Was the pot stirred? Tua Tagovailoa is asked about his relationship with Tyreek Hill... What does this all mean to us? What really is going on between the two?
Transcript
00:00The Dolphins had a walk-through practice today.
00:03No Tyreek Hill.
00:04No Devon Achan.
00:06Devon Achan with the calf, dude.
00:07I'm nervous.
00:08I don't like that.
00:09Yes.
00:10We've seen.
00:11But the problem is that in camp, you don't know what level it is.
00:17You don't know if it's just a little soreness.
00:19But I hate.
00:21I never felt this way before.
00:23But ever since calf injury directly affiliated with the old Achilles tear,
00:31I've been nervous.
00:32Every time somebody says, oh, calf injury.
00:36Tyreek Hill still missing practice.
00:39Is he banged up?
00:41Is he legitimately banged up?
00:43You think it's a little make-up stink?
00:45They do camp stuff.
00:47Did you guys see Saturday?
00:50Yeah.
00:50With Cuno.
00:51Yeah.
00:52Did you hear that?
00:52We talked about that.
00:54We talked about it on the-
00:55You thought it was a little weird, right?
00:57Absolutely weird.
00:57Because the answer was weird.
00:59Okay, so-
01:00The answer was weird.
01:00Tua was asked.
01:01Go ahead, Vlad.
01:02You can explain it.
01:02But he was talking about Tyreek.
01:04Cuno asked him about how's the relationship with him and Tyreek.
01:07And then he's like, yeah, me and Tyreek, we're two different guys.
01:10We don't-
01:10You know, pretty much we don't have the same interest or type-
01:15Same sort of interest.
01:17So we don't really hang out like that.
01:19But it's-
01:19And it's like-
01:20But we're working on it.
01:21And it's like, wait a minute.
01:22It's been four years.
01:23You've been together.
01:24You don't have to-
01:25You don't have to-
01:26Go ahead.
01:26This is the quote.
01:27He said, just got to keep the conversations going, hang out a little more.
01:31He has a different personality than I have.
01:33So just finding that balance in between, it's continuing to keep those conversations going.
01:38It's been four years, man.
01:39Let me break it down.
01:40Let me break it down for you.
01:42There's people on the team that are like this.
01:48I have guys that I play with that I was cool with until they said, hey, you want to go hang out?
01:55Absolutely not.
01:56Because you ain't about that life they into.
01:59Because they wanted to go snorkeling?
02:02Yeah, they wanted to snorkel, all right.
02:05But I'm just saying.
02:07So-
02:08You didn't want that evil on you, Ricky Bobby.
02:09To say that when he says we have different interests, it's like the things that Tyreek does and how he does things is different than Tua.
02:16Oh, he handles it.
02:17And think about this.
02:19Tua cannot ever, ever get caught up in one of them Tyreek situations, hanging out with Tyreek.
02:28Oh, that's-
02:29Yeah, I guess.
02:29You see what I'm saying?
02:30So it doesn't mean that they're not cool.
02:33Right.
02:34It just means that they, like, and he tried to explain that when saying, listen, you got 60 guys hanging around.
02:44You're cool with all of them.
02:46Some guys you're cooler with than others.
02:48That's normal.
02:50It's just how he explained it made it sound like there's a problem.
02:54I don't even think they would-
02:55I don't even think-
02:57Some of these guys answer questions that-
02:59They answer them in a way that makes it more difficult.
03:02You've known this game, but this is your fourth season with this person.
03:06Right.
03:06If you never hung out with them the previous three years, they don't need to know that.
03:11So therefore, what's the question?
03:13What do you really ask?
03:14That's what I'm saying.
03:15He's trying to be too honest.
03:17No, Tua's got that about him.
03:19He can't help himself sometimes.
03:20If there's not an issue on the field-
03:22Right.
03:23If there's an issue off the field, it's trying to bring everybody together in that locker room so all 53 players got the same mission.
03:31But guess what?
03:31Once that game is over, all 53 players don't have to hang out with each other.
03:36They just got to hang out with each other when they're on the field, when they're in the locker room, and they're practicing.
03:43But other than that, that's it.
03:44So the question wasn't, hey, are you guys hanging out after work?
03:48You know, that type of question.
03:50It was just, what's your relationship?
03:51He answered it weird.
03:52But here's what the difference-
03:54Yeah, that's it.
03:54No, no, no.
03:55But the difference here is we have a situation where Tyreek Hill is very clearly trying to mend fences because he upset people last year by the way last year ended.
04:04Okay, but here's the difference.
04:05But here's the difference.
04:07You can be sorry and apologetic, but you're still at the other person's pace that you offended.
04:15Yeah.
04:16And so, like, without trying to do that, maybe they all, maybe Tua's like, you know what?
04:24He's apologized before.
04:26I'm going to ride this one out a little bit, you know, to see if he's being sincere.
04:30And, like, it's nothing my issue with all of them.
04:37I want to see them get some working together before the season starts.
04:41Because guess what?
04:44You know what makes friends?
04:47Winning.
04:48Yeah.
04:48Good football.
04:50I know I've been in fistfights with guys that I hugged after we won.
04:54Right?
04:55That's the nature of it.
04:57So, you're not playing football.
05:00You're not even practicing together.
05:02To now ask a quarterback about a wide receiver who you already got problems with and then you're not practicing?
05:10It's a tough spot.
05:12And Tua tried to be honest about it.
05:14Well, that's, but again, and I appreciate his honesty because you always appreciate honesty in the media.
05:20But I also do know, you know, like, there is a damage control element to it.
05:24And it feels like sometimes Tua finds himself in positions where, like, I can't lie about this.
05:31Right.
05:31I can't.
05:31It's not in me.
05:32It's not in me to just no sell it and move on.
05:35Because you could have just, he easily could have just told Mike.
05:38He could have been like, we're all good, baby.
05:40We're rolling along.
05:41But he's like, eh.
05:42Yeah, but he tried to, like, like, here.
05:45He tried to break down the process of it all.
05:47Can I just tell you why you can't say we're all good?
05:50You can't say we're all good for this reason.
05:53Because of the other guys in the locker room, they might have more of a problem of what he did than you did.
06:02And you have to respect that.
06:05And so that's why you kind of go about it in a way of, hey, Tyreek has to, you know, do some things and make it right.
06:13And we're good.
06:14And we're working at it.
06:15And we're doing all we can to get us where we need to be, you know, but we're not there yet.
06:21And that's fine.
06:22But the problem is, part of the reason why coach speak and quarterback speak has been invented is because people don't like honesty.
06:35Right?
06:36They don't know what to do with honesty.
06:38They don't know what to do with it.
06:39They make it some big thing when, you know what?
06:42Just imagine you being in a situation like that and somebody trying to make good with you.
06:48And you say, yeah, we're working on it, but we ain't there yet.
06:52That's no big deal.
06:54That's life.
06:55We're making a bigger deal about it than it is.
06:57It don't mean they can't play together.
06:58It's not a big deal now.
06:59And I've said this with the whole Tyreek Hill thing.
07:01Nothing is a big deal right now.
07:03It's a big deal.
07:03Like you said, winning heels all.
07:05It's a big deal if they don't win, because then it becomes more of a thing.
07:10That's why it's a big deal.
07:12It's because it's in a very fragile state.
07:14Let me tell you what I do, and this is how you feed into it, right?
07:20Anytime we played a team with a disgruntled wide receiver,
07:26because they are the first ones to get in their feelings, right,
07:30if they don't get the ball.
07:31Because the media will run to them right after the game, win or lose,
07:35if you only got two catches and you're supposed to be the stud receiver,
07:39the number one, right?
07:41If I'm on another team, you know what the first thing I do is?
07:44Let's take Tyreek out no matter what and see what his frustration level is
07:50because we can make this thing implode from the inside out,
07:54and then we won't even have to guard him.
07:56And that's what you do.
07:58So we'll see how this works out.
08:03Not when things are going great.
08:05Not when he's catching eight passes for 130.
08:08We need catching one pass for 10.
08:10I'm going to tell you right now, that duo,
08:11they better burn those hammies of Xavier and Howard,
08:13because if Xavier and Howard, if he shuts your ass down or he gets a pick,
08:16I'm going to be furious.
08:18I am going to be furious if that happens.
08:21Is week one a must-win game?
08:23It's a don't lose.
08:24Oh, it's a don't lose.
08:24It's a don't lose.
08:25I'm glad you asked, though.
08:28What?
08:30I just did that to bother you.
08:31Yeah, he just did that to bother you.
08:33He did that to mess.
08:35I am glad you asked, though, Vlad.
08:36But no, it's not a must-win, but it is a don't lose.
08:39Have you done the schedule yet with the-
08:42You want me to group them together?
08:44I will have to put that together this week.
08:46Do that for me Thursday when I'm back.
08:48In.
08:48You got it, buddy.
08:49I will categorize every game for you if you want me to do that.
08:52I want you to do that.
08:53I will do that.
08:53And by the way, ladies and gentlemen, he does.
08:57We should say-
08:58No, I'm good.
08:58I'm good.
08:59Mike Cugno is being accused of Cap for Life of stirring it up.
09:02Yeah, he's stirring it up.
09:03He didn't stir it up.
09:04He's an instigator.
09:04How is Mike Cugno an instigator?
09:06Is there anybody who's less of an instigator than Mike Cugno?
09:08He's a very pleasant man.
09:09I just think that when you hear guys talk every day, you tend to read into what they say
09:20a little bit more than you would if- I don't think that's a big deal.
09:26That's relationships.
09:27Like, dude, we work in a building that sometimes has 30 people in it.
09:32I want to-
09:32We don't get along with everybody.
09:33You think-
09:34We got to work together.
09:35You think Steven Ross is going to be in the booth this weekend?
09:38Usually does.
09:39He doesn't do any media anymore, but he does usually do that one little sit-in for like-
09:43Or they send a representative.
09:44They might send a-
09:46You better not send me Garfinkel.
09:48Why not?
09:48Nah.
09:49You send me Steven Ross or nobody.
09:50You know who they're going to send.
09:51He usually does.
09:52He does one little sit-in.
09:54I know who they're not going to send.
09:54Who, 13?
09:56Chris Gritt.
09:57Oh, no way.
09:58They probably have Dan talk.
10:00No way, dude.
10:01No, I think Steven Ross is going to pop into that booth.
10:04You got to talk to Bo Camper and Steve Goldstein.
10:06I tell you what, not for nothing, right, that if they don't win, it won't be for lack
10:17of trying, right?
10:19That guy's throwing more money into this organization, the stadium, the area, the team, than a lot
10:27of owners would, right?
10:31But, I don't know.
10:36I don't know if he comes.
10:38I don't know if he talks.
10:39I think they send somebody.
10:40We'll see.
10:41I don't know if he comes.
10:41You think he's going to pass.
10:45What?
