00:00Attorney at Low, Kareem Marcel, tells the TV6 Morning Edition,
00:04the PNM's legal team is compiling oral correspondence related to the mass firings.
00:10He questions how contractors can be dismissed when there was no CPEP board of directors in place
00:16to steer the ship or authorize such a sweeping decision.
00:21Marcel says they want to know who gave the direction to the chief executive officer to terminate
00:27and whether or not that person had such authority.
00:30So we have asked for certain things, including communications between,
00:34all communications between the chief executive officer and the line minister
00:38slash de facto prime minister, the Honorable Barry Barrett,
00:42to determine whether those instructions came from the line minister,
00:47whether it came from the minister in the ministry, the permanent secretary, the parliamentary secretary,
00:50all these things in order to get the evidence necessary.
00:55The government has stated that a new CPEP board will be appointed on Wednesday.
01:01However, Marcel says the administration has put the cart before the horse.
01:06It is clear that the minister and de facto prime minister is now trying to call what he should have done first.
01:15How do you not install a board of directors?
01:18The board of directors is who makes policy decisions as to who enters into contracts,
01:24how the CPEP company limited enters into contracts.
01:28They authorize who to terminate, who to amend, all these different things.
01:35Marcel also dismissed claims that CPEP contractors were raking in millions,
01:40stating that they were paid a flat rate of $20,000 per month.
01:45He accused the government of political victimization.
01:49It is clear to me that it was callous, it was vindictive,
01:52it was filled with hate and discrimination.
