00:00Rosie the cheetah cub has begun settling into life alongside her new best friend, a puppy
00:04named Ziggy. The cheetah cub was born at Taronga Western Plains Zoo early in 2025 and has had
00:11to be mostly hand raised by keepers after spending months in intensive care at the zoo's wildlife
00:16hospital. Rosie and Ziggy were introduced to each other when the pair were just over two months old.
00:22At first, Ziggy the pup was a little too boisterous for the newborn cub,
00:26but keepers kept initiating the connection to help Rosie adapt. Cheetah siblings usually play chase,
00:32pounce and stalk each other but since Rosie has no siblings she needed another playmate to help her
00:37reach her developmental milestones. As Rosie ages she will also be given the opportunity to interact
00:43with other cubs of her own species since Ziggy will not always live at the zoo. Once Ziggy's
00:50responsibilities as a cheetah companion dog have been fulfilled he will be adopted by a member of
00:54the zoo family.
