Tobin and Leroy discuss Tyreek Hill's camp injury and how low his over/under numbers are for the season. Same goes for Jaylen Waddle and Tua Tagovailoa. Is this all due to a lack of faith in Tua's health?
Transcript
00:00Dolphins are back on the practice field.
00:02Tyreek Hill's not practicing today.
00:03Undisclosed injury.
00:05Whee!
00:09You know what?
00:11Let's put all our cards on the table.
00:15And Vlad, you're shaking your head like I'm thinking right here.
00:20With all the stuff that has gone on in the last couple years with Tyreek Hill.
00:30Even if this is an honest situation, right?
00:38Do you believe it?
00:40You see what I'm saying?
00:41So you're thinking that Tyreek Hill's out for hurt feelings?
00:44Why is his situation and his mispractices can't be like, we're going to give him a break.
00:53It's always some undisclosed personal or whatever.
00:59It almost sounds like, and I'm not saying this to be accurate or saying this to be,
01:05but it almost sounds like they're maybe giving him some excuses to mispractice.
01:12Which means we're in the same boat we were last year?
01:17I'm just, I mean, why as an outsider looking in, wouldn't we make that assumption?
01:24Yeah, nothing can be normal with him.
01:25I get you.
01:26Right.
01:27No, I get you.
01:28It could be just an honest, ooh, I tweaked it and I want to, you know,
01:32you know, like there comes a time when you get banged up a little bit in camp
01:36that you're trying to be healthy for the start of the season.
01:40And you're not trying to fight through it like you would during the regular season.
01:44I get that.
01:45But, but, he just had an excuse absence for, and they just shrugged it off as,
01:56hey, I had to drop my kids off.
01:58Right?
02:00So, like, are we getting better with this or are we just finding kind of acceptable explanations?
02:11I don't think he had an excuse absence to mispractice.
02:13He just, he, he was, he was late, which has become a, a thing is like, oh, he's late for stretch.
02:20And then, but now we're taking attendance is, is Tyreek Hill there for stretch?
02:24Which, I got to be honest with you.
02:26I, I think all of this stuff, I don't, I, Tyreek Hill is going to be Tyreek Hill.
02:31You know?
02:32And I, and I, and I understand that.
02:34But, but don't tell us that there's some things you need to work on and be better at.
02:42And then we hear some stories that would kind of lend us along the lines of, sounds like the same stuff.
02:51Well, it is the same.
02:52That's all I'm saying.
02:53But that's, that's the thing is like, everybody has to just get through their mind.
02:56It is the same stuff.
02:58Like he's saying the other day, I'm taking notes for the first time.
03:01I'm like, okay, cool.
03:02All right.
03:02Good for you, dude.
03:04Notes?
03:04I wasn't, you know what?
03:05I, I wasn't a big note taker, but I watched film.
03:13Right.
03:13And so, um, I'm one of those people that you can't rely on a piece of paper during the game.
03:21So there's certain things that I pick up on.
03:25I tried to pick up on through the process of learning it because, you know, you don't just have practice.
03:31You have meetings, you have walkthrough, then meetings, then practice.
03:38And so when you go through all those steps, writing it on a piece of paper, ain't going to help you on the football field.
03:44And it's all usually in the context of your, um, your playbook.
03:54So very rarely, you're going to just have this new play.
03:57It's all going to be a slight deviation from your main plays.
04:02So it's really not that, that hard unless, you know, there's probably certain situations and then you have the playbook.
04:10So you can jot notes, like maybe on the playbook, you know, against this, if you make some changes during the week.
04:17But other than that, taking notes.
04:20Just like good.
04:21Are you still the fastest thing on the planet?
04:22Like we're good.
04:23I mean, you know, it is, I think he's going to be, I think he's going to be okay.
04:27Notes, no notes.
04:28I think here's how I look at this.
04:31He keeps saying, like, I didn't really know the offense and he had two record breaking seasons.
04:34So like, I'm like, I'm always sitting here and I'm like, so if you take the notes, you're going to break the record by even more.
04:41Like, I, like, I'm pretty sure Tyreek Hill, if he's been doing this with no notes and no real concept of the offense, then I don't know how much notes are going to make a difference.
04:52I think he's done pretty good on his production.
04:54Can I just say this?
04:56Sometimes as athletes, we say the things that sound good, but aren't accurate.
05:06And that's okay.
05:07Because people want to hear stuff, right?
05:11But if you think, and I want everybody to pay attention to this.
05:17If you think that the reason why Tyreek is going to have a good year is because he took notes and he was more familiar with the offense.
05:31It's 31.
05:32Yeah, like I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not buying.
05:35I've told you the situations where I was terrified on a football field.
05:39Um, and that was because I was with the team for three days.
05:45If I, if I had heard that from a young player, right?
05:50Exactly.
05:51Okay.
05:52You know what?
05:53Maturing a little bit.
05:54Think about this.
05:55Every adjustment you make on a route, right?
05:59It's pretty standard.
06:01So if you have a five route against cover two, which is a comeback, then basically you're going to convert that to a go because they want to try to hit that honey spot.
06:14Right.
06:15And that, that's standard, that's standard stuff.
06:20So I don't, I don't know for a young guy, a young guy might not know that he might have to jot some notes, right?
06:27This converts, this route converts to this and, and it's kind of that thing for a veteran.
06:32You could probably go besides the terminology, right?
06:36The same basic concepts in football apply to every team, whether you're a man block or a zone block team, um, whether, how do you, how do you run routes?
06:51All the conversions for routes are basically the same.
06:56So, um, I don't know.
06:58I just think we, we want guys to talk, right?
07:03We want guys to talk so much and they want to give, you know, make it, they want you to feel good about the situation that sometimes, you know, they may tell some whoppers.
07:15Especially him.
07:16Yeah, of course.
07:17Especially him.
07:18Of course, but, but I'm not like, again, we've already determined what's going to make this offense more potent.
07:26Right.
07:27Well, anyway, uh, according to reports, he is not a practice because of an undisclosed injury.
07:33Barry Jackson writes, it's not yet known how long he'd be out.
07:35All parties declined to say the severity.
07:38So there you go.
07:40Tyreek Hill, not at practice today.
