02:59Today, we're getting to a few things.
03:01One, SmackDown results.
03:02Two, predictions for Night of Champions and the rest of the day's news and rumors.
03:06Starting with SmackDown, decent show, but it felt rushed.
03:10It felt like they just had to get all their stuff in.
03:13They didn't really have this well planned out.
03:15It almost is a knock-on.
03:17Every time they go to Saudi Arabia, something funky goes on, and it just doesn't feel right.
03:21This is the same situation with this episode.
03:23Show kicks off with Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes coming face to face.
03:27I think they did a very good time, a very good job of their interplay with each other.
03:34They have a history.
03:36The reactions from the fans were amazing.
03:39I think everything that went on between these two in this interaction was perfect.
03:45If you really think about it, the whole opportunity to have a huge match between Randy and Cody, I don't think this pay-per-view is the last time we'll see that.
03:57I really don't.
03:58I think we need to wait for one or the other to go heel and then have that big blowout match.
04:03Probably a WrestleMania-level match.
04:05But this was nice to set things up and get things going and really just further everything ahead.
04:11There was some issue with the American feed cutting out.
04:15So if you were watching this live earlier, that's an issue, about a 30-minute feed issue.
04:21And when they come back, Jimmy Uso and JC Matteo are getting in the ring.
04:24Solo Sokoa at ringside.
04:26Decent match.
04:27Nothing surprising here.
04:28I think everybody would expect JC Matteo to win.
04:30The action comes after the match when Solo Sokoa gets in the ring.
04:35He's trying to get Jimmy Uso to embrace him.
04:37Jacob Fatu comes out.
04:40We have a whole interplay there.
04:42I actually see Jimmy save Jacob at one point, which I thought was a really interesting way to handle this.
04:48You know, because we have to find a way to get Jimmy and Jacob on the same page.
04:52Now, actually, we'll get to that in a minute.
04:54I don't want to spoil anything too soon.
04:55I have an update regarding this storyline to begin with, but we'll get to that in a minute.
04:59We'll get to that in a minute.
05:01Clearly, this is furthering the United States Championship match for tomorrow night.
05:06Everything, again, rushed, but works.
05:09I'm not sure how I feel about the Jimmy Uso angle.
05:13I actually thought there was a small chance Jimmy might actually go with Solo.
05:17Maybe that'll happen in the future.
05:18I don't know.
05:19But if they want to put Jimmy and Jay back together because their tag team division is lacking challengers really heavily right now,
05:26you would have to steer clear of that for right now.
05:30The next match that we get, Zelina Vega defending the Women's Championship against Julia.
05:35And in Saudi Arabia for SmackDown, Julia is going to win her first main roster singles championship,
05:42pinning Zelina Vega with a Northern Lights bomb for the win becoming the new Women's United States Champion.
05:48Congratulations to Julia.
05:50I love seeing her in a prime spot.
05:52They're really accentuating her call up to the main roster and really trying to shatter the misconception that everybody who comes up from NXT goes nowhere.
06:03That's not true.
06:04And clearly, Julia is doing a great job.
06:07We have some more interplay with Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss.
06:11Clearly, there's an opportunity here for the two of them to be paired up.
06:15I think that would be interesting.
06:17And really could give some great challengers for whoever the Women's Tag Team Champions are coming out of Evolution 2.
06:23Asuka and Jade Cargill, they get in the ring for an in-ring segment.
06:27Very good interplay.
06:28Asuka's got such a unique character, as does Jade Cargill in very different ways.
06:33I don't love the injection of Naomi into their business, her coming out and interrupting them.
06:39I mean, I love her character, but I don't need it for this.
06:43It almost feels like old news.
06:45I feel like she needs to save that briefcase until after Cargill wins the Women's Championship at some point and they cash in on Jade.
06:52But whatever.
06:53It worked.
06:54Asuka ends up getting physical with Jade Cargill.
06:56Naomi's mocking her at the end.
06:58But, you know, it could have been worse.
07:00It really could have.
07:01But, you know, again, it felt rushed.
07:03It felt like they were just trying to get everything in to have a complete show.
07:07R-Truth is going to have...
07:10I apologize.
07:11I've got to add a word.
07:12DIY has their match with Andrade and Rey Fenix.
07:14Hate what they're doing with DIY right now.
07:16It's a great tag team.
07:17But they lose to Andrade and Rey Fenix.
07:19And why are Andrade and Rey Fenix a tag team to begin with?
07:22Phoenix always should have gone to Raw and paired with his brother.
07:25I don't know why they did this.
07:26I mean, I'm fine with the two of them picking up a win.
07:28I just don't like to see it go over DIY.
07:31At the end of the match, it looked like either Ciampa is a fantastic seller for his injury.
07:39Or a guy with a history of neck problems may have hurt his neck at the end of the match
07:43because he was holding his neck and everybody stayed away from him for a while.
07:46So I'm not sure if there's an injury there or not.
07:49That's definitely something to monitor, keep our eyes on.
07:52R-Truth got his opportunity to come to the ring.
07:54He was, you know, going out, talking his Truth conversation.
07:57And when that happens, Aleister Black appeared behind him and hit him with black masks,
08:01telling him that they're even now.
08:02I don't know how I feel about this feud.
08:04I think it's interesting you put Truth in a premium feud with Aleister Black,
08:07if you consider Aleister Black premium anymore, the way WWE's been booking him.
08:11But I like that you're moving him away from John Cena,
08:13because obviously they're not going to have him win the championship,
08:15even though some of us would support that.
08:17But it's interesting.
08:19It's an interesting feud to have Aleister Black and R-Truth.
08:22So I'm okay for it.
08:23I'm here for it.
08:24I want to see that.
08:25Street Profits, they get their interview moment,
08:28having a conversation, explaining what's going on.
08:31They end up having their match with the Wyatt Six,
08:33which basically turned into a free-for-all.
08:36Multiple teams coming out, getting involved.
08:38Los Garzas, Money City Machine Guns, Fraxium,
08:40everybody coming out and getting involved.
08:42This was a total schmoz, waste of time.
08:44Again, felt like it furthers the tag team storyline a bit,
08:48but it felt so fast.
08:50It really, really did.
08:51There was some interplay backstage between Jacob Fatu and Jimmy Uso.
08:55It seems like that's a union that's going to take place.
08:58I'm not sure how yet, but that's exciting if they do something useful with Jimmy Uso,
09:02because I think he deserves more than what he's been getting.
09:05The main match event for the evening was the Women's Championship,
09:09Nia Jax versus Tiffany Stratton for the Women's Championship.
09:12Solid match.
09:13It's a last woman standing match.
09:15A couple near falls at the end.
09:17Several seven or eight counts throughout the match.
09:21At the end though, what my issue is, again, feels rushed.
09:24Naomi comes out threatening to cash in money in the bank.
09:27All sorts of melee at the end.
09:29And Jack's hitting a big move and setting up for an eight count.
09:35But when she goes to set her up, she ends up getting knocked through two tables on the outside.
09:40It was a really awkward looking bump.
09:42And that picks up the 10 count and the win for Tiffany Stratton.
09:46I'm fine with Tiffany winning.
09:48I just, again, like Naomi's in everybody's business and it's almost intrusive at this point.
09:53And I feel like this Nia Jax thing has been done to death.
09:56Like this was almost a pointless match.
09:58But whatever.
09:59It is what it is.
10:00We'll have to wait and see where they go with this in the going forward.
10:02John Cena and CM Punk come out.
10:04They face to face before Night of Champions.
10:07Interesting reaction to CM Punk coming out earlier in the day.
10:11He was booed at the press show because of his comments in 2019 to The Miz about Saudi Arabia.
10:18He apologized on that show, but clearly not everybody got the memo.
10:21But he did, you know, this is going to be an interesting thing.
10:24The really cool thing is when punk life flashes on the screen.
10:27John Cena's old theme music and CM Punk came out, which was hilarious.
10:33And a Cubs throwback and a big necklace and knuckles that say drug free on him.
10:38It was so funny.
10:39Jorts, hat, the whole John Cena nine yards.
10:42It was absolutely hilarious.
10:44I loved it.
10:45This was good back and forth.
10:46I really think it was solid.
10:48Again, I feel like a broken record tonight.
10:51It's very repetitive in terms of how much it felt rushed.
10:55But it accomplished what it needed to accomplish.
10:58So, SmackDown, all in all, pretty solid show.
11:01Not a lot of complaints other than the pacing.
11:04I think they could have done a little more to make things make more sense.
11:08But, you know, who am I?
11:11You know, I don't understand always what it takes to make these things happen.
11:15Let's get into our predictions real quick because we want to get to those.
11:18Night of Champions tomorrow night.
11:20Sami Zayn versus Karrion Kross.
11:22If I'm picking the winner of this, I would have Kross win.
11:26But I don't think WWE is going to do that because Kross' contract is coming up and I don't think they want to push him because they haven't signed him yet.
11:31At least that's the word.
11:32So, I'm going with Sami Zayn winning that match.
11:35And that grudge match is long overdue.
11:37Should have happened three months ago.
11:38In the street fight, Rhea Ripley going against Raquel.
11:42Rhea Ripley easily, in my opinion, wins this.
11:44I don't see any reason to add to Raquel Rodriguez.
11:47Unless you see some interference from Roxanne, which they may do that just to further their alliance.
11:54I just hope Roxanne takes some bumps, doesn't change the finish outcome, and they can go on and do their tag team thing while Rhea moves on to something else.
12:02Because it's getting kind of laborious to see this keep going with the Judgment Day.
12:06The United States Championship match.
12:08Jacob Fatu, Solo Sokoa.
12:09I don't think there's any question here that Jacob Fatu should be the winner.
12:13The only thing that's funky, and I said I was going to get to this in a minute.
12:16I said I didn't want to jump the gun earlier.
12:18There is a WWE star who is not scheduled for United Champions who's there, and it relates to this match.
12:24Hikuleo is in Saudi Arabia.
12:26He's done a couple dark matches.
12:28A main event match and a dark match.
12:30He could get involved.
12:31It'll be interesting to see if he does.
12:32We'll have to wait and see.
12:34I still think Jacob Fatu keeps that United States Championship because he hasn't done a lot with it since winning it at WrestleMania.
12:40Jade Cargill and Asuka, the Queen of the Ring.
12:44I think it has to be Jade Cargill so they can get back on track with making her a champion very shortly.
12:49Heading into SummerSlam, she'll challenge and win that championship.
12:51Asuka doesn't need it, though I wouldn't mind if she won it.
12:54I think Asuka's doing great work.
12:55I'm glad to have her back.
12:56But I think this is for Jade to win to eventually have that blow-off match with Naomi one more time with the briefcase on the line.
13:03The men's final.
13:05Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton.
13:07In a lot of worlds I'd say Randy Orton, but right now I'm going to say Cody Rhodes
13:10because I think that's where he's going to get his return championship match against John Cena.
13:14Now, previously it was a championship match at SummerSlam.
13:17Maybe they pushed that off.
13:18Maybe he could get his championship opportunity when he chooses.
13:21That would be even better.
13:23And then he could take that match at the Ruthless Aggression pay-per-view at the end of the year and win the championship there.
13:30But I suspect it will be SummerSlam.
13:32And if it is SummerSlam, I do not think he regains the championship.
13:35And then the undisputed championship, John Cena has to win this.
13:39As much as I would love to see CM Punk be the guy to stop his reign of terror, I don't think it's going to happen.
13:44Certainly not after the punk life thing tonight.
13:47But it is going to be a fantastic match.
13:49Can't wait to see it.
13:50That is my predictions for the show.
13:53Other tidbits for the night.
13:54Evolution 2 around the corner.
13:56And word is there is a former WWE talent, AEW talent, former manager.
14:01A little bit of in-ring work coming back for the show possibly.
14:04That would be Vicky Guerrero.
14:06Her excuse me line would be perfect for Evolution 2.
14:08Not sure what they have for her.
14:09This is a one-off.
14:10Or if she's actually going to come back and do some things, I'd be open to either or.
14:14She really plays her role so well.
14:16It would be nice to see her.
14:17And we need more people in because there's a lot of people going out.
14:20Word this week about all these injuries.
14:22L.A. Knight recently added to the injury list, except he's not actually injured.
14:26It is pure storyline.
14:27However, Chad Gable and Liv Morgan, two of the more recent ones, to go along with others
14:32that are already out, people like Drew McIntyre, etc.
14:36Chad Gable, his injury apparently is taking him out for the foreseeable future.
14:41He's going to need surgery as well, as did Liv Morgan.
14:43Those are two heavy-duty injuries that are going to be foreseeable future many months.
14:47Live at least 16 weeks, if not more.
14:51Chad Gable, no timetable.
14:53But WWE definitely has the injury bug right now.
14:55Even Otis is hurt right now.
14:57Everybody seems to be getting hurt in WWE right now.
14:59So we'll have to wait and see how that plays out over time.
15:01But in the end, hopefully, they can get enough people healthy for a huge SummerSlam card that's around the corner.
15:08Moving into some other, Dave Meltzer talking about how he does not expect the recently returned Kota Ibushi to appear at All In Texas.
15:18That's kind of a surprise, especially with the premium match that he had on Dynamite.
15:22It would be really great to see him get involved.
15:25He could be in the Casino Battle Royal.
15:26I wouldn't be surprised if that happened.
15:28But otherwise, not in the cards for All In Texas.
15:30Shocking.
15:31Also not in the cards, at least currently, Keith Lee, who they've made very clear yet, gave an update this week on his career.
15:37He is healthy and ready to go.
15:39We're not sure why AEW hasn't brought him back.
15:41Last time he was in the ring, he was in a feud with Swerve Strickland that really never had a blow off.
15:47So they need to wrap that up somehow.
15:49He could come back as a heel and go after Swerve if they really wanted to.
15:52It's been that long.
15:53Curious to see where that ends up.
15:55Former TNA World Champion is about to be in a contract year.
15:59And we were talking about Steve Macklin, former WWE superstar, now in TNA.
16:03Did set a contract, a one-year deal last year.
16:05But his contract apparently is up this year as well.
16:08And it's looking like TNA is kind of turning into like a farm system for WWE all over the place.
16:13Because not only do we have to concern whether or not Steve Macklin will be signed,
16:17but Mike Santana, who had his WWE debut on NXT, was ranting and raving on Muscle Man Malcolm's show
16:25about his experience with WWE and how much he enjoyed being there.
16:28And that clearly, there's word out that WWE was very happy with him, very interested in him, and good for him.
16:34After everything that went down with LAX and everything else,
16:37it'd be great to see him get a shot as a single star somewhere very soon.
16:42I expect TNA, and then eventually, possibly, in WWE.
16:46And then the last thing we'll get to is for AEW, they have two major records,
16:50and it looks like they may break with All In Texas, almost a guarantee.
16:54They would be the largest gate non-WWE in North American history.
17:00They're already at 2.5 million generated at the gate, which will double what they did at Forbidden Door last year,
17:06which is their previous largest non-WWE gate in history.
17:09In addition, their attendance. The previous attendance record was their first-ever Grand Slam edition of AEW Dynamite in 2021,
17:18where they had 20,177 people. Right now, they're at 20,516.
17:24I apologize. 20,516 is what WCW Slavery 99 had.
17:29That is the current record for a non-WWE-attended pay-per-view.
17:33But this one, they already announced a total of 19,000 tickets sold, plus all the free tickets they gave away.
17:43They're going to shatter that record.
17:45So two records for AEW coming out of the weekend. Congrats to them.
17:49It just shows the growth in their company the last few years, and hopefully, they continue to do that going forward.
17:54That's all the time we have for this episode. Check back with us next episode.
