00:00You know who he is, the crystal ball meteorologist Joe Lumberger.
00:03As we take a quick look at next week, Joe, it's going to be all about heat building in parts of the western U.S.
00:12We're going to see a shift to a pattern that our long-range team lead, Paul Paslock, was talking about for mid-summer.
00:20And that's a ridge over the Rockies, and what that's going to do is dictate how things shape across the rest of the country.
00:25One of those things is that it's going to be comfortable early in the northeast behind a cold front Sunday night, but the heat does build later in the week.
00:33There'll be rounds of thunderstorms to the south and west of there from the upper Midwest into the Ohio Valley,
00:39and it looks like the heat will build in the Plains and Rockies during the course of next week.
00:44Joe, let's talk about that upper high.
00:45It's a pattern next week that I mentioned that we haven't seen a whole lot of.
00:49Oftentimes this year, you get these oscillating upper high that goes back and forth,
00:54and we really haven't seen a lot of that.
00:58No, it's been trying to build here, but every time it's done so, something has come in from the Pacific that beat it down.
01:04And that's still kind of the case next week, but there's also a ridge that's out here in the southwest Atlantic,
01:09and that's going to be moving westward with time.
01:12And as it does, I think that that's going to help to build the heights here, build the heat,
01:16and that's going to be part of the problem.
01:18But I still mention that there's these disturbances coming through the northwest flow
01:21as they come over the top of this ridge and around the heat.
01:25This air mass in here is going to be brutal.
01:27We're talking temperatures 90 to near 100 with very high humidity.
01:31As that runs into this jet stream here, these disturbances, as Ari was just outlining,
01:36are going to produce some shower and thunderstorm activity on a frequent basis through most of next week,
01:41one after another.
01:42It's going to be hard to time them, but they can produce a tremendous amount of rain
01:45and a threat for severe weather from the Dakotas all the way into the Ohio Valley and the Appalachians.
01:50Typical steamy weather across the southern tier of states with risks of thunderstorms on continuous spaces.
01:56But in the northeast, you're going to see some relief early in the week
01:59before the heat tries to work its way into there starting on Wednesday.
02:03As we go forward, Joe, late July, early August,
02:06you think the big story is going to be the strength and location of that upper high?
02:11Absolutely. I think that that first piece of high that I was talking about moving this way
02:16eventually merges with this, and then this is just going to blossom.
02:19And as it does, the heat is really going to expand across the Rockies, out into the Plain States.
02:25There'll be opportunities for some cooling relief across the northeast.
02:28Anytime a front comes through, you'll have to worry about some severe weather or thunderstorm activity.
02:32But then you get a couple of days where it's very comfortable, and the heat tries to come back in.
02:36This is probably going to be part of the pattern right into the first part of August.
02:40What about beyond in the tropics, late July into August?
02:43These are the areas that you really have to be most concerned about.
02:46Here in the Gulf of America and the southwest Atlantic, something homegrown.
02:50If anything is going to develop in the tropics, those are the areas.
02:52Anything farther out in the tropics, I think it's going to be hard to come by,
02:55and they'd be forced way to the south through the Caribbean or forced back out to sea.
02:59So I think we're in pretty good shape as we finish out the month of July.
03:02So I think we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty good shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as we're in pretty shape as
