00:00obviously uh he signed the deal finally and you know everybody's uh on board now that he's going

00:08to be the Steelers quarterback you wrote about it and uh basically in not so many words you said

00:14they lowered their standards to do it oh I think I said they abandoned their standards to do it

00:20Scott I lowered maybe too too gentle a way to to put it this is not like anything they've done

00:27before and and there are some who would point to the fact that they have not won a playoff game

00:31in eight seasons and say well good they needed a change uh but I think the fact that they have

00:38had one losing season in this century says they didn't need this kind of change Aaron Rodgers

00:44history of cooperation cooperation with his coaches is not elite uh with his teammates is

00:52middling uh I with with with putting himself above all others is extraordinary and I don't see how

01:01that fits in any way to what the Steelers have been for the last 55 years and what's made them

01:07basically if you look at if you break it down just about every other way it's been the most successful

01:12franchise in the NFL since the 1970 merger between the AFL and NFL and they've had three coaches for a

01:20reason because they win and they haven't won big lately and that's because they haven't had great

01:25quarterback play but I don't think getting the guy who led the the Jets to what five and 12 last year

01:32is necessarily going to change that yeah I mean look uh I actually and you wrote about Justin Fields

01:40and a lot of his teammates really liked him and liked the way he worked and I liked the way he played

01:47and I I think you know I went to a few of the games and he went four and two in those six games that he

01:53started and then he turned around and got you know whatever 40 million and 75 percent of it I think you

01:59wrote guaranteed in that deal with the Jets I guess we'll find out in short order uh who's got the

02:05better deal because they're playing each other in week one now look I I have to get did would you have

02:11rather had Fields or Wilson obviously over this guy uh would are you on the side of Fields or Wilson I

02:21thought Wilson was terrible in December well he was but the the challenge was monstrous and just about

02:29anybody would have done the same or similar against that that stretch and then uh the the challenge of

02:35dealing with Arthur Smith in the Cincinnati game that closed the regular season was even worse than having

02:40to try to go against Baltimore's defense or Philly's defense uh is Arthur Smith's game plan for the bank

02:46the second Bengals game was beyond atrocious it was I think maybe juvenile would be a good word

02:54uh for what they did in that game uh outside of the end of half two minute drill and the late comeback

03:02attempt that they had where they started to throw the ball because they had no choice

03:05they ran the ball on 11 out of 12 first downs without any success I think they had two

03:11runs of longer than four yards in those 11 so what are you doing so you can't blame Russ for that

03:17uh so I I my feeling was commit to Justin Fields tailor your offense to what makes him exceptional

03:24and then find find a quarterback in the 2026 draft that was my preference and at the numbers the Jets

03:33paid I think that was a fair preference if you didn't want to tinker with your offense and you

03:38wanted to continue to go down what you did last year then bringing Russ back with a year's experience

03:44uh would have been preferable to bringing in this guy I know there were there were reports that some

03:50of the people inside the organization uh didn't connect with Russ to put it nicely uh but I don't

03:56think any of them are going to connect with this guy because this guy's not interested in that
