On Monday, employees at the Eastern Regional Health Authority were surprised to learn that their salaries had not hit their bank accounts, causing them to become disgruntled.

A demonstration was planned, but was called off after the ERHA sorted out the issue.

However, the T&T Registered Nurses Association expresses concern over what transpired.

Alicia Boucher has the details.

00:00President of the TNT Registered Nurses Association, Eddie Stewart, finds it unacceptable that the Eastern Regional Health Authority workers will not pay their salaries when it was due.
00:11He says that is usually the last working day before month end, so in essence, the workers should have been paid no later than Friday, June 27th, based on what he tells us is enshrined in law.
00:23When the issue was brought to his attention, Stewart tells us he contacted Health Minister Dr. Lac Rambodo and the Chief Executive Officer of the ERHA Angelina Rampasad Pair.
00:34Who would have indicated that they would ensure that salaries are paid, but that is not good enough.
00:40And the laws of the country actually has been broken. This is something really has not happened in quite a while to my memory.
00:48As he spoke to TV6 News, workers banking with the same financial institution as the ERHA had received their salaries, but others were still said to be waiting for it to show up in their accounts with other banks.
01:01The TTRNA raises the issue that those who have loans and other bills requiring payment by a set date might now be hit with late fees.
01:10And he sends a message to health care workers who find themselves in that situation.
01:14To make sure it doesn't happen again, we want you to send in those receipts and we'll be following it to the Minister of Health for their payments as such.
01:24The TTRNA states that no official reason was given for the late payment.
01:28In response to TV6 News on what caused the issue and measures taken to prevent a recurrence, the ERHA would only say,
01:36quote, it wishes to advise that a subvention check was deposited and as at 10.50 a.m. today,
01:43all financial institutions have completed a disbursement of salaries to all employees.
01:49The Eastern Regional Health Authority assures all staff that every effort was made to ensure timely processing within the authority's control.
01:57End quote.
