00:00I know a lot of people love this thing, and you want to shove the all-time coaching win percentage NBA history,
00:05740 winning percentage over the last three seasons, like great, all of that.
00:09But like the Hardo act, the way he goes at some reporters, and he does it in such a bitchy Hardo fashion,
00:15I just, he's good as a motivator, I think he keeps the egos happy, I think he's good that way.
00:21How is he as a tactician? How is he as an in-game coach?
00:26He's just too reliant on the threes, and then this Hardo act, I'm not the biggest Missoula guy.
00:31It's a combination Hardo and New Age mumbo-jumbo.
00:35I mean, the post-conscious, unconscious state and the duality of the, is New Age mumbo-jumbo gobbledygook.
00:45It's poppycock. It's trash, is what it is.
00:48Alright, I'm just going to, my thoughts on Missoula, you all probably know them if you listen to the show.
00:53I don't think much of him as a coach. I really don't.
00:57But it's not that he's, that he has no redeeming qualities.
01:02You know, he's, he is a young, hard-working, driven, motivated guy.
01:08Yeah.
01:08There's no question about that.
01:11He definitely has the locker room.
01:13I feel that he's done a good job, and the players relate to him.
01:18And even though he's probably in the bag for Tatum, that, he hasn't lost Brown over it.
01:25He hasn't lost the room over it.
01:27The team plays hard.
01:30I think they're without drama.
01:33I mean, really?
01:34You don't hear off-court crap with these guys?
01:37No, he keeps the egos in check.
01:39I think that's his best attribute.
01:40So that's really nice.
01:41It's not easy to do in the NBA, have that talented a team, and have a hard-working, mostly together, drama-less sort of thing.
01:50He deserves credit for that.
01:51So I give Joe, he has helped with the atmosphere in the locker room that's really good, really solid.
01:58And, again, I think he's motivated and intense, and I think intelligent, but I frankly don't know how intelligent, because I don't trust the numbers guys.
02:12And I think he's a numbers guy.
02:14I think he's hyper-reliant on analytics.
02:19He's hyper-reliant on the numbers.
02:22And I generally look at those.
02:24And so, I mean, they're intelligent, but are they basketball smart?
02:27You know what I mean?
02:28Of course.
02:29So that's what I'm driving at.
02:30He obviously has got a big brain, because he can handle all those numbers and all that data.
02:35And so, like, I'm not saying he's some sort of idiot.
02:38But I don't know if he's a smart basketball guy the way I would want a smart basketball guy to be.
02:43Instinctive.
02:45I think, by definition, the numbers guys are not instinctive, and the numbers guys, to me, are not good coaches.
02:54And I do not think Joe Mazul is a good coach.
02:56Which, and I think I have more evidence of it than you could ever have, and that is last year, you played, you coached, your play style and your coaching cost you a shot at a championship.
03:07And everybody knows it.
03:09You can't argue that.
03:10And whether that play style comes from upstairs or Mazula, he's an adherent of it.
03:16So he wanted him playing that way.
03:17And the in-game stuff, again, is overrated overall, but we saw a couple of cases here where the in-game stuff really hurt him and really hurt you.
03:27The coaching and play style of this team cost you a chance at another championship.
03:32So I do not feel good about Joe Mazula, but I'll just say again, young, hardworking, can he change, can he get better, can he learn, can he evolve, can he go away from the numbers and just coach the game more like it's needed?
03:48Maybe.
03:48Anyone can change, it's just the willingness there.
03:51So that's what it's going to have to be.
03:53Otherwise, he's holding you back.
03:55And your play style is holding you back.
03:57And I've been telling you that.
03:59I told you that before you lost to the Knicks.
04:01And now you know it.
04:02Now you know I'm right.
04:03So the play style that Mazula preaches and believes in cost you.
04:08If it's going to work, he has to get better.
04:09He's got to change.
04:11And he's got to get better.
04:13And if he does, maybe he'll be okay.
04:15But otherwise, I wouldn't feel great about it.
04:19We'll go back to the phones here.
04:21How about Billy in the car?
04:22Go ahead, Billy.
04:24Hey, guys.
04:25Speaking of somebody that definitely does not deserve a statue, I think Breslow, after making one good trade where he got the ace pitcher, everything else has been terrible.
04:36He hasn't had any feelings.
04:38Speaking of somebody that doesn't have good instincts, I think he's been going downhill.
04:42And if somebody holds the Red Sox back, I think it's going to be him with the core they have.
04:48I'm going to stop you.
04:49Is he being too harsh, Maz?
04:50Maybe a little bit.
04:51Look, I would say that the crochet deal, in a lot of ways, is an easy one because everybody knew the guy was an elite talent.
05:00And I would give Breslow credit for Narvaez.
05:03Like, that's a good move.
05:05He identified, they identified a guy in the Yankee system.
05:08And again, it goes under his watch.
05:11So however they got him, that was a guy that had more value than what the Yankees thought he had.
05:18And they got him over here.
05:19And he's been a good add.
05:20So, like, to me, that's a good move.
05:22Now, in the bigger picture, do I worry about Breslow?
05:26Yes, I do.
05:27I think he's one of these guys that is going to be, generally speaking, defer on the side of caution.
05:34And always make a move with the long-term more in mind than the short.
05:38That would scare me a little bit because, you know, to win, sometimes you've got to sacrifice the long-term.
05:44Joe and Danvers, you're up next on Agenda Free Friday with Felger Maz and Big Jim Murray.
05:48Go ahead, Joe.
05:49Hey, Felger.
05:50Happy Jeff Fisher Day.
05:52I wanted to say a quick, Joe Mazzula might suck.
05:55He kind of sucks.
05:56But, like, when he jumps on the court and tries to block the guy's shot after the whistle so they can't get the shot off, that's cutting-edge stuff.
06:01Not a lot of coaches are doing that.
06:03Tell them.
06:04But a couple quickies.
06:06So, I think you remember five years ago you gambled on the Patriots opening day against the Redskins at the time.
06:11But you got tonight.
06:12It's minus six and a half pass.
06:13I think they'd definitely win for Vrabel, for Brady.
06:15Maz, we're going to get anything out of that picture with the tattoos, Tanner Houck.
06:20And, Jim, I got a tear and a potential Tom Brady could be doing the Brian Urlacher juke.
06:28Remember when he juked Urlacher, he did that sweet-ass spike.
06:32And then the best tear.
06:33I'm going to stop it.
06:34Enough.
06:35The more I look at it, I'm convinced he's holding up the Lombardi trophy.
06:38There's a point to it with the way it's draped.
06:40And as you talk about it, they're going to want the Lombardi, the championships represented there somehow.
06:47Right.
06:48To tie it into the team or the era.
06:51You know what I mean?
06:52Yes.
06:52And if it's just Brady, then the crafts are left out.
06:57It's too singular.
06:57The crafts are not going to be left out.
06:59With the trophy, it's remember how awesome we all were.
07:03Exactly.
07:04Exactly.
07:05The trophy's in there.
07:07We are represented in the trophy.
07:10I would have weighed in on some of the things that he said, but when you give me eight things, I can't remember any of them.
07:15Was there any one thing in there that he said that I...
07:17There was something.
07:18There was something, but that's when you ramble on and give us like 18 things.
07:22One take at a time.
07:24Was it a point spread in the game?
07:24Was it a point spread?
07:25Oh, yes.
07:25Point spread in the game.
07:26Yeah, what are you betting tonight?
07:27Nothing, but I would bet first half.
07:29So I learned my lesson.
07:31By the way, that bet that I bet five years ago, I nailed except I'd lost.
07:35What?
07:36I'll tell you why.
07:37I'll tell you why.
07:38Exactly.
07:39That's what I'm talking about.
07:40Not really.
07:41Yes, you do.
07:42The Patriots had done nothing in training camp.
07:46Put them through a chill bill, total nothing, first two weeks of training camp.
07:51And I said, they can't possibly be ready.
07:53How could you...
07:53I would, you know, lay it in on the skins, right?
07:57Or the commanders, whatever.
07:59And I think the commanders were up like 17-3 at half.
08:03All right.
08:03You got backdoored by...
08:05I got backdoored by all the jabronis who were working at the car wash the next week.
08:08Who was the quarterback at the time?
08:10That's right.
08:10Yes.
08:11Yes.
08:11I was counting my money, and then all the dudes that...
08:15We're working at the car wash.
08:17Guys that ended up selling insurance two weeks later cost me my money.
08:21And that's the last time I bet preseason.
08:23That's why...
08:23I don't know how you bet preseason.
08:25But people do.
08:26It's part of the reason why this game will never go away, because of the handle, as I've
08:31been told by our sources in the gambling community.
08:34There's too much bet on these games.
08:36But I don't know how you do a first half when the real players, maybe?
08:41How about Marty in the car?
08:42Go ahead, Marty.
08:44Yeah, thanks.
08:45On Missoula, I guess the way that I look at it, it's very similar to you guys, is that
08:49one, I think basketball is a very, very difficult sport to coach.
08:54You've got a billion dollars in salaries tied up in Brown and Tatum.
08:59I think Danny Ainge and Stevens are two elite basketball minds, and they couldn't reach them.
09:05Missoula has reached Tatum.
09:07And the last thing I'd say on the Celtics, I still think Brown and Tatum lack that killer
09:12drive.
09:13And Missoula almost has to give that to Tatum.
09:16And without it, they can't do it on their own.
09:20They're not Bird.
09:20They're not Jordan.
09:21They just don't have that.
09:22And Missoula reached Tatum.
09:24You've got a billion dollars in those two guys.
09:26I think you have to ride with them.
09:28Okay.
09:28Well, you're hitting on the strengths.
09:29And I would agree.
09:30I'm not a Missoula guy at all.
09:32But I agree with those strengths, that he can reach Tatum.
09:36And if he's there for Tatum, and you get the most out of Tatum, then that's definitely
09:40a reason to keep him.
09:41I mean, a reason.
09:43I think the bad outweigh the good.
09:45But you're hitting on the strength.
09:47I mean, I think that's it.
09:48That's the reason to do it.
09:49Tatum.
09:50Mike in Connecticut for Maz, I think.
09:52Go ahead, Mike.
09:54Well, I know you guys got a show to do, but your take on Coach Rabel getting in a fight
09:59yesterday, if you did any research, you'd know by all accounts.
10:02He was trying to break up the fight because he had his rookie running back in the bottom
10:06of the pile.
10:06You're talking like he was throwing punches at helmets or something.
10:09Just disingenuous, and it gave you something to whine about.
10:13Okay, Mike.
10:14Thanks for the thorough research there on that.
10:17Where was Dan Quinn?
10:18How come he didn't run in there?
10:19Yeah, so I was just going to say, I don't care whether he's fighting or breaking it up.
10:23What's the difference?
10:25Once you jump in and start getting physical with everybody, you're part of it.
10:29So that is incumbent upon other players to get involved and break it up or what have
10:34you.
10:35And look, I would say even assistants.
10:37I don't remember Belichick ever getting in the way of one of those.
10:40Ever.
10:43Ever.
10:44Ever.
10:44Ever.
10:44Ever.
10:44Ever.
