as the years went by they got much, much more complicated.
10:49And the biggest I believe is 1.6 acres of flattened crop.
10:56If they've just gone into the middle of a field and etched on it, I am from Mars, we just laugh
11:01at it.
11:02But by making these symbols mysterious, mathematical, geometrical, and of course our cells are geometrical,
11:09we respond to that geometry and we like a good mystery.
11:12So we're going to inquire about it.
11:13But eventually they'll leave it up to us to find out and argue over, which of course we
11:16do.
11:17Talk to me some more about the physical characteristics of the plants inside the crop circle and how
11:24they differ from their neighbors outside the crop circle.
11:26The plants appear to have been bend by a non-mechanical force which leaves no physical impact on the
11:33plants themselves.
11:34So you have to actually allow for the idea that something that is non-physical is coming
11:40into contact with it.
11:41That's the main feature.
11:43So I figured, is there another answer to this?
11:46Is there something else along the frequency spectrum that could create these effects?
11:49And when I began to look at sound, both above and below the human hearing range, I was able
11:54to find the same series of effects that can be caused on natural substances like plants.
12:00If you ally infrasound with five atmospheres of pressure, you are able to send a very low
12:05frequency through a tube filled with water, which is essentially what a plant is, and you
12:09can boil the water in that plant in one nanosecond and it's been proved at Princeton University.
12:15And that's what we find in the genuine circles.
12:17Even all the way back into 1680 when the director of the Ashmolean said, when you break these
12:22plants apart and you smell them, they smell as if they've been baked on the inside.
12:26And that's what we find now.
12:28The cell walls of the nodes of the plant, the nodes are like your knuckles on your finger,
12:34the cell walls are expanded as if by Dr. Leavengood thinks microwave energy.
12:42There are very specific and unique changes that happen in formations that seem to be made
12:48by some plasma or electromagnetic energy that hits the fields that changes the components
12:55of these types of characteristics.
12:58You see expulsion cavities and blown nodes where steam expels out the side because it
13:03heats up and it needs to escape somewhere.
13:06You find micron iron-sized balls in the soil.
13:09And you can drag a magnet across the soil and the soil will stick to the magnet.
13:14You don't find this in Doug and Dave formations.
13:16Well, I looked into some of these reports and I'm not sure how comprehensive they are.
13:21I feel like until we actually have good solid science and replication of these kinds of tests,
13:29it's hard to actually conclude that there's anything to them.
13:32Freddie, take me inside a crop circle.
13:35Give me the whole five senses.
13:37What am I going to see, smell, hear, feel?
13:42Oh, there are many levels of experience with a crop circle and I had no idea until I got
13:49directly involved in this.
13:51I'd only heard information third hand.
13:55Only when you actually experience one for yourself will you realize that you're having a religious
13:58experience.
13:59And I used to be an atheist before I got involved in this phenomenon and now I know differently.
14:04Maybe it's like an energy vortex you step into.
14:06I don't know for sure, but personally I have had the most amazing precognitive, you know,
14:14synchronistic events that have occurred.
14:17So I think there's some connection there with time and space that we don't yet understand
14:22that gets a little distorted or speeded up with crop circle research.
14:26And that's another like deep personal experience.
14:29Right.
14:30Or the experience, they say that they've experienced a sense of feeling ill or ill at ease or something
14:34like that.
14:35I think there's a lot of experiences, uh, individuals that know that they're in a space
14:39that's supposedly holy or supposedly paranormal will often have those reports.
14:43It's a standard kind of placebo effect explanation, which I think is readily, uh, readily apparent
14:48in those kinds of cases.
14:49It always seems to inspire people in, uh, in a spiritual manner to any number of activities,
14:58which may just be, you know, meditation, contemplation of the unseen realities that surround us.
15:04I don't see any, uh, even the hoaxers who are, you know, some of them are quite egotistical.
15:10They aren't.
15:12When you talk to them, they're quite inspired.
15:14They love doing what they're doing and they'll say, oh, well, I hoaxed that one.
15:17But they take great pride in their hoaxing, you know.
15:20To me, it just suggests strongly that these are made carefully, planned and executed ahead
15:29of time with a lot of thoughts we are being communicated with.
15:33No question.
15:34Who or what do you think is or might be responsible for these formations?
15:42Wow.
15:43That is the million dollar question.
15:45And boy, if, if I knew that, um, you know, I'd certainly be sharing that with the world.
15:51After many years of research, I have come to suspect certain things, but I can't prove
15:56it.
15:57It's a part of history now, but Dr. Terence Meaden, in the early nineties, when, uh, the
16:04crop circles were essentially simple circles or simple rings, um, he developed some theories
16:12about, uh, uh, scientifically explainable ways that they might be caused in a, by weather,
16:21up drafts of wind or, you know, uh, small roaming tornadoes or whatever he called them at the
16:27time.
16:28And he was quite strong on that and had sounded very convincing when he spoke of it.
16:33Well, I think the crop circles that are less, um, obviously designed, that are simply roughly
16:40circular in appearance, that those may have been caused by things that are natural, like,
16:46uh, weather phenomena, just, uh, uh, uh, you know, taking out a roughly circular patch
16:51of, of crop.
16:52But it only worked when they were simple.
16:55When they got complex, which was as early as 91, with, you know, squares and rectangles
17:00and little things shooting off and, uh, the theory fell apart.
17:04Ultimately, is this a, a mystery that, that can and will be solved?
17:09I mean, are these clues that are being left for, for us, uh, leading us somewhere?
17:14I think they are, and I think that the fact that people have already been used to figure
17:18out technological blueprints, which are helping us to understand lighter than air, uh, lighter
17:23than gravity technology, uh, is one clue.
17:26Uh, I think that the people, 800 people who've actually experienced some form of healing in
17:33crop circles, or by looking at the pictures of crop circles, suggests that there's some
17:37energy at work, which is of great benefit to society.
17:40You can't deny that there appears to be a message.
17:46Maybe someone who has access to this type of technology is messing around with us.
17:54Possibly it's an alien intelligence speaking to us.
17:57They are a group consciousness that keeps popping up in Earth's history, usually associated with
18:03periods of temple building around the world.
18:06And they go by different names in different parts of the world.
18:09In the Christian mythology, they call them guardian angels.
18:12In Egypt, they call them the watchers.
18:13And I know it's a long stretch to go that far.
18:16It's quite possible that someone on another level of reality is trying to interact with
18:20us in a very intimate way to get us to move along.
18:23So maybe there are things we don't understand yet about the dimensional relationship of our world.
18:29To me, it just suggests strongly that these are made carefully planned and executed ahead
18:35of time with a lot of thought to communicate certain ideas to us from the non-visible world.
18:47We are being communicated with, no question.
18:51This one, I think, is closer to the case closed than some of the other paranormal issues that
18:58I've explored.
18:59I do think this one has a lot of evidence, overwhelming evidence, of the vast majority,
19:06perhaps all, of the cases of crop circles being caused by human ingenuity.
19:11So to me, it's human ingenuity that's worth exploring.
19:13I'm amazed, again, by how elaborate the projects are that the human mind can put itself towards.
19:21And I think that's worth continuing to investigate.
19:24There's no doubt that some crop circles are probably fraudulent.
19:29But I have a hard time believing that these immense, intricate designs, some of them resembling
19:36mathematical fractals, could be made by human hands.
19:40The plants found within crop circles have dramatically different physical characteristics than their
19:46neighbors outside the crop circle.
19:48The plant stems are of increased size, as if subjected to intense heat.
19:54The seeds taken from within the crop circle are noticeably smaller, and yet the crop yield
20:01inside the crop circles is 30 to 40 percent higher in one instance.
20:06The researchers and other observers who enter into a crop circle have reported feeling ill and
20:12hearing an odd trilling sound.
20:15To date, no man-made crop swirl has been able to duplicate any of these strange phenomena.
20:22Are these alien signposts?
20:25Are they manifestations of some mysterious energy force?
20:30Whatever they are, they remain at odds with modern science, and one of the most baffling mysteries
20:36of our time.
20:37And now, I'd like to know what you think.
