5 July - National weather forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, a very good evening.
00:02The summer feeling is lacking somewhat this weekend.
00:06Instead, many of us have seen quite a lot of cloud, with this stream filtering its way
00:11in from the Atlantic, all driven in by this area of low pressure that's currently skirting
00:16by the UK.
00:18Areas to the east of high grounds have managed to see a few breaks in that cloud today, some
00:21sunshine poking through, but certainly in the west it's been very grey and with outbreaks
00:26of rain and drizzle.
00:27They'll be continuing into this evening and overnight.
00:31They'll generally be on the light side to begin with, but we could see them starting
00:34to turn heavier and a bit more intense across parts of northern Wales into northern England
00:39during the early hours of Sunday morning.
00:41A brisk breeze continuing overnight as well, and with that breeze in the cloud it's going
00:46to be a mild night for all of us, quite muggy in places as well.
00:49A lot of areas of England and Wales holding up around 15, 16 degrees Celsius, 12, 13 as
00:55your overnight lows for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:59It's worth catering for some quite heavy pulses of rain moving through across England
01:03first thing tomorrow morning, intensifying particularly around the Wash and the Humber
01:07region.
01:08That's tending to break up into a more scattered shower situation, steadily progressing its
01:12way south eastwards throughout the day.
01:14Some thunderstorms are possible in amongst all of that intense downpours of rain, maybe
01:18even some hail, and that could affect Wimbledon for a time, so do take care.
01:22A scattering of showers elsewhere, but the sunshine will tend to break through for northern Scotland
01:26into the afternoon, but with that brisk northwesterly wind still in play, it's going to be feeling
01:31rather cool in places, 16 to 18 degrees Celsius as the high is here.
01:36While we hold on to a touch more warmth in the south, 23 or 24 degrees is possible.
01:42Into next week, we are starting to see high pressure build in from the Atlantic, but it's
01:47making quite slow progress initially, and so on Monday there are still a few fronts just
01:52slipping their way through the flow.
01:55This will provide some early morning rain for southeastern areas of England, and a scattering
01:59of showers will always affect North Sea coastal areas, and the other fronts will provide further
02:03showers for northwest Scotland as well.
02:06But with that high building in from the west, Wales, western England should start to see the
02:10sunshine breaking through more readily into the afternoon, and considering all the cloud
02:14we've had around over the weekend, that will certainly make it feel like a much more pleasant
02:19day.
02:20Temperatures again, 23 degrees Celsius as the high in the south, 17 for Scotland and Northern
02:24Ireland.
02:25We do, though, hold on to quite a brisk breeze across most areas on Monday, so that will probably
02:30make it feel cooler than what these values suggest when you are outside.
02:34That high is looking to build in quite widely across more areas of the UK.
02:39As we head into the rest of next week, so stay up to date with the latest for what that could
02:44mean for all of our fortunes.
02:45I'll see you again very soon.
02:46Bye-bye.
