00:00All right, people, it's Jazeera. I'm here to do it. I'm bossy for you guys today of Ultraman
00:05The Adventure Begins slash Ultraman USA, the latest Blu-ray from Tsuburaya and Mill Creek
00:16and everything, and there are a few things we are going to talk about when it comes to this
00:20release. So hold on a minute before you leave your comments. So yeah, so this is an anime film
00:28from 1987 that was a co-production with Hanna-Barbera Studios and, or Productions, whatever, the
00:35creators of shows like Scooby-Doo and the Flintstones, the Jetsons, a bunch of those old, like, 60s
00:41to 70s, even in the 80s and 90s, like, American cartoons that later got absorbed into Warner
00:51Bros, and they're continuing only really one of those franchises. But yeah.
00:58Although the Flintstones did get a movie with WWE for some reason, but yeah. Nothing else,
01:05unfortunately. But yeah. I'm sorry for all the dust that's flying in front of the camera.
01:12But yeah. But they co-produced this with Tsuburaya, and yeah. So again, hold on a minute,
01:20we'll get to the problems when I get to them. So here we go with the Ultraman logo, not the
01:25Ultraman Adventure, the Adventure Begins thing, and then the USA logo right here. This is one
01:31of the original, I believe, posters for the movie. So yeah. With the kaijus in the background,
01:40with Earth, the space and everything, and the three Ultra people on it. Have not seen this
01:45movie, so I am not familiar with their names. But yeah. Includes both the US and Japanese version.
01:50That is misleading. I'll get to that in a second. So here we go with the spine, the two logos and
01:56everything. Milk Creek and all that. I don't know if this has come out even on DVD over here.
02:04It had a Blu-ray in Japan as well, but yeah. I'll talk about that in a second. So yeah. So then we
02:10have a description of the movie, some screenshots, another, I think it's a, I think it is another
02:15screenshot. Includes all new English dub for Ultraman The Adventure Begins. So yeah. So
02:21video, 70p HD, full screen, 1.3, 3x1. Audio, DTS HD, Master Audio, Stereo 2.0. The Ultraman,
02:29Ultraman The Adventure Begins, English, Ultraman USA, English and Japanese. Um, or Japanese and
02:34English. You can see it doesn't say subtitles, but we'll talk about that in a second. Approximately
02:39runtime, Ultraman The Adventure Begins, 78 minutes. That is misleading as well. Technically
02:4375 minutes, because it is shorter credits. Ultraman USA, 78 minutes. They're both in color,
02:50TBPG, this is region free, and all that. Super Uriah, and all that. So here we go with the Blu-ray
02:58case, which this is also, I believe, one of the posters for the movie. Uh, the, one of the Japanese
03:04ones. It looks pretty good. It's more stylized and everything versus this. Um, so yeah. You got the
03:12kaiju and the city in the background, all the characters in the foreground, the Cthulhu-looking
03:17guy right there. Ultraman The Adventure Begins logo and the USA logo again. The spine, and
03:24then the back. Then on the inside, you just got the disc with the two cuts of the movie.
03:31Now, uh, let's get to the bad things about this release. I cannot recommend this release
03:36if you are looking to get everything in a watchable format. Um, so it said, uh, there's a brand
03:44new English dub on the disc. There is. Uh, basically for some reason, Super Uriah could
03:50not clear, I guess, the rights issues or anything, uh, with assumingly what would be Warner Bros.
03:59nowadays. Um, and, um, yeah, cause, uh, Hanna-Barbera would own half the rights to that, um, at the
04:10very least that, like, audio. And Super Uriah would own the other half. And yeah, and then,
04:17um, when it comes to that, uh, trying to figure out how to word this. Basically, basically, um,
04:28when they, um, were going to release this here in America, they needed to re-dub it into English.
04:38So they have a newer voice cast. The dub was produced by Okatron 5000, Chris Sabat's studio.
04:44Chris Sabat, you may know, uh, employee of Funimation, now Crunchyroll, who has produced
04:50and directed, um, many different dubs for them. Mainly the Dragon Ball dubs up until,
04:56the only ones he hasn't done, I think, were, uh, GT and Daima. Uh, maybe some of the movies.
05:03But yeah. But he has directed a lot of other stuff for the Dragon Ball franchise, for Funimation,
05:09now Crunchyroll. But yeah, as well as being the voice of Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha, and a whole
05:13smattering of other characters in that franchise. As well as having at least one voice role in every
05:19other, uh, production for, uh, those companies ever since. But yeah, so he, his company has produced
05:30all of the newer Ultraman dubs that have been thrown onto the Mail Creek discs, like Ultraman Zet,
05:38and, uh, Decker, and whatever else that has been dubbed in the last, like, several years. Um,
05:45since Tsuburaya has been really trying to push Ultraman worldwide and get as much of an audience
05:51as possible. So, yeah. Um, so, yeah. So they produced the new audio for this. I can understand
06:02that, mainly just if it was for just the Japanese cut of the movie, which, it's the same as the
06:09original English one. So I don't know. Now, in Japan, they had the audio for the, the original
06:16English audio. Planning on going to Japan again later this year, so I'll try and look around to
06:22see if I can find a copy of it in, like, a book off or something like that. But this release does
06:29not have that audio. If you're looking for that audio, if you're a fan of it, or if you're even
06:33just curious about it, too, and you want to watch it, this release does not have that audio.
06:39So, yeah. Seemingly due to rights issues. Now, that is mostly understandable, even if some people
06:48will be pissed off by it. What is inexcusable, however, for this release is, like I said, there
06:56are no subtitles for the Japanese audio. Now, the Japanese dub was produced a couple years later,
07:02so it would be based off the English script for the English version of the movie. So, basically,
07:09you should just be watching this in English to get the full experience and everything,
07:13but if you wanted to watch the Japanese dub to see those perform, or to hear those performances
07:19and everything, you're shit out of luck, because, well, it's not on the disc. On top of that,
07:25I ripped this disc the night before, or the day before, I am recording this, and basically,
07:34they, um, Mill Creek encoded this movie three different times on this disc. So, this is a 50
07:40gigabyte Blu-ray disc. Each cut of the movie is about 15 gigabytes. So, you have, well, 15 to 16
07:48gigabytes, somewhere in between. So, it doesn't take up the full 50 gigabytes of the disc,
07:53um, but that would be around, what, like 46, 47 gigabytes? That is really unnecessary. What
08:03should have been done, in my opinion, is they should have programmed the disc to have the branching
08:09paths that you can have on a Blu-ray disc. Um, I'm trying to remember. Uh, I remember, I know,
08:17it's, it's, it's a different company, but, uh, B, the BBC, with, uh, To Entertain, I think is the
08:25company that they have over here, that they absorbed and then renamed, like, BBC Worldwide,
08:29or something like that. Um, they used Blu-ray, the, the branching pathways that you can have on a
08:36Blu-ray disc to have the, um, optional special effects, or optional new CGI special effects,
08:44and whatever, um, and whatever else, on the discs of their classic Doctor Who releases,
08:51um, for the stories that have them. Um, and what should have happened here is you had,
09:01um, like, maybe, or, or, you know, two different angles on the disc. You have one, and then two,
09:08and then, uh, depending on which audio you choose for the Japanese cut of the movie adds the English
09:16credits. Um, but, yeah. So, it really just doesn't make any sense to me why that is like it is. Um,
09:28but, yeah. Uh, and just not including subtitles on the disc for the Japanese audio for those who want
09:35to watch the Japanese dub, that is really stupid. On Blue Sky, um, Disco Tech, or not Disco Tech,
09:43sorry. Disco Tech would have been better about this. Um, they would have actually, like, gotten
09:49subtitles made. Uh, Mill Creek did address it by saying that Tsuburaya did not provide them a subtitle
09:59track to use for the Japanese version of the movie. To which, I have to ask why that was?
10:06Tsuburaya clearly had an English translation of this movie, or the original English script
10:12available somewhere, that they would have had to have given to Ogretron 5000 to re-record the ADR for.
10:20So, it just doesn't make any sense why that would be. And on top of that, there's no closed captioning on
10:27this release for the English audio, so you don't even get that. And like I said, the Japanese dub would
10:34be based on the English script, so I don't understand that at all. Um, then on top of that, Mill Creek has
10:44money. They are a corporation. They have the money to do this. Why they didn't hire a couple of
10:51translators to watch the movie in Japanese and write down the dialogue and translate it to English,
11:00then have another couple of people or something like that write down a subtitle script for it to
11:07put on the disc. I don't know. Granted, I don't know necessarily what goes into this, but this
11:12couldn't have taken more than maybe a week to do. You would have maybe a couple of days for the
11:17translators to properly write down and translate the dialogue into English, and then you have a
11:25couple of days for the video editors for this disc to properly time the subtitles for the dialogue.
11:36For a subtitle script, it's like, it's just weird that that was to happen. I ripped this disc to my
11:45computer while I was at work after I got it, and, um, yeah, it just, it just does not make any sense
11:54to me whatsoever, and it's like, so yeah, so if you're planning on watching the Japanese dialogue
12:01or the, yeah, the Japanese version or the Japanese dialogue with the Japanese cut of the film,
12:06hope you're, like, raw-dogging it, because, like, it just, yeah, it just does not, it's not gonna be
12:12great. Um, hope he can speak at least a little Japanese, so, yeah, it's so stupid. I assume there
12:21may be a replacement disc in the future for this, and if there is, I will make an update video when
12:26that comes out or if that comes out, but I am not holding my breath. Um, that'd be great if it could,
12:35but yeah, I imagine there are some fans who are already working on writing down and translating
12:42the dialogue into Japanese and putting out a torrent or something like that of the Japanese cut of this
12:48movie, or maybe there's already people who did that years ago with the Japanese Blu-ray rips and,
12:55uh, are just gonna apply it to the video files on this cut of the movie. It's just really,
13:02really dumb, and I don't understand it. Uh, this is probably the worst of the Mill Creek Ultraman
13:09releases in this regard. Um, the only other ones I can think of, apparently Ultraman, I think it's
13:15Ultraman 80? No, the Ultraman. Those have Toko HD subs. There's also Gridman, which has Toko HD subs.
13:22Toko HD does not do great sub-detals, so, yeah. But at the very least, though, this is still
13:29mostly watchable, because you can just flip it to the English audio and you're good. Um, but if
13:34you're, again, if you're looking to watch the Japanese version of the movie with the Japanese
13:38audio, you're shit out of luck. Sorry. Um, but yeah. So, yeah, and for the most part, I don't have
13:46many real complaints about most of these releases that I've gotten at the very least. Um, the only ones
13:55I have really a problem with are the steelbooks for the first seven Ultraman series from Ultra Q to
14:02Ultraman Leo that I got, because there were a bunch of those discs that got scratched to hell
14:07because, like, stacked discs and the discs, like, spun around as they were in transit and everything,
14:14and that ruined several of the discs and parts, to which I had to get the regular releases because
14:20those discs didn't get scratched up, thankfully. But, yeah, on top of those releases just being
14:26better, I think, aesthetic-wise for the packaging. But, yeah. But, uh, but, yeah. So, basically, just,
14:35yeah, the next one that's going to be available is Ultraman Decker, so, yeah, that's going to be
14:40within a month. I'm expecting that release to be better than this because I think that that is an
14:45English dub. I could be wrong. Um, but it's also going to have English subtitles and everything. It's going
14:50to be a more complete package. It's going to be a more complete package. So, yeah. Um, that's
14:56basically it. So, I really don't have much else to say. So, links in the description on my show,
15:02subscribe if you want, and I'll see you guys in the next one.
