00:00hello there hello sue you're okay i am thank you so we're with sue halstead at crafty happenings
00:06this isn't her place but this is one of the locations where she does her lovely lino printing
00:12workshops what is lino printing so lino printing is the art of gouging a design out of a lino
00:20a piece of lino and then coating it in a thin film of ink and transferring that onto paper
00:25and no i wasn't i i remember having a go at this years ago but it was a different that's a very
00:31flexible bit of material there isn't it a very flexible bit of liner this is a soft cut liner so
00:36it's much easier to cut than the stuff you might have used at school yeah which would have had a
00:40hessian back um this is much easier to cut and it's ideal for beginners cool yeah it's um yeah i suppose
00:47you can be more intricate because it's easier to cut can't you you can actually yeah yeah you can get
00:52really nice curves and things with it yeah so you were an art teacher for many years in starbridge
00:56if there's anyone watching thinking i'm sure that lady used to teach me in school that's right i taught
01:01a levels for a long time yeah so now this is what you do then so what locations can people find you
01:07doing your workshops they can find me here at crafty happenings which is in pen um i'm also
01:14running workshops at techno institute in techno wood and uh occasionally at red house glass code in
01:20wordsly cool and if people want to find out more you kind of your website or a facebook yes you can
01:25find me on www.zuhalstead.co.uk okay so was this something you just kind of falling in love with
01:33from your teaching days then this process yeah it is um and i also do some block printing on fabric
01:41because i was a textile design teacher as well so it's a similar process to lino printing yeah just
01:47different ink really lovely bit of dandelion action there and then it's a great social thing i should
01:53imagine these workshops as well you've even got a little club going i understand that's right um i
01:58kept getting people coming back to beginner sessions repeatedly and so i realized there was a bit of a
02:03need for uh people to just come together and experiment a little bit more and practice what they'd
02:08learn and so i started a print club which runs on the first wednesday of the month in the evening just
02:13for a couple of hours and we try different techniques and different materials and it's
02:17just a chance for like-minded people to come together and chat over printing that's cool now i was looking
02:22at one of your prints that have got the three different colors and i said oh so that's three
02:26different kind of mats you've you've gouged out but you said that it's kind of you gouged out the
02:31pattern on one mat and then chop the mat like a jigsaw effect yes that's one of the advantages of this
02:36flexible material is quite easy to cut into pieces so uh it gives you a lot of options it's quite
02:42versatile and and you've got i can see there's a couple of different things did you say one of
02:49them you do a book workshop one of the workshops you do is book print brook printing block printing
02:55yeah onto fabric and onto wrapping paper and things like that yeah so we've got just show us a bit of
03:00your work there then we've got floral we've got wildlife does that tend to be your your subjective choice
03:05yeah i tend to be mostly florals and wildlife you can see here that the original lino and here's
03:10um one of the prints taken wow from it so you i guess once that's course you can just keep re-inking
03:16keep going yeah yeah yeah yeah and quite often people that have been on my workshops will take
03:21their lino home and print like christmas cards or that yeah what a lovely thing to do yeah a christmas
03:28card would be magic yeah or even just you know you could be making up your own little wrapping paper or
03:34yes there'll be a christmas card and wrapping paper workshops as well in the reluctant christmas
03:37ah nice one so how long does a workshop last roughly uh beginner's lino printing workshop is about four
03:44hours yeah uh some of them are morning sessions uh kind of 10 or two-ish uh and here at crafting
03:51happenings we tend to do kind of twilight and evening sessions kind of 40 late o'clock and i can imagine
03:58it's quite therapeutic thing to do isn't it really yeah people say that they find the carving of the
04:03lino quite kind of mindful yeah yeah yeah well that's great so don't forget guys come and um
04:10check out sue's page and uh get involved there's some beautiful um beautiful pieces of work there
04:15thank you sue thank you
