00:00Hey, it's People in 10. The Sidney Sweeney controversy is still in the news, with even
00:08the president taking a stance. You can't make this up. Let's break it all down.
00:15Hey, Mako, what's up? Hey, Lizzie. Okay, so this American Eagle situation is not blowing over. In
00:20fact, it's gaining more steam. What is the latest? While speaking on camera with reporters on Sunday,
00:25Donald Trump was informed that Sidney Sweeney is a Republican, which led to him supporting
00:29her recent American Eagle campaign, saying, she's a registered Republican. Oh, now I love her ad.
00:34He then went to Truth Social later and doubled down, saying, Sidney Sweeney, a registered Republican,
00:39has the hottest ad out there. Go get him, Sidney. I never thought I'd hear the president commenting
00:44on some jeans. Now let's back up. Why was this ad so divisive? There are a lot of different sides to
00:49this argument, the main one being critics describing it as racially charged messaging that hints at
00:54genetic superiority. The campaign uses jeans with a J as a play on jeans with a G.
00:59Others are slamming the campaign for catering to the male gaze. But of course, there are people
01:03out there who think this backlash is blown way out of proportion.
01:07Has American Eagle themselves, have they responded?
01:10Oh, they've not only responded, they have doubled down, claiming that it's only about the jeans
01:14with a J and that everyone looks good in jeans with a J. They're also probably doubling down
01:18because seemingly in response to the ad, American Eagle's stock increased 10% in just a few days,
01:24adding more than $200 million to the group's value.
01:27Okay, now we see the money, but where's our girl Sidney in all this?
01:30She stepped out for a special screening of her new film Americana on Sunday, her first outing
01:35since the controversy. She was heckled a bit, but she didn't say anything about it. And to be honest,
01:40with the heat she's currently facing, I don't see her speaking out on this for a while,
01:43if ever. I mean, they say there's no such thing as bad press, but this doesn't sound good.
01:48Well, thank you for the info, Lizzie. I'll talk to you later. Bye.
01:52We can't agree on much these days, but one thing we all seem to be loving,
01:56the love between these two. Sources close to their new movie have called it a budding romance
02:01and say Liam and Pamela are smitten with each other, which has been pretty obvious. But it's even
02:06better now knowing that the people in their lives are on board too. So Liam was of course previously
02:11married to Natasha Richardson until her death in 2009. But her BFF Andy Cohen says he's
02:17standing Liam's new relation and Liam and Natasha's son agrees. Oh, right Danny. Yes. Okay. Very good.
02:25We even spotted Natasha's sister, Jolie in the comments alongside many other famous friends,
02:30giving their stamp of approval. And just like that, it's the end of an era. As fans mourn the unexpected
02:38farewell of the Sex and the City reboot, they're now trying to decipher, is this about us? So Kim
02:43Cattrall, who wasn't involved in the sequel outside of that surprise cameo in season two,
02:48posted this the same day the news went public. And it was the end of the week. She posted it on a
02:53Friday, but the internet decided to interpret her caption as a reference to the very long run of the
02:58franchise. 27 years to be exact. And a goodbye to her beloved character, Samantha Jones.
03:04Her former co-stars posted emotional reactions of their own ahead of the final episode on August 14th.
03:11Tiffany Haddish is a master of mystery. She threw fans for a loop this week with this photo,
03:16beside her longtime friend, Jason Lee. But there's a twist. A baby. The caption. What cat? What bag?
03:23The people demanded answers. Did Tiffany have a baby? And some of them slew so hard,
03:28they may have cracked the case. They say the baby is actually the grandson of Jason's cousin,
03:32Natasha Brown, who's tagged in another post from Jason's other account with the baby and Tiffany.
03:38Is this enough proof? You'd be the judge.
03:43Summer is the season of vacations, parties, and quality time with those you love. Julianne Moore
03:48soaked up the sun, responsibly, on an Italian vacay with her daughter Liv and husband Bart.
03:54No sign of their son Caleb. But don't worry, he got in on the fun in the Hamptons a few weeks before.
03:59And while Mandy Moore took her brew to Mexico, Tom Brady and his kids enjoyed some adventures in Japan
04:05before he and his sister Julie celebrated their shared birthday on August 3rd.
04:09Magic Johnson's been up to his usual tricks this summer. He took to the seas in a superyacht with
04:13his fam, living it up off the coast of Spain. And Jennifer Garner rallied the Garner girls to mark
04:18sister's day with their mom. As a bonus, she even shared this throwback. Family for life.
04:24You know one thing you shouldn't do in summer? Go exploring somewhere off limits. But that's
04:30exactly what one man did at Yellowstone. He committed what's called thermal trespassing
04:34by walking across a protected zone and flip-flops no less. The area he entered is a bacterial mat near
04:40the famous Grand Prismatic Spring. These zones are forbidden for a reason. Delicate organisms live
04:45there, which give the landscape its signature colorful appearance. So you'd think he must have a good
04:50reason to be out there, right? No, he was just grabbing some hats that blew on the ground.
04:55Have some respect for nature, y'all.
04:59Speaking of nature, this one's wild. So Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver
05:04are being used as wolf repellent. Really? Let me explain. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is
05:11currently broadcasting an audio clip from their movie, Marriage Story. The intense fight scene,
05:16of course, to scare the animals away from areas of farmland. The goal is to keep the wolves from
05:21eating livestock and to teach them to fear humans. Hey, if you've seen the movie, you know that'll do it.
05:29Meghan Markle just turned 44, and so did her bestie, Abigail Spencer. The Friends and Form of Suits
05:34co-stars were both born on August 4, 1981. What are the chances? And to celebrate, Abigail posted an
05:40Instagram tribute calling Meghan champagne in human form. These two are clearly closer than ever,
05:46because then Meghan replied to thank her sweet friend and wish her a happy birthday right back.
05:53People grieve in many different ways, and Brooke Hogan got candid about that this week when she
05:57skipped her dad Hulk Hogan's funeral. Here's what she wrote about it.
06:01My father hated the morbidity of funerals. He didn't want one. I had to make my own decision to honor
06:06him the best and most genuine way I knew how, privately, the way that made me feel the closest
06:11to him. And the way she chose to do that, going to the beach with her babies, Oliver and Molly,
06:15the same one her father loved so much. Every grain of sand and every wave reminded me of being your
06:20beach baby, she wrote, and brought us closer to you. Gotta protect your peace and grieve the way that
06:25feels right to you. Now it's to sit down with Paula Patton. Hi, Paula. Your film Finding Faith
06:33premieres on the Lifetime channel August 9th. Faith is such a big word. It means so many different
06:38things to different people. Were you hesitant at all to be part of a project with faith as a major
06:43theme? Or did it almost feel like this project found you on purpose? Oh gosh, the movie definitely
06:48found me. I mean, it was just an undeniable moment. I got a phone call from my friend and neighbor,
06:54Charles Porter. And he said, Paula, I have a script for you. And it's called Finding Faith. And I was like,
07:01you've got to be kidding me. It felt as if, I mean, for sure, it was just dropped there.
07:08And it had so much heart and so many issues that I had dealt with my own self. I mean,
07:15this woman deals with addiction and I had been sober for seven years. I knew what it was like.
07:22It was also a mother's love for her son. And there was just so many parts of it that I could connect to
07:29that I just was like, this is a no brainer. It just, I have to do this.
07:35I read that you had to sort of remind yourself how to act inebriated because of your long-term
07:39sobriety. How was it going back into that headspace?
07:42Yeah, it was scary. You know, and I listened to a lot of the music I listened to then.
07:46I tried to bring myself back. And a woman who had recently gotten sober really helped me to remember.
07:53And so then when I was doing it though, what was kind of incredible was that I was able to forgive
07:59myself for the first time genuinely, because even as I'd been through this healing journey,
08:04I'd still been like, God, how did you do that? Why didn't you do this? You should have done it like
08:10that, you know? And somehow playing faith and going through it, I realized I did the best I could at
08:17that time. I didn't have the tools. I didn't know. And I don't know. I just was able to forgive myself.
08:24On the lighter note, um, where did time go? Your son Julian is a full-blown teenager.
08:30Your relationship with him seems so special. He has taught me so much about love, forgiveness,
08:37like, and just loving of life. Like he loves nature in ways that I had hadn't until he came into my life,
08:44quite frankly, since a little boy. I don't know where you came from, but you're a miracle.
08:49Your cup seems so full these days. Anything romantic filling it up at the moment?
08:54I'm not telling you, but I'm going to be honest. I am a single woman. I'm just, you know,
08:59I'm just giving you a little. God has your king for you. And you just have to go about your life,
09:05enjoying every moment. Don't wait on anything or anybody. Just trust and know that when the right
09:12person comes, it will be like, I think we get caught up in fear or worried about being alone.
09:18And then you make choices that are not great choices instead of just like trusting it's all
09:24going to work out. And then you don't have to chase anything. All right, Paula, I do not want to let you
09:29go, but we're going to give you 10 seconds to promote anything you want. Ready? Go. Finding faith
09:34is going to take you on a journey through your heart and soul. It's going to entertain you. It's going to
09:40thrill you. It's also going to make you look deep inside your heart and you're going to leave feeling
09:44inspired and enlightened. Paula, thank you so much for dropping by today. Thank you so much, McCauley.
09:52I really appreciate it.
