Greater Manchester’s Transport Update

Here is a rundown of some of the biggest transport stories in the region for this week.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houstonbets and it's a lovely day here in

00:04Manchester, though the wind does have a little bit of a bite today, so make sure you've all got

00:08your jackets. But on to the reason for the video. Today we're looking at transport, particularly

00:12focusing on three of the more important transport stories that we have on our website that are most

00:16likely to impact you, the people of Greater Manchester. Now firstly, travellers from Mosley

00:20and Greenfield are set to have a difficult period when we reach the end of August. That's because

00:24no services at all will be running through their train stations. This is due to work going on at

00:28Huddersfield. There's going to be a complete stop of services between August 30th and September 28th,

00:33with trains running north from Manchester terminating at Staley Bridge. There will be trains

00:37running from Staley Bridge and rail replacement buses will be operating, but there's likely to

00:41be a substantial impact on journeys into work, so make sure you do all your research so you're not

00:45caught short. On to better news and the substantial improvement works that have been planned for the

00:49Simister Island interchange are set to go ahead. The scheme is going to cost between £200 million and

00:53£350 million, but will reduce congestion, improve journey times and improve safety along that

00:58part of the motorway. The M60, M62 and M66 are all connected there, and it'll see a northern loop

01:04built to prevent thousands of vehicles relying on a light controlled roundabout. A five lane section

01:07of the M60 has been suggested as well, and the M66 on the very side will be widened with a new

01:11lane added from the M60 northbound link. Lastly today, Andy Burnham has joined up with 12 of England's

01:17fellow combined authority mayors. Now already Greater Manchester's dedication to sustainable travel

01:22schemes have been a great success, and the goal now seems to be to expand it countrywide. The mayors have

01:26committed to creating a countrywide network of walking, cycling and wheeling routes that are safe

01:30and easy to use, making the school run easier by delivering such routes in neighbourhoods around

01:34the country, as well as boosting integrated transport networks by giving people easy walking, wheeling and
