00:00welcome back to marvel and mysteries my name is tracy thanks so much for joining me so the show
00:14marvel and mysteries is about the great and the small things that the lord does through our lives
00:19to bring justice to us and then matrix of justice.org is a resource platform that is has articles
00:26videos it'll have a shop and some other links that are just useful tools for you in your walk
00:33and today i wanted to talk about identity specifically the threat of known identity
00:38what does your life look like when you really know who you are in the lord like wouldn't you
00:44like to put the devil in the crosshairs instead of feeling like you're always in his
00:48no i don't know about you i know that i have experienced in my life um at times if you've
00:55ever heard someone speaking and it's almost like they cause an affront or an offense
00:59because they're outwardly confident in who they are and it wasn't necessarily what they said that
01:05was upsetting but it was more like how they said it or their body language as they did everything
01:11about them seems to give a visceral reaction in negative ways almost like they put off this electric
01:18charge of yuck and not only of yuck but sometimes it feels like being slimed if you've ever felt that
01:25way you are not alone and given some of these people are just arrogant they're full of haughtiness
01:32and they grew up thinking that they can do no wrong or that they do everything wrong both having a similar
01:40effect in their outward expression later on in life and those people are easily recognizable
01:46because they're sure to let you know just how marvelous they are in case you did not already
01:52realize that you were in the presence of their greatness and listen i am not talking about people
01:58who are somewhat insecure and working through attempts to speak about themselves in edifying ways
02:04instead of negative ones we all must start somewhere in speaking more empowering things to and over
02:10ourselves and one another and initially we don't believe in ourselves enough for the words to
02:16really sound legitimate to those hearing us speak so sometimes we are perceived incorrectly when all we
02:23are trying to do is not tear ourselves to pieces for once but what about the people who are not baptized
02:30in arrogance who simply know themselves and are unapologetic about it they just go about their lives
02:38being who god designed them to be shocker i know unashamed making no excuse for it nor dumbing down who
02:45they are on any level whatsoever to appease anyone else those people through no fault of their own
02:52also can ruffle the feathers of others but for varied reasons they have a fairly good idea of how they're wired
03:00by god they understand their function and know it so well that they don't apologize for it because hey
03:06it was his idea in the first place they don't dilute who they are simply because others around them
03:13don't know themselves quite yet where many fall into the pitfalls of pride and even false pride these
03:19folks have overcome that and they are fairly balanced and even keeled people and because others are not
03:26secure in who they are they can have a visceral reaction to those who do and this stems from years of
03:33being pummeled by religious thinking that does not take into account our new nature in the lord and
03:39leaves us as orphans rather than sons think about it this way for a moment many churches continue to
03:49refer to everyone as sinners and many people will even say i'm just a sinner saved by grace well yes
03:54that's true however when we agree that jesus is lord over our lives our nature changes to a saint
04:02colossians 1 13 and 14 says for he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into
04:10the kingdom of the son he loves in whom we have redemption the forgiveness of sins and yes saints can
04:18still mess up in sin just see 1 john 1 9 and 10 but sinning is not truly in our nature any longer
04:26however we still can miss the mark and ephesians 2 10 says for we are god's handiwork created in christ
04:34jesus to do good works which god prepared in advance for us to do the point is we are so busy inspecting
04:42our sin nature and focusing on all the ways in which we fail that we do not embrace how we are made in
04:48god's image and likeness to have love discipline and self-control from him to live our lives and guard
04:55our actions jesus christ is the way so if we are in him we will walk in his ways and he will direct our
05:04paths if we will only yield ourselves to him that ongoing transformation helps us to not sin because
05:15holy spirit lives in us and is teaching us as we go in addition to repeatedly thinking of ourselves as
05:23sinners we also tend to exclude the beautiful ingenuity he created in us that is how we are each
05:31gifted and wired by god so that every one of us can supply the body of christ the best and this isn't
05:38about celebrating ourselves and one another for the sake of some self-seeking egoism and a boastful heart
05:45posture inwardly or outwardly no no no this is about the reality that every joint supplies according
05:52to ephesians 4 16 we are all joints and members of his body thus every one of us is a supplier
06:01of his kingdom ways his heart and as a citizen of heaven a protectee of his grace he gave his life
06:11to die for us willingly and that makes us wanted and loved and he disciplines those he loves
06:18following your prepaid adoption back to the father he is going to discipline you he wants you to grow
06:27to be a mature son paul writes in ephesians chapter 4 about the riches of his glorious inheritance in
06:35the saints please hear me correctly though the gospel is all about him and the work he did for us
06:41the god who died for his people that makes us more than just a little bit more than valuable to him
06:49but worth the blood of jesus christ because of the love he has for us when we first come into the
06:56kingdom we do spend time on ourselves simply because we are learning then we focus outwardly
07:03on others as we are our brother's keepers and we grow up in the kingdom family to love and serve the
07:09lord and one another to say it another way our relationship with the lord is first and we are like
07:18cars getting our gas tanks filled by him and then we distribute that gas to others
07:23so the confident ones who just love to toot their own car horns with bravado and they they bring
07:31offense because it's likened to bragging which annoys people in a in a 2014 research that was
07:38entitled you call it quote self-exuberance end quote i call it bragging miscalibrated predictions
07:45of emotional responses to self-promotion posited the following thesis which sums up the issue quite
07:52well people engage in self-promotional behavior because they want others to hold favorable images
07:59of them self-promotion however entails a trade-off between conveying one's positive attributes and being
08:07seen as bragging we propose that people get this trade-off wrong because they erroneously project
08:15their own feelings onto their interaction partners as a consequence people overestimate the extent to
08:22which recipients of their self-promotion will feel proud of and happy for them and underestimate the
08:30extent to which recipients will feel annoyed experiment number one and two in the study because people
08:37tend to self-promote excessively when trying to make a favorable impression on others such efforts
08:44often backfire causing targets of the self-promotion to view the self-promoter as less likable and as a
08:52braggart whoo so how do we address the ones who are not bragging about themselves nor participating in
09:00self-aggrandizement yet are confident in who they are and still annoy us they are not braggadocio and that
09:11is an area we all can grow in those people know who they truly are and their confidence and their identity
09:19annoys us but why why do they think they are so special do they even think they are or is that just
09:27our reaction to them the partial answer to these questions is that they typically do not surmise
09:34that they are so special they just know they are a human being and not a human doing they also know who
09:41they are not and that gives them the freedom to be who they are they are comfortable in their own skin
09:48and understand that to be anyone else they are not is an ordeal the prophet jeremiah said let the one
09:57who boasts boast in the lord that means boast of the lord and that is what these folks's lives do
10:04because they are living sacrifices before everyone living epistles before others jesus said this is in
10:12luke 7 verse 23 blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me stumble is the word that
10:20to translators use for the greek word scandalizo which means to offend the term effective presence
10:30is a term or theory that suggests people are impacted by the emotions exerted by others whether that is
10:38positive or negative to the recipient jesus has that effective presence not by virtue of the emotions
10:46he exerts but who he is he is the son of god he's truth truth is a person truth will set you free and
10:53oftentimes firstly it will tick you off and that is the point of pain wherein we have a choice to admit
10:59that we are wrong and bow to the truth or attempt to embrace the offense and double down on it in
11:06stubbornness when i read through the book of acts i understand stephen's frustration in acts chapter 7
11:14for that whole speech just start in verse 1 and go on it but the theater goers will probably agree
11:19with me because it's one of the best non-fiction monologues ever spoken you stiff-necked people your
11:27hearts and ears are still uncircumcised you are just like your ancestors you always resist the holy
11:33spirit was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute they even killed those who predicted
11:39the coming of the righteous one and now you have betrayed and murdered him you who have received the
11:46law that was given through angels but have not obeyed it yeah the truth hurts so what did the religious
11:54experts of the time do when stephen finished saying this well they absolutely went bonkers in fury dragged
12:00stephen outside of the city and stoned him he spoke the truth and they became so offended and convicted
12:07they killed him for it and stephen forgave them as they were stoning him he cried out lord do not hold
12:13this sin against them and remember jesus did the same thing on the cross forgive them lord for they know not
12:18what they do and this is a huge key when someone hurts you forgive immediately and give the enemy no place
12:26to work with the pharisees and the sanhedrin took offense at jesus multiple times they had devised a
12:34systematic oral tradition to interpret god's law and avoid breaking it but they considered their man-made
12:41laws to be on par with scriptures when jesus came on the scene to confront all that their religion had
12:49turned them into he was not liked at all he told his disciples this is john 15 18 if the world hates
12:56you keep in mind it hated me first they hated jesus so badly that they wanted to kill him numerous times
13:04his own hometown wanted to throw him off a cliff when he said that no prophet is without honor except
13:10in his hometown after jesus healed the invalid at the healing pool he was caught carrying his mat and he
13:17informed the pharisees that this jesus person had told him to carry it and then the clincher jesus
13:23raised lazarus from the dead which sent the pharisees into a real tizzy for the exception of
13:29caiaphas who had prophesied that jesus would die for the jewish nation and not only for that nation but
13:35also for the scattered children of god to bring them together and make them one so from that day on
13:42they plotted to take his life you can read all that john 11 45 to 53 they hated him for being himself
13:50so the thing that you can remember is it's not about you the apostle paul wrote something compelling
13:58to the philippians about jesus's heart posture and purpose on earth in philippians 2 3 through 11.
14:05this is right after he tells the philippians not to be selfish and not to put on airs don't be selfish
14:13don't try to impress others be humble thinking of others as better than yourselves don't look out
14:20only for your own interests but take an interest in others too you must have the same attitude that
14:28christ jesus had though he was god he did not think of equality with god as something to cling to
14:36instead he gave up his divine privileges he took the humble position of a slave
14:42and was born as a human being
14:48when he appeared in human form he humbled himself in obedience to god and died a criminal's death on a cross
14:56therefore god elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names
15:04that at the name of jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and
15:08every tongue declare that jesus christ is lord to the glory of god the father
15:15my my my i have heard one teacher say jesus came as we were so we could become who he is like boom
15:23that sums it up doesn't it we were made in his image and likeness and the fall happened and we
15:29became unrecognizable then jesus came and stripped off all deity to be like us and walk life out without
15:36sin and fulfilled all righteousness and communion with the lord took up the cross and died for all of us
15:42even while we were yet sinners then he doubled down on the butt kicking of evil and descended to the dead
15:50where he set captives free then was raised by holy spirit to life preached to his disciples got taken
15:57up to heaven where he was seated at the right hand of god and poured out his own life blood on the
16:02mercy seat then holy spirit was poured out on all flesh all those comic book book type movies have zero
16:11on jesus christ like not even close but i digress the point is jesus did not have to put on heirs of any
16:22sort and he came here without all of his supernatural extras and focused on his relationship with the
16:29father and then went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil his presence changed
16:35things and drew some people to him as the christ and others were just annoyed offended got jealous or
16:42smeared him and the gospel of john records seven statements that jesus made known as the i am
16:48statements so jesus said i am the bread of life i am the light of the world i am the door i am the good
16:56shepherd i am the resurrection and the life i am the way and the truth and the life and i am the true vine
17:05that is quite the identity right and we are made in his image and likeness and though we are not god we
17:12were created to be just like him and if we are busy letting him transform us how irritated do we become
17:21to everything that isn't like him how irritating do we become to others as well but we all with unveiled
17:29face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the lord are transformed into the same image from glory to
17:36glory even as from the lord the spirit in exodus 3 14 god tells moses to go tell the israelites i am
17:49who i am this is what you are to say to the israelites i am has sent me to you
17:54so there is no mistaking who moses is referring to jesus made these i am statements clearly
18:01identifying himself as god which also ticked off the pharisees he fed the hungry he expressed his
18:08very nature to the people and they marveled at the words they heard because they were laden with great
18:13power authority and understanding to the hungry ones it was life in john 6 63 jesus said the words i have
18:22spoken to you they are full of spirit and life to others all they heard through a twisted ear was
18:31that jesus was higher than they were in authority and understanding would make them look bad and that
18:38he put himself on par with god and said god is his father and that just made them abhor him they did not
18:46know their identity in the lord and thus his identity absolutely made every fox inside them bite one
18:52another's tails and scream comparison can be the entrance of a very real killer if valued incorrectly
19:01or if contrasting two things is viewed as a negative what is interesting is that the word comparison in
19:09its original sense and use means to equal match resemblance similarity the modern day usage of this word
19:17generally is used with negative implications a weighing of things side by side only to declare one of them
19:25is greater or less than the other contrast is to set an opposition with a view to show the differences to stand
19:32in opposition or contrast to set off each other by contrast in my opinion the spirit of murder is great
19:42friends with comparison leading to bad contrast jealousy and leads to both anger and self-sabotage
19:50the moment we start looking at another as better than ourselves we slowly start killing our own identity
19:58and the value that we have that how god designed us in the case of cain and abel in genesis 4 god favored
20:06the offering abel made but did not favor cain's god tells cain if you do what is right will you not be accepted
20:14but if you do not do what is right sin is crouching at your door its desire is to have you but you must rule
20:22over it cain had a choice and instead of doing what was right he lured his brother out into a field attacked
20:28and killed him we do not have the play by play but my non-academic eisegesis is that cain became mad
20:37because god favored abel and then compared himself to his brother sought to kill him
20:42and in that act then sabotaged his own future he forced the earth to drink abel's blood
20:50the lord had told him you look you're under a curse and you'll be driven from the land and you'll be a
20:56wanderer and when you work the land it's not going to respond it will not yield crops at all like
21:03yikes talk about a horrible chain reaction the very thing he was skilled at will not even happen when he
21:10tries that which he had that which he had sorry was taken away as a consequence of his actions
21:20how do we begin the process of an inner building up of who we are when we feel like cain how do we
21:30not run headlong in a metaphorical murder of ourselves or other people it is an exemplary idea
21:37to know who god is of course and who you are in him it helps to know that god is a rewarder of those
21:44who diligently seek him that he isn't a man that he should lie that he tempts no one and that he is
21:51love and that he wishes that none would perish but all would come into repentance and that his words
21:57were conveyed to people to be stewards and responsible managers of his kingdom here on earth
22:05earth and as for us we need to know that the following is true about those who follow jesus
22:11christ so here is a list of i am in christ statements to speak aloud and to receive into your hearing and
22:19understanding and remember what romans 10 17 says faith comes by hearing and hearing through the word of
22:26christ proclaim these scriptures to yourself and some might feel really hard to say at burst and that's
22:34because it needs to go into areas where you don't feel worthy or you feel condemned lord jesus give us
22:41a stomach pump of the death-laden things that we have said to ourselves and other people remember
22:48things you don't say with your physical tongue but you say them on the inside are still being said
22:55remember to be kind to yourself in your thoughts and here's just a few of these these scriptures so you
23:03can even repeat after me i am worth dying for that's john 3 16 i am saved by grace through faith
23:14ephesians 2 8 i am not an accident or a mistake psalm 139 15 and 16 i am a new creation
23:24second corinthians 5 17 i am made in the likeness of god genesis 5 1 i am fearfully and wonderfully made
23:37from psalm 139 i am a child of god romans 8 16 i am a dearly loved child of god who follows his example
23:49ephesians 5 1 i am a treasured possession exodus 19 5 the righteousness of god in christ jesus
23:59second corinthians 5 21 and that list goes on feel free to go to this blog the threat of known identity
24:08at matrix of justice dot org for the entire list of the i am statements this list is just for starters
24:17two receiving the work jesus has done for you and the continual transformation of who you are into
24:24being like him is such a worthwhile and valuable process and as you mature not to say at all that
24:31i've arrived by any stretch of the imagination who you are in him allows freedom of the expression of
24:38how he created you specifically the threat to the enemy's work is a person who cannot be offended and
24:45dragged off the battlefield in their offense pain and wounding and knows whose they are and won't
24:53listen to other voices that say otherwise and who made them to be precise precisely who they are
25:00and not listening to did god really say that it is really difficult to attack and bring down a person
25:08with a mindset on things above and not on the earthly plane with a mind of peace because it is stayed on
25:14the lord a citizen of heaven does not get easily tricked into bickering over identity skills gifting
25:21at least of all what god is doing for others especially when he favors someone right in front
25:26of everyone they rejoice we have to remember the lesson in the parable of the workers in the vineyard
25:32that when the master is going to pay them for their work everyone gets paid the exact same thing
25:37regardless of the time they spent working sir matthew 20 the master says don't i have the right to do
25:45what i want with my money are you envious because i am generous though god is generous and gives us what
25:54we need while working all things together for those who love the lord and are called according to his
26:00purpose he is conducting an exquisite massive orchestra and the thing is the horns can go ahead
26:08and just ignore the conductor if they want to because they have free will not to so as god conducts
26:15this orchestra that we are part of let's do our best to follow him in our portion of the score
26:21and let the violins do their thing while the drums do their thing and the end result is that all of
26:27us are needed for this great symphony and this great war for souls and the enemy needs you to be
26:33wounded on the battlefield so he can finish you off and get you to take others out for him
26:42he wants to hit you so hard just once that the wound never heals and perpetually takes you out of the
26:49battle anytime anyone else touches it and to make matters worse the christian army is the only army that
26:55regularly shoots itself and it isn't even accidental friendly fire a lot of times it's intentional and
27:02a house divided cannot stand known identity is a threat to every lie trick scandal gossip slander libel
27:10scheme method modus operandi wiles or scripture twisting poisonous teaching the enemy can throw at us
27:17body of christ we must grow up in this blog post has jesus offended you missionary and blogger forrest
27:28mcphail wrote the offensiveness of a message does not negate its truthfulness truth is often offensive
27:36the real issue is not whether a message gets under our skin but whether or not it is vital information we
27:43need we must humble ourselves before god and his truth to be forgiven and freed from sin and destruction
27:50jesus said to some rejecting him you refuse to come to me that you may have life friend don't allow your
27:58feelings or pride to hold on to offensive offenses in the message and walk away humble yourself and believe
28:06no god get to know you in him then remain in his fine i will leave you the portion of john 15 verses 1-17
28:20i am the true vine and my father is the gardener he cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit
28:26while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful
28:37apart from me you can do nothing if you do not remain in me you are like a branch that is thrown away
28:47and withers such branches are picked up thrown into the fire and burned if you remain in me and my words
28:59remain in you ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you this is to my father's glory that you
29:06bear much fruit showing yourselves to be my disciples as the father has loved me so have i loved you now
29:15remain in my love if you keep my commands you will remain in my love just as i have kept my father's
29:24commands and remain in his love i have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be
29:32complete my command is this love each other as i have loved you greater love has no one than this to lay
29:40down one's life for one's friends you are my friends if you do what i command i no longer call you
29:48servants because a servant does not know his master's business instead i have called you friends for
29:55everything that i learned from my father i have made known to you you did not choose me but i chose you
30:03and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit fruit that will last and so that whatever
30:09you ask in my name the father will give you this is my command love each other i'm gonna leave it there
30:20today but please also see the post you are not a cookie for resources on discovering who you are
30:28it is about being who he has created you to be for the body of christ you are a threat to all hell
30:37intended for people when you are being who god created you to be thanks so much for listening we'll catch you
30:47next time thanks so much
