00:00welcome to marvel and mysteries my name is tracy thank you so much for joining me today i wanted

00:15to talk about the parable of the weeds but from a different perspective a different metaphorical

00:20lens than maybe you've heard of in the past because i don't know about you but there are

00:27times when i feel like the field of my mind has been ripped to shreds by weeds and tears and every

00:34nasty thing that seems to come bubbling up and i stumbled upon something in my journey through the

00:41bible and i wanted to share that i know as a sincere believer in the lord like you guys are

00:47that when somebody comes up with something from the word that can save you time stress agony pain and

00:55all of that if it has some good wisdom in there it's awesome to share it so i wanted to just share

01:00what the lord showed me when i was in my travels and what i want to do first is start through the

01:06actual parable itself from matthew 13 and then what it meant in terms of what jesus was talking about

01:13and then what it actually can look like through this other lens so here we are matthew 13 i'm going

01:21to start in the back half of verse 24 the kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his

01:28field but while everyone was sleeping his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away

01:35when the wheat sprouted and formed heads then the weeds also appeared the owner's servants came to him

01:43and said sir didn't you sow good seed in the field where then did the weeds come from and he said an

01:50enemy did this and the servants asked him do you want us to go and pull them up no he answered because

01:59while you are pulling the weeds you uproot the wheat with them let both grow together until the harvest

02:07at that time i will tell the harvesters first collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be

02:13burned then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn when jesus broke this down to to the disciples

02:21later this is what he said the meaning of the parable was to them he answered the one who sowed

02:27the good seed is the son of man the field is the world and the good seed stands for the people of the

02:35kingdom the weeds are the people of the evil one and the enemy who sows them is the devil okay so we've

02:43got the the general parameters that jesus was laying forth in this parable so that's his meaning and just

02:50what i'm presenting is an idea of looking at this parable with the field being our mind instead of

02:59being the entire world so with that you have the idea of good seed and bad seed and both grow together

03:09and they both require different nutrients and water things like that and it can be hard to tell the

03:15difference initially because the greenery can look the same and anyone who gardens when you first do

03:21have those seedlings in the ground when they first sprout and they're growing up oftentimes they look

03:26very similar until the leaves form moreover so let's say you love the lord and you are sowing all

03:35the good seed that you can into yourself you're you're reading you're studying you have your time of

03:40worship and prayer with the lord adoration unto the lord so you are filling yourself filling your your

03:47brain your mind with the best that you can and while you sleep the enemy sows the seeds of tares or

03:55otherwise weeds um and he just goes on from there he just casts his evil seeds there and then he just

04:02keeps on trucking and you are left with those when you wake up in the morning and he knows he that

04:10you're the children of light so that's why he does it and in i just want to clarify that in matthew 13

04:15when it says that the men were sleeping it is referring to actual physical sleep and physical rest

04:22though for the purposes of this you could actually metaphorically think of sleep as not only rest at

04:30night time in the terms of having dreams but also having that kind of indifference that sometimes if

04:36you get worn out uh we're human sometimes that happens and we have all of this this well of energy

04:42that comes from the lord but then there are some times when you just feel like you're tapped out

04:46and sometimes you can almost be kind of indifferent to things and so in a in a matter of speaking kind

04:54of be kind of asleep so when this happens when the enemy has done this to us and he's cast that seed

05:00i mean you have been seeded and those seeds are going to try to fight uh for the nutrients and they're

05:07going to fight to be watered just as you have like the word of the lord that is working within you

05:12and uh so those bad seeds can can grow if we are giving into it and i wanted to give you an example

05:20of something that had happened to me just to give you an idea of how this can work and and maybe this

05:26will register with some of you or and if it's something else then by all means if you feel like

05:30this has been done uh share it with the others in the comments that way everyone can learn together

05:34but this has happened to me a few different times over the course of my life and it just has here

05:39recently too where i would wake up in the morning and it would be a waking kind of dream right as i am

05:47coming to first thing in the morning and the dream is almost the same a slightly different variances but

05:55pretty much the same and in those dreams there's always someone who is either telling me how much they

06:02hate me or it's like i am a fly on the wall and i'm overhearing their conversation about me and it's

06:09really horrible or they're posting something really horrible on social media or something like that

06:15and this is not something that i struggle with or that i think about or things like that because the

06:21the odd thing is that in all of these occurrences the person in the dream is someone that i don't

06:28there's there's no there's no beef so to speak with them and uh so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense

06:34but nevertheless it is a bunch of negativity that hits me and it's right as i'm waking up

06:40and then what often happens is that during the course of that day like this last time no matter

06:45where i was or what i was doing uh there was always someone there to have something really negative to

06:51say or to act as though they were irritated with me or that i would be left with that feeling of oh my

06:58gosh well i've just been rejected by this person or they think i'm x y or z you can fill in the blank but

07:03this is kind of how that had manifested for me and i thought oh this it's not good it's not healthy

07:09it's a good thing when you know when this is an example of seeding in this case it's like seeding

07:15in a dream but this does happen to so many people so that's just one of those ways so the wheat and

07:23the tares going back to the idea of your mind the wheat and the tares they all need a sunshine to grow

07:29they all need to be watered in nutrients so again you need to be careful about what ends up getting

07:36seeded that you're not watering those things and and there's a reason why this makes a lot more sense

07:42that i'll share in a moment but in the parable the farmer is very clear to the servants not to go out

07:48and try to pull up the weeds because the root system can be intertwined with the wheat so while he's

07:55trying to pull up the weeds people can be pulling up the good stuff instead and that's not good because

08:00the roots are entangled and so there are multiple reasons if you think on that why jesus actually

08:08would have spoken about wheat and tares in the bible specifically for that people at that time

08:15and that is because tares which are called darnles um it's a it's a it's a plant and when it grows

08:23it looks nearly identical to wheat and it's difficult to tell the difference when they get

08:31older when the plants mature then the wheat will start to kind of and you've seen it i'm sure in

08:37photographs like it will start to kind of curve whereas the darnel will tend to stand upright so

08:44it's like the fool's gold but of like the plant the plant arena and another thing to note about it and

08:52why this is so important to the people at the time specifically was that wheat of course we know

08:58is a nutritious thing but the darnel on the other hand is poisonous so you can end up with you know

09:05at a at a at the at the best maybe a really bitter bread if you ended up with with some of its grains

09:11mixed in and on the bad end of things you know death because you were poisoned by the stuff and when

09:19you look at them initially that everything kind of looks a little bit the same and then wheat has

09:23more of a brown kernel and uh the darnel actually has a black kernel and for for you nerds this is

09:31strong's g2215 zidzanion and it's actually referenced as like this black seed wheat is nutritious whereas

09:41the darnel again is poisonous so what do we do knowing that and why that's why jesus would have

09:51used that in that parable then how do we address that in terms of the field of our mind when you

09:57have things that are growing that are from the lord and then things that have been seeded by the enemy

10:02and are poisonous so do we rip those up and i'm just thinking that based on how our brains are structured

10:11you can't make a genuine parallel to say the root system of plants is the exact same thing as as the

10:19neural network of our mind it's similar but it's not quite the same thing but there is some truth to

10:27how you water and how you focus and how you tend to those things that are going on in your mind

10:33and i believe that this is part of the reason why paul's letter to the philippians is so powerful

10:40and why you hear the verse quoted along a lot of times that you are to focus on whatever is true

10:48and good and noble and right and praiseworthy and excellent to focus on these things because when you

10:55are focused on something and it's repetitive and it's so good like that your neurons when they fire

11:03together like that they wire together so many of you have heard about neural pathways and how that

11:09works that's another thing you could think of it is it is like a wheat field in your mind when you

11:15have been conditioned or maybe triggered to go from zero to really ticked off over the years of maybe

11:21abuse from other people and feeling like your voice has been stolen from all these years you could get

11:27really angry really fast because that neural pathway has been paved already you've dealt with that issue

11:35a multitude of times so the wheat stalks so to speak have been bent over they've been trodden

11:41down and you can go bam so fast because of that happening because the focus has been there and your

11:48neural pathways have been have been built up in that way so we do have the ability actually to rewire

11:55ourselves that's part of neuroplasticity of our mind the neural networks and how that how that works and

12:02our neurons are carrying chemical and electrical signals back and forth they help our our brain to

12:09communicate with um with itself with uh other organs in the body and so if our focus is on those good

12:18things what is noble good right praiseworthy those are the pathways that we're really going to be

12:23building up and you can kind of starve out the ones that are not but what the enemy will try to do

12:30is to seed you with those negative things and then bring about circumstances that kind of cause you

12:37to be the one to water it and you have to come into agreement with all of it but he's very clever about

12:44the way he goes about that and then kind of bringing those those sets of circumstances around you so we

12:50have to be careful and really guard our minds for the things that would be coming in so when those

12:57situations happen that try to get you to focus on those bad seeds recognize what's going on and do

13:07your very best to refuse those seeds let your little neurons not come into agreement and not fire

13:16now obviously at nighttime when you're sleeping that's a bit more difficult because if you're if you're just

13:22at rest you may not even notice that these things are taking place some people do some people

13:27your spirits are so sensitive that the moment that starts to happen you're up you're at it you're already

13:33saying nope i don't receive that i'm not gonna allow that to come into my being on any level whatsoever and

13:40you can fend it off but that's not always going to be the case especially if you're if you're very tired

13:45in your in your body you might not be able to so just be aware of that and then remember that when when it

13:53comes to seeds and and like the bad seeds is that a lot of these things can really masquerade as good

14:01things for us so a couple of examples fear can often masquerade as wisdom and so can doubt and unbelief

14:12those can also really masquerade as wisdom so sometimes people can dress that stuff up and the enemy

14:20certainly will try to after all he kind of has his his game of did god really say kill steal destroy

14:31it's the same thing he's just a very very good manipulator and he's very good at partial truths

14:39and taking a little spot in your life that maybe you're struggling with and you're praying through

14:44and then using that to exploit something else altogether to make sure that you stay off of the

14:50path that god has you on because he can't have that hub he can't have you standing up one day and

14:57ruining things for him and getting in the way so i hope that made some sense uh in terms of what kind

15:05of what i was gathering is looking at the mind and looking that as a field that can grow wheat or it can

15:13grow these horrible things that the enemy has done a drive-by seating and just dumped some really awful

15:18things in so recognize those negativity and the negative thoughts that come and take those thoughts

15:27captive to the obedience of christ so let's pray for a moment lord we give you the wheat field of our

15:34minds we give them to you and we know that we have the mind of christ and the enemy seeks to cast

15:42those wicked seeds in us lord and so we thank you god for crop failure to the enemy's seeds

15:51and teach us to take all of those thoughts captive to the obedience of christ and that we would focus

16:00on what is good true noble and praiseworthy that we would think on those things that we would be

16:07transformed by the renewing of our mind and in all things we would put on love we would put on christ

16:15and move forward accordingly that we would not be downtrodden and that we are the head and not the

16:22tail that we are first and not last and that we're chosen by you lord so help us to do that this week

16:29and every day in jesus name amen thank you so much for watching
