13 July - national forecast presented by Gregory Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello, good evening, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast.
00:04The heat wave is starting to come to an end as low pressure starts to move in from the Atlantic.
00:10We say goodbye to high pressure as this area of low pressure takes over,
00:14bringing bands of heavy rain, some thundery downpours,
00:17but also bringing in some fresher conditions across many parts.
00:21So it does take its time to reach southeastern parts, holding on to another hot day here on Monday.
00:26For this evening time, generally a quiet end to the day.
00:29Lots of clear spells around, low cloud across eastern counties, pulling back westwards again,
00:34thick enough for some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle at times.
00:37But during the early hours, this area of low pressure starts to edge in and make itself known.
00:41So we see bands of showery rain starting to move in across western parts.
00:46Some of this rain could be heavy at times, perhaps even the odd rumble of thunder is possible.
00:51But many places will be dry overnight with some clear spells.
00:54And another warm night to come.
00:55And for many of us, temperatures 17 to 19 Celsius.
00:59So an uncomfortable night for sleeping.
01:01But some fresher air is on the way.
01:03Low pressure moving in.
01:04So we see bands of rain pushing north and eastwards through the day on Monday.
01:07Some heavy downpours developing, particularly across northern England into southern Scotland,
01:12as we head through the latter part of the morning into the afternoon.
01:15Some rumbles of thunder, local disruption is possible.
01:18But plenty of sunny spells developing across the UK through the day.
01:22So it will still be bright, but it will be breezy.
01:25And that fresher air will make itself known across northern and western parts.
01:29Temperatures 18 to 22 Celsius generally.
01:32But across central and eastern parts of England in particular will hold on to the warm weather.
01:38Temperatures 25, 26 and then locally towards east Anglia, southeast England, 28 to 30 Celsius is still possible.
01:46But into the evening time, as the low pressure continues to move in,
01:50the hot air moves out of the way and is replaced by that fresher air for everyone.
01:54And then we'll see frequent showers moving in from the west, turning into longer spells of rain for some.
01:59Some rumbles of thunder still possible as we head overnight.
02:02Clearer skies across eastern Scotland down into eastern England, central southern England too.
02:06But even some showers still possible and turning quite breezy around the coasts.
02:10And then that fresher air, noticeable at night time, 13, 14 Celsius are much lower compared to what we've seen of recent nights.
02:19So Tuesday is going to be a fairly cool and unsettled day.
02:22Low pressure in charge, spells of rain pushing north and eastwards across the country.
02:27Some of this rain will be heavy at times, some tricky travelling conditions.
02:31But in between there will be some sunnier breaks that develop, perhaps across western areas by the afternoon.
02:36And northern Scotland fairing largely dry through the day with a scattering of showers.
02:41And breezy, particularly around the coasts and for most of us a much cooler feeling day.
02:46Temperatures 17 to 20, 21 Celsius, still 23 or 24 across the southeast.
02:53So generally around average for the time of year, but just feeling a little cooler than it has done.
02:58Bands of rain continue to clear out of the way on Tuesday.
03:01And then the rest of the week is mixed.
03:03We'll see some sunny spells, showers, some longer spells of rain possible too.
03:07But there is just then a trend upwards with the temperatures again, not quite as high compared to the weekend just gone.
03:14But still perhaps creeping back towards the high 20s, particularly across the southeast as we end the week.
