00:00Now, Darwin Nunes' future at Liverpool remains uncertain
00:06as he goes into a defining stage under Arnie Schlott.
00:10After a mixed campaign last season,
00:12the Uruguayan will need to convince the Dutchman
00:15he can be reliable in a focal point in attack.
00:19Nunes' explosive pace and relentless energy
00:21have always made him a handful for defenders,
00:25but questions remain over his consistency in front of goal.
00:28A Schlott, known for demanding tactical discipline and sharp finishing,
00:33may expect more refinement than the 26-year-old has shown so far.
00:39Liverpool haven't rushed into replacing him or selling him,
00:43but the squad's evolving shape and the growing influence of younger attackers
00:47means Nunes is under pressure.
00:50There's no shortage of interest if he were to be made available.
00:54We spoke to Liverpool world reporter Will Rooney
00:57for a deeper road on Nunes' situation and what comes next at Anfield.
01:03Yeah, I mean, in terms of the transfer strategy,
01:09it seems like a really interesting and exciting time for Liverpool fans.
01:13We mentioned how Manchester City and Chelsea
01:16sort of have constantly flexed their stuff,
01:19spending hundreds of millions every summer.
01:21Liverpool's sort of gone under the radar
01:22because they had that quality of squad signed and developed under Jurgen Klopp.
01:26And now it seems like it's maybe a bit of a start of a new era with this new strategy,
01:31you know, break your record straight away in slots per summer
01:35and then make inquiries like this.
01:37It's certainly an exciting time for the Reds fans.
01:40Yeah, well, Jürgen Klopp called at Liverpool 2.0 after that disappointing 22-23 season
01:47when Liverpool missed out on the Champions League.
01:49He obviously went and replenished the midfield that summer,
01:52bringing four in, three were very much for the future as well as the present.
01:59And Liverpool didn't make too many signs last summer
02:01because Arna Slott was having a look at the squad,
02:05seeing what he needed.
02:07And, yeah, that gives Liverpool the financial capacity
02:10to go out and really spend this summer,
02:13obviously, winning the Premier League.
02:14It's helped being back in the Champions League for revenue, etc.
02:18Liverpool got no issues with PSI.
02:20I mean, you look at some of the other players who are linked,
02:22you know, Rodrigo or Real Madrid.
02:23It's another one who, depending on maybe what happens with Luis Diaz,
02:27if Liverpool go and get in, that would be another sign
02:30who you would rate as near on world-class.
02:34I would think Rodrigo has been that excellent for Real Madrid.
02:38He's just fallen out of favour a little bit there
02:40and he could make a real impact if he was to come in.
02:43And if you look at the Premier League next season,
02:46you would have to see Liverpool are right up there
02:48as the favourites to go and defend the title as well.
02:51Now, I think maybe they do need to offload a couple of players,
02:54but, look, Liverpool fans are very happy
02:56with what's been happening in the transfer market so far.
03:00Yeah, I mean, you mentioned Darwin Nunez there before.
03:03Obviously, he scored in the Preston game as well.
03:06Paid a lovely tribute to Diego Jota with his celebration.
03:10I mean, he's clearly got a great relationship with Liverpool supporters
03:14and we've mentioned before the moments that he had
03:16over the last couple of seasons.
03:18You know, those late wins at Newcastle, Brentford.
03:22You know, huge moments that really decided where things were going
03:25in terms of Liverpool's title charge.
03:26But we still don't really know the situation with what's going on
03:30in terms of his Liverpool future.
03:32What's the sort of latest you can tell us on that?
03:34I think Liverpool, they'll have a price set for Darwin Nunez
03:39because his playability, you know, everyone's seen it.
03:45Maybe they haven't seen it enough consistently,
03:48but he's a player who can run them off
03:49and that's why Liverpool splashed out all that money they did
03:52from Benfica three years ago.
03:54It just hasn't quite worked out.
03:57They'll want to get the majority of that transfer feedback.
03:59I mean, if you look at it from, say, a PSR perspective,
04:03the amortisation, Liverpool won't need to recruit everything
04:07they paid for Darwin Nunez, but they'd like to get as close
04:10to that as possible because he's still only 25.
04:13So, as a striker, he's probably still a couple of years
04:17maybe below his peak.
04:19I think strikers maybe are at the best maybe 27 to 32.
04:22Fair play to him, you know, and Sloss criticised him
04:27after that Aston Villa game, I think, that bad miss last season.
04:31So, I don't think anyone would be surprised
04:34if Darwin Nunez leaves the club.
04:36Absolutely not.
04:39And a lot of that of Interpan will dictate
04:41what sort of striker they'll probably go and get.
04:43So, let's see.
