Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has instructed the South West Regional Health Authority to reinstate Dr. Joel Teelucksingh, amid an investigation into his conduct.

Dr. Teelucksingh had been placed on administrative leave, reportedly due to a newspaper column he authored. Alicia Boucher has the details.

00:00Dr. Joel Tilak Singh, in a satirical column, appeared to refer to the opening of the Port
00:05of Spain's central block, calling it a hospital in theory, but not in practice.
00:10He pointed to the grand unveiling by former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, amid reports
00:16of a lack of internal equipment, saying after the formal proceedings, the public returned
00:21to overcrowded medical facilities and long waiting lists.
00:25It was revealed that Dr. Tilak Singh had been sent on administrative leave by the Southwest
00:30Regional Health Authority.
00:32The SWRHA confirmed this on Sunday, stating that a suspension with pay was a move taken
00:37to facilitate an internal, fair and transparent investigation into a matter of compliance
00:43with the RHA's Governing Code of Conduct policies.
00:47The SWRHA said it was unable to provide any further details due to the investigation that
00:52was initiated.
00:54But in a subsequent statement to the media, Health Minister Terence de Alsing announced
00:58that he had instructed the SWRHA to immediately reinstate the medical doctor.
01:05De Alsing said, quote, whilst I find his opinions and writing sometimes controversial, I am
01:11a firm believer in free speech, even at my own personal expense, end quote.
01:17The minister outlined that the investigation will continue while Dr. Tilak Singh is on
01:23the job.
