00:17and said divorce is neither a lottery windfall nor a revenue generating exercise. The couple,

00:24married since 1987 with three adult children, co-founded a highly successful company where the

00:29wife played an active management role until 2018. The wife's original claim for maintenance was

00:35rejected in 2023 and she renewed it after the husband filed for divorce. Peters ruled the wife

00:41did not meet the means and needs threshold citing her steady income, earning capacity,

00:46and financial independence. The court noted that her claim focused on lost salary bonuses and EPF

00:52contributions, framing it as compensation for career-related losses rather than traditional

00:58spousal support. Peters stressed that the law does not preserve a luxurious lifestyle post-divorce

01:04but only prevents unjust hardship and the wife's claim lacked documentation of actual expenses

01:09or proof of financial dependency.
