00:00The Pittsburgh Steelers finally have Aaron Rodgers in their building as their quarterback.
00:07That has not stopped questions around Pittsburgh, though.
00:11This team ultimately moved on from George Pickens.
00:15It's maybe why they were aggressive in bringing in DK Metcalf,
00:18because they knew they were going to move on from Pickens.
00:21They bring in Jalen Ramsey, but that meant that Minka Fitzpatrick was leaving.
00:26Oh, Johnnie Smith is here.
00:28By the way, and then just incredibly hanging over the heads is now TJ Watt, maybe?
00:35I don't know if that's a whole other bag of tricks, quite frankly, for Pittsburgh to deal with.
00:41But the conversations around this football team begin with Aaron Rodgers,
00:47because Aaron Rodgers is a future first ballot Hall of Famer
00:51who has not been producing at the level his teams have been looking for for around five or so years now.
01:01Some injuries impacted that, too.
01:03Maybe it's four years, if you want to be exact.
01:06I think the most fascinating thing, Donnie, about Rodgers going to Pittsburgh
01:11is it feels like the thing most people are watching is will Rodgers be synced up
01:18with the first ever time a Mike Tomlin-led Steeler team finishes under .500?
01:25And it could be that way, because we're looking at Aaron Rodgers getting older in his career.
01:29You know what was underrated for Aaron Rodgers while he was with the Green Bay Packers?
01:32The mobility in the pocket.
01:33The originally the size slip, some of those pass rushers here, extend the play,
01:36and he always had a great arm.
01:37You saw that with the Jets, which is quite an issue.
01:40You look at that Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line, it's not great.
01:42But understand this, too.
01:43I do believe they're a better football team with Aaron Rodgers
01:46than what they were last year with any combination of Russell Wilson
01:48and Justin Fields at that point.
01:51But here's the issue that comes into play.
01:52You're right, because how committed is Aaron Rodgers?
01:55Did he really want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler?
01:57Or did he say, you know, I'll give it a run here?
01:58Because the thought process is, guys, where he wanted to be a Minnesota Viking,
02:02he wanted to maybe be a San Francisco 49er, maybe even a New York Giant.
02:06And they all told him no.
02:06And it took a while for them to come to an agreement with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
02:09I don't care if they said, well, we agreed back in February
02:11just to keep it quiet at this point.
02:13That's absolute nonsense.
02:14But for me, this team is going to win more games than it loses
02:17because that's what Mike Tomlin does.
02:19Like the Duck Hodges of the world and the Mason Rudolphs.
02:21Like they've been to the playoffs with those type of players.
02:23So why can't they do it with Aaron Rodgers?
02:25But the key ingredient you all want to ask you this is,
02:28you take a look at Mike Tomlin.
02:29He always wins more games than he loses.
02:31But it says something about you really need to get your franchise started
02:34with your franchise quarterback.
02:35Let me just ask you if Aaron Rodgers makes the playoffs
02:38and it's a quick exit.
02:39Is that a success for the Steelers?
02:41Because to me, it's like, okay, Aaron, thanks for that.
02:43Now we're going to restart the entire franchise.
02:44Absolutely. I think it's terrible.
02:45I think they made this decision a couple of years ago
02:48when they were 11 and a half point underdogs with Mason Rudolph
02:52and lost the playoff game to the Buffalo Bills.
02:54The writing was on the wall then.
02:55Are they any better as a football team two or three years later
02:59now than what they were back then?
03:01The answer is no.
03:02They're stuck in neutral.
03:03They get DK Metcalf.
03:05To your point, they ship out George Pickens.
03:07It's a great move if they keep George Pickens.
03:09And I understand that George Pickens was a locker room guy.
03:12He was a problem.
03:13I get that.
03:14But the issue is the moves that they have made,
03:17just they take one step forward.
03:18They take two steps back.
03:19Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slade,
03:21great additions at the cornerback position with Joey Porter Jr.
03:24If you had Minka Fitzpatrick back there,
03:27an all-pro in terms of the safety position,
03:29they have five or six guys now on the defensive side of the ball
03:32that are aging.
03:33They're at the back end of their careers.
03:35Players like T.J. Watt, Cam Hayward.
03:37And at the end of the day, when you look at Aaron Rodgers,
03:40he didn't step up in big games last year for the New York Jets.
03:43Throws three interceptions against Minnesota.
03:45Can't beat the New England Patriots on the road as a seven-point favorite.
03:49Loses to multiple teams throughout the regular season,
03:52including Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts
03:55as a four-and-a-half-point home favorite.
03:57He didn't step up in critical spots.
03:59He compiled stats after they were out of playoff contention,
04:03and now I'm supposed to buy in?
04:05I'm selling it.
04:06I think this is a terrible move by the organization,
04:09and I'm selling under six-and-a-half wins
04:11at plus 240 on multiple books.
04:14So for Aaron Rodgers, and to clean up what I said at the beginning
04:16about him not producing for five years,
04:18I knew I probably went back a little far.
04:20Rodgers' five most recent seasons are actually MVP, MVP,
04:26lose the last week of the season to the Lions
04:29in his last-ever game as the Packers,
04:31injured game number one, and then whatever last season was
04:34where he somehow almost flirts with a 30-touchdown season,
04:38yet he wasn't good for any of the season
04:41or any real stretch of the season.
