00:00Sabrina 90s show a girl and her cat.
00:04Hilda doesn't want to talk to a cousin on the phone, so she hands the phone to Zelda who agrees to spend the holidays together with him just because he's family.
00:13She even ignored when she was using magic right in front of her to create signs saying no.
00:18And yet Zelda says she should have said something. Hilda says he was so annoying. Then she could have avoided this by just telling him that.
00:27It makes sense that Salem's sad because he's a cat even on Christmas.
00:32Him being mean to Sabrina only gets a minor consequence of Zelda telling him to say sorry just to not punish him for refusing to do so.
00:42Somehow he wonders what's her problem after she refuses to bring him a pizza.
00:47He's called self-centered.
00:50And after they leave the evil cat on babysat like morons, he gets the idea to hide in her purse.
00:58She magically summons a gift for Harvey and brings the purse to the slicery.
01:03She says sorry I'm late and he says it's okay and that it's good to read Sports Illustrated because now he has something to talk about with his dad during church.
01:13He gives her a silver choker and she says she loves it. I just got reminded that they got together. The earlier episode ignored it.
01:22It turns out he has a sister we never see who has a neck like a linebacker. So she had helped him make it big enough for Sabrina.
01:30She gives him a scarf and he says happily that it fits.
01:34I guess Sabrina didn't hear Salem say what a dump for no reason because of all of the crowd noise.
01:41But it's not really conveyed properly in the show.
01:44You'd still be able to hear what the main characters were saying if they had a normal amount of crowd noise around them.
01:50Salem chasing a mouse gets Sabrina banned from the slicery.
01:55That's ridiculous. Especially since she even told him that he got into her bank.
02:01Good thing she established in the nerds episode that she's fine with brainwashing people.
02:05So the explanation for why she might be let in the slicery again is that she would be fine with brainwashing the slicery owner into letting her in again.
02:13Which is good for him because he'd make money off of her.
02:16It would clearly be stupid of someone to ban someone from buying from him again because of something that would never happen again.
02:24If that wasn't on purpose on the fault of the customer.
02:27It makes you wonder why he doesn't do a lot worse as a business owner because it wouldn't just be Sabrina making mistakes.
02:34It's cathartic to see Sabrina call Salem stupid a lot.
02:40Somehow Salem refuses to get back in her bag and stays in the dumpster.
02:46Surprisingly Harvey doesn't insist on taking the cat home or even call her out on it.
02:52Zelda tells Hilda that she's been making Christmas dinner for 280 years.
02:59So she expects her to do it this time.
03:01Why didn't she expect her to take turns with her?
03:04A later episode reveals that Hilda's terrible at cooking.
03:07So I guess she means making Christmas dinner with magic.
03:12Otherwise she's stupid.
03:14Cousin Monty acts completely unannoying.
03:18He reveals he's got a girlfriend who is in a box because she's a contortionist.
03:23His pet Newt was way into Salem's scheme and was promised Denmark.
03:28He's almost disappointed in Sabrina for leaving Salem alone.
03:32And she calls him a house pet even though he technically isn't.
03:36And he would have ruined their Christmas party.
03:40I guess it makes sense that they would have gotten attached to Salem after being with him so long.
03:45But this episode doesn't explain it because he was rude from the very beginning.
03:50He just comes off like he's terrorizing their house.
03:53Even though it's probably only a Christmas thing because he was basically fine in the previous episodes.
03:59A kid brings Salem home for a pet after accidentally running over him with his bike.
04:04When they still don't know where the snake is.
04:07Hilda gets annoyed at some kids throwing ice at the door and uses magic and they complain.
04:13I don't get to see the slapstick so that's dumb.
04:17Zelda doubts a warlock's story that he was born in a Nebraskan lighthouse.
04:23His mother could have made the lighthouse.
04:26That kid should have been suspicious that the cat called Sabrina.
04:30But all he does is hang up.
04:32Monty says he'll pay a ransom for Salem.
04:35Zelda says you can't file a missing widgets report for 24 hours.
04:40But why don't they just warp Salem here?
04:43It should be explained that he's immune to the entirety of his body getting affected by magic.
04:49Since magic is keeping him in cat form.
04:52Sabrina and her aunt look for Salem and Zelda magically brings to life someone on a poster at the dumpster to ask him what happened to Salem.
05:00Sabrina asks if Salem got hurt by the bike he got hit by.
05:03I guess it wasn't at max speed and so he only got bruised.
05:07One moment he says he's gotta go back to work and talks about a concert.
05:11The next he willingly goes back into the poster because he knows he's just an alley poster.
05:16And I guess a part of the spell is that he doesn't feel any existential dread over that.
05:23I really wish that I was told why they couldn't warp Salem to them.
05:28Instead of seeing a montage of them asking people silently if they saw Salem.
05:33It is kinda satisfying to see Sabrina get punished for potentially leaving Salem to freeze to death or get put down at the pound.
05:40But the real Sabrina would never do this to him.
05:43The kid gets a net put over him by Salem who runs out of his room as I wonder how he got the net.
05:48Only to be instantly caught by his father.
05:51They don't even write this to happen.
05:53I just want him to get rewarded for how smart he was.
05:57Sabrina gets lied to by the kid.
05:59She should know this very well could have happened during the montage.
06:04I guess they only tried it out of desperation.
06:07She recognizes the kid's lisp.
06:10But the kid's selfish mother covers for him.
06:13Even though they still don't know where the snake is.
06:16Sabrina eventually plans to knock the kid down and run out of their fest.
06:23Hilda first congratulates her but Zelda doesn't approve.
06:27But at least is silent about it.
06:29She doesn't explain to someone who needs to learn that she'd get in trouble for it.
06:35Maybe.
06:36There's a lot of blonde girls in the city.
06:38Why doesn't either of them just give her the idea that she comes up with?
06:43She disguised herself as Santa.
06:46Who gives him gifts.
06:48At least that's trying to make it up to him.
06:50And it's respectful of Sabrina that she came up with the idea.
06:54It's just a little weird that her experienced old aunts didn't come up with the idea first.
07:00Sabrina says repeatedly that the Christmas present is in the bank.
07:04Getting Salem to go into the bank.
07:07It's nice to Sabrina that she got to have a smart plan that doesn't expose magic.
07:12The family got to have fun singing along with the Christmas carol at the piano.
07:16At no point is it ever lampshaded that witches are celebrating a Christmas ex-pacon holiday secularly.
07:23They don't insist on calling it Saturnalia, unfortunately.
07:29Monty gives his girlfriend something beautiful and proposes to her.
07:33He must have terrible social skills that she's used to because he says he doesn't care if she's poor and has no spine.
07:40She gives him a holiday trip gift because she waited until now to say that her dad's rich.
07:46It's smarter to find out if he really loved her first.
07:49Salem says it's the best Christmas ever because he just loves the wrapping.
07:54Somehow the kid doesn't want to ride his new motor cross bike and play with his toy dump truck
08:01and refuses to give his dad the spatula because Santa gave it to him.
08:05What is the point of showing us this scene?
08:07He also got a Neil Diamond CD and asks to put on Sweet Carolina again
08:12and his parents stand up to him again by saying no, which is satisfying at this point.
08:17I just wish Sabrina didn't have to give him gifts to keep her cover at Santa without scaring him with magic.
08:23Even if she froze him in time, it still would have scared him when he woke up without Salem and he blamed demons for it.
08:30She got here from the chimney with magic, so she could have waited until midnight and took Salem home when he was asleep.
08:36No gifts that would make him not appreciate the gifts from his parents needed.
08:41But there's no guarantee a brat would be asleep at midnight, so I guess I can't blame him for not taking the risk.
08:47This story by Frank Conniff has Sabrina uncharacteristically leave Salem to potentially freeze to death or get caught by the pound.
08:55And then it's frustrating that it's never explained why the family has to search for him manually instead of just warping him home.
09:03It could have explained to the aunt to know they could do that, but intentionally put Sabrina through this to make sure she learned a lesson.
09:09That Sabrina wouldn't have even needed to learn. Hilda should have been the one who abandoned Salem.
09:15Usually I hate mandates and so should everyone because they're authoritarian to support for restricting creativity fans would like.
09:23But this isn't the kind of creativity anyone would like because it ignores the appeal of the main character.
09:29If it goes against a major part of the appeal of the entire franchise, it shouldn't be allowed because either everyone would hate it,
09:37or it'll be good to new fans that missed the appeal of the series in the first place or never even got to learn about it because they arrived too late,
09:47which makes it a mis-aimed fandom.
09:49Combine that with the fact that there was a chance of getting allowed as a part of the plot.
09:54So there should have been a mandate against making Sabrina evil outside of the context when she was already selfish in the comic.
10:02What was the point of the story if it was just frustrating and boring and most people don't need to learn this lesson?
10:10How little faith did they have in their audience?
