00:00the things i get talked into i challenge the old guy here to race in totally two different
00:07platforms my platform's gonna smoke you bro fastest production sedan uh sold in america in 2022
00:14and an awesome f350 i don't know the result i do we're gonna waste some rubber that's what's gonna
00:20happen this is the cake we're cooking we've got uh we're getting lined up to do a bunch of six
00:37sevens this week one of them we got super special we're putting billet caps in it but the rest of
00:42these are uh so we're going to take these rusty old cores we'll oven bake them and we'll shot blast
00:46them and then we'll put them through the process and we're going to show you every machine operation
00:51that we run through from a rusty block to a full build
01:21so
01:35hey six sevens clean clean hot not clean yet that's still got to go into the plaster but
02:01these have been blasted and now let me show you what we're doing on this one we're putting billet
02:05caps on so what we got going right now is we're getting ready to line blower this block this is
02:10the one we got billet caps this is our right angle milling head and i've got my cutter i'm warming this
02:15up so i want to cut my metal with my machine fully warmed up if this is cold and then this is room
02:23temperature and i don't get this up to where it's going to be and i cut this i'll be off honestly
02:30it'll move two three thousandths of an inch and i know a lot of people out there they're like
02:34what's the difference in that let me show you so a hair on an old guy is a thousandth of an inch
02:40your best machine shops out there five times small at point zero zero zero two five times smaller than a
02:48hair is the tolerance i'm after so i want to get this all warm up i've got some indicating dye in here
02:55i painted the inside of these holes the mains i use an indicator like this i'll sweep the hole
03:00and as that moves around the hole that tells me that i'm centered in that hole you not only want
03:05to be centered on this hole but you want to be centered on every hole and you don't want to stack
03:10in problems so if your block is tilted anyway you won't have a straight block you know your crank
03:17could be sitting in here like crooked i'm exaggerating obviously but we want to keep all of that within
03:23two ten thousandths of an inch that's the only way you can do it so when people want to say they
03:27blueprint a block this is what blueprinting a block is let's talk about the difference between cast
03:34and billet cast iron under a microscope would be like this okay it it would the molecules there
03:43would be space more space in between the carbon molecules and the iron when you a forged or a piece
03:52of billet what they do is instead of just letting that cool like that why it's red hot it's under a
03:58big press and it's all there's great pictures all over the internet and they pound it boom boom boom
04:04so that all of these there's no there's less space it's more it's a more solid piece of metal now
04:09listen that's that's the easiest explanation i can get i know it's not scientific but just remember this
04:18is a lot heavier it's more dense so we're going to go ahead and uh take a cut let's do it man
04:26our first cut we're not even going to touch this we're going to be hitting more of this top cap because
04:31this is smaller they've actually oversized that cap so we'd have enough room to cut out to hit that
04:38circle oh that's so sweet that's so sweet okay now we've done this one and we've cleaned all the
04:51indicator die off of there and we'll put a little indicator die on here and up here and we'll be
04:57finished hey guys at wagler you maybe you gotta have two part numbers on these caps if they want a
05:07girdle and everybody wants a girdle you don't have enough room you cannot get a longer stud i know
05:12everybody's thinking that's the fix because i got to put this girdle underneath these studs my problem
05:17is when we bolt this windage tray to the inside of this pan it's going to be hard for you to see here
05:24but because of the studs and when i put this pan up on here i'll hit them if i had longer studs i
05:32mean there's barely enough clearance there now so what we're having to do i've got to cut those caps
05:38that much distance so that i can get this girdle on here we're taking 0.380 of meat off the top of all
05:47these caps that's my point of these two part numbers anyway we'll keep going this is what
05:52custom engine building is you know everything you know the companies will say oh it bolts right in
05:58not necessarily most of the time oh no it don't so this is our 67 that we did the billet main caps on
06:05and the billet girdle so we line board the billet caps and then a line honed them to finish them to size
06:12and now that we have our main line done we're going to put it in the rotler f79 to get the cylinders board
06:20and deck the block as well
06:50and then we're going to put it in the rotler f79 to get the
07:18we're getting ready to uh torque plate hone a couple of our 67 high performance blocks and
07:36when i say high performance we're doing all kinds of stuff on these we put billet caps on them stud
07:41girdles line bore line hone and now we're getting ready to use our 67 torque plate
07:47now look torque plates everybody asked me you got a torque plate here's some of them there's another
07:52one there's a bunch of them up there and really old stuff from like you know that i never see
07:57anymore it's over in the warehouse jesse everybody say hi to jesse hello jesse's the man he's gonna
08:03he's gonna go ahead and vertical hone this block and uh then i you got another one to do right here
08:09yeah these are sick motors so it's gonna be really cool when we get them all done so follow along
08:16so
08:27so
08:37We're going to go ahead and scrub out the oil galleys in this block and get it ready
08:53to build.
09:07Okay guys, we're going to talk a little bit more about these pistons and how unique they
09:28are.
09:29Speed of Air has partnered with UEM, United Engine Machine, and made probably the best
09:36piston that we've ever worked with.
09:38It has this amazing dimpling on here and it's de-lipped in such a unique way.
09:43I mean, they've been doing this since World War II, I think.
09:46The technology's been out for a long time.
09:48So we get a lot of people asking us, like, well, how do you think, like, is this new technology?
09:53No, it's actually old technology that has been proven and retested and tested for decades
10:02now to now come with this that now we're putting in engines because the technology is there,
10:09the data is there, and it's amazing.
10:11The results are incredible.
10:13So we're building this wicked 6.7 and we're using these for that reason to improve efficiency,
10:22to improve torque, as well to reduce emissions.
10:24So it's really cool.
10:25Joey, they've got this weird second ring.
10:29We've got this gapless second ring in here, which really just helps to keep the combustion
10:33inside of the chamber, to help keep soot from getting down into your oil, just keeps your
10:37oil a lot cleaner.
10:38So that's just another additive to this awesome piston we've got here.
10:42And what's the benefit of eliminating soot?
10:44The soot, yeah, you know, once that gets down into your oil, I'm sure every one of you
10:48that has a diesel, you change your oil, you fire it up for five minutes, and your oil's
10:52black.
10:53You can put it in there for, you know, 5,000 miles.
10:55That is the soot in the fuel.
10:57The gapless ring helps keep all that up in the combustion chamber.
11:01The dimpled pistons helps to burn all that fuel more efficiently.
11:05So you know, it's just the two best of the worlds working together there.
11:08Okay.
11:09So we're going to show you, as Joey assembles this, but okay, so this is the piston we
11:13have.
11:14Tell us about these rods.
11:15These are X-beam rods, oil bushing.
11:17It's actually, if you look in here, this bushing is actually drilled through this rod to
11:22oil the bushing, which is always better.
11:24You want to oil everything you can in there.
11:25It's a ARP rod bolts in there, locates off there with the tank, so this rod cap does not
11:31move at all.
11:32It's just a way beefier rod than the stock rod that goes in it.
11:35Oh, that thing looks.
11:36Yeah.
11:37So there's your stock rod that comes out of the 6-7.
11:40That's the guy we're putting in there.
11:41The guy she tells you not to worry about.
11:43There you go.
11:44One thing that I get asked a lot of questions about are tangless bearings.
12:09A lot of people get nervous that there's no tang on the bearing.
12:11I'll tell you right now, all a tang for is locating.
12:14If you'll look in this block, there's no tangs in there.
12:19So the tang is not to hold the bearing in, it's just to locate it, so you want to make
12:23sure you're centered there.
12:24The thing that's going to hold that bearing in is called bearing crush, and that's why
12:28we line home these blocks to make sure that our housing bore is where it needs to be.
12:34You want to make sure that bearing is fully coated and there's no metal on metal.
12:47It'll save your bearings.
12:48I'll give you guys a little tip.
12:50Leave your thrust bearings out.
12:53It'll help you to get a little movement so you can time it better.
13:00We can just go lift that up.
13:03Got her timed.
13:07Get our thrust bearings.
13:14Get your thrust bearings.
13:23Get your thrust bearings.
13:29Like a glove.
13:59So the directions for installing these, what I'm about to install here?
14:22It's complicated.
14:23That's the directions for installing these.
14:27Okay, this is the biggest motor we've probably put in my machine, a fully dressed 6.7.
14:42And it's a load of weight, man.
14:44About 800 pounds.
14:45Is that what this thing weighs, fully dressed?
14:51And what we do back here, we've got this drive shaft and we put this adapter coupler on the
15:13back of the crankshaft, slide that on there, and that's how we turn this motor.
15:17Okay, we've got this bad boy in here, the oil is warmed up, let's spin it up, man.
15:32Okay.
15:33You want it faster?
15:34Yeah, a little faster.
15:35What we have, how much oil pressure we got at 150, I'm certain.
15:51All right, we'll do a running compression test on it.
15:58We've got good oil pressure at idle, and get this thing put in the truck.
16:05Okay.
16:06So instead of just your turbos assembly in here, there'll be another turbo here.
16:15And you can notice down here, on our oil pan, we've got a return for that, so this is an
16:19updated oil pan that I have to have to do this.
16:25This is, by far, the most monster 6.7 that we've ever built.
16:30So we're getting pretty close, and we'll give you some more shots as soon as we get the turbo
16:34on.
16:36Oh my goodness, that's that beady, that thing is sexy, bro.
17:01Let's just rub it for a minute.
17:03I think Miles found it.
17:07Wow.
17:08This is one bad mother.
17:12Bad mamma jamma.
17:13Let's move this.
17:18You're pretty good.
17:19Come on back.
17:20I'm trying to see.
17:21Hold on.
17:22A little more.
17:23A little more.
17:24A little more.
17:25Okay, down.
17:26A little more in the back.
17:27That's good.
17:28Come on down.
17:29That's good.
17:30No more.
17:31Let it down a little bit.
17:33Whoa.
17:34Oh baby.
17:35Oh, close.
17:36Just let the engine down, just a half inch.
17:41I'm in.
17:44We need some bolts.
17:45Okay.
17:46Now is your torque converter where you want it?
17:52Yeah, I just got to start this real quick.
17:54Oh, that needs a short one.
17:59We're done, dude.
18:00Baby's in there.
18:01Okay.
18:02Now she'll go forward.
18:03Where's your big meaty pry bar?
18:06Over here.
18:07Big meaty.
18:08Oh, there you go dude.
18:09Oh, there you go dude.
18:10How come it didn't fall down in it?
18:11Cause they're fresh and I gotta, I gotta do some muscling on it.
18:14You got this tranny strapped up.
18:15That's why I'm in it.
18:16I'm in it.
18:17I'm in it.
18:18I'm in it.
18:19I'm in it.
18:20I'm in it.
18:21I'm in it.
18:22I'm in it.
18:23I'm in it.
18:24I'm in it.
18:25It's a tranny, dude.
18:26It's a tranny, dude.
18:27That's what we want.
18:28Oh, there you go dude.
18:30How come it didn't, how come it didn't fall down in it?
18:33Cause they're fresh and I gotta, I gotta do some muscling on it.
18:38You got this tranny strapped up.
18:40That's why I didn't want to fall down.
18:42Fall down?
18:43Shoot, we ought to have it up and running here in another 15 minutes.
18:46Just kidding.
18:47Downhill.
18:48Downhill.
19:02Okay, so we've got this compound turbo set up,
19:06but we wanted to make sure that we made an air box
19:08that didn't sit here and just grab all this hot air.
19:12And there wasn't one available, so we fabricated this one here.
19:16And I think it's a pretty dang good job, actually,
19:20because we've still got to get our battery in here,
19:22so we had no space at all.
19:25And you'll see the hood. I'll show it.
19:26We had it custom done, and the hood's got a scoop,
19:29so I'm not drawing any air except through this hood scoop.
19:32So come here, let me show it to you.
19:34So this is the hood, and I want to show you what we still have to do in the hood.
19:37Now, they've fiberglassed this all in, cut this out in the underneath of this.
19:42The air will come through here, and this is all duct work here.
19:46This is all hollow duct work.
19:48And then we have the vent back here at the windshield.
19:50So we'll have airflow all through this hood that'll come out the back here.
19:56What he still has to do, and it'll be right here,
19:59is we'll have to mark where the hood is and put some foam
20:02so that we're sucking this ram air that's coming through the front of that grill
20:07right through here.
20:08The first place it's going to go is right here to our air filter.
20:13It'll also draft air out of the engine compartment to keep those twin turbos cooled off.
20:22And this will create a venturi effect at the back of this,
20:25and it will suck all the air out of the engine compartment here.
20:29So it should work really cool, because that's one of the things we're concerned about.
20:33You know, one turbo under the hood is a lot of heat.
20:37Two of them, a crap load of heat.
20:40The next day.
20:42The things I get talked into.
20:44We're going to, I challenge the old guy here to race in totally two different platforms.
20:51My platform is going to smoke you, bro.
20:53So, fastest production sedan sold in America in 2022.
20:58And an awesome F350 that we've done.
21:01The speed of air tow monster with a stage 3 cam, compound turbos, 60 over injectors,
21:07the DCR pump.
21:09It's a sweet truck.
21:10I don't know the result.
21:12I do.
21:12We're going to waste some rubber.
21:13That's what's going to happen.
21:15Okay.
21:15Let's do it.
21:23Let's do it.
21:53My platform is going to smoke you, bro.
