There's a light at the end of the tunnel.

After struggling to gather funding to compete at the CARICOM 10K in Jamaica, T&T Distance runner Nicholas Romany was able to successfully defend the overall male category. He won the race in 32 minutes 11 seconds while Alexia John rose to the occasion to win the CARICOM Secretary-General's Trophy in 40 minutes 39 seconds. The race is usually used to commemorate the meeting of the CARICOM heads of government.

00:00I just came out trusting my coach Jason Paris and just executed the plan and I came home with the victory.
00:07I wanted to run a little bit faster but you know it didn't work out that way but I'm still happy that I won.
00:13And I'm very very thankful and grateful that I was here to defend my title.
00:18It was great, I was really nervous. I've only been running less than a year.
00:22So this was new to me, this is my first regional race. I custom raced in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:28This is the first time representing my country outside of Trinidad.
00:31I was very excited and nervous.
