00:00Something's not right. My steering is pulling me massively to the right.
00:04Understood.
00:06So Liam Lawson there with steering issues.
00:09Just wondering if the wheel's not on properly here, Harry.
00:13How's that front left looking?
00:15I know the camera's slightly offset to the left, but...
00:18Yeah, he's certainly feeling something not right in the steering and that racing board.
00:23And that's he's wiggling the steering round from left to right down that back straight before turn four.
00:27If I let go of the steering, it goes hard right.
00:32Oh, yeah, look. It's locked up the right front completely there before turn four.
00:36So if something's seriously unhealthy on that racing board,
00:40is the engineering team looking desperately at the monitors,
00:44trying to suss out exactly what's going on.
00:46And this is Lance Stroll through the first quarter.
00:48And that's such a typical moment through turn one,
00:52where you're a little bit eager to get on power.
00:54He's on the hard tyre, so therefore the least grip you're going to have
00:57of these three compounds that Pirelli bring here.
01:00And it's that kind of moment.
01:03You put your foot down.
01:04You expect one thing from the car there.
01:05You're up and over the crest of that corner.
01:07Exactly. It is blowing the car on the exit of turn one.
01:10So that's probably what caught Stroll out,
01:13on top of the other factors of that corner that can typically catch you out as well.
01:16Fastest in the final set.
01:18Goes to the top for Oscar Piastri, 106, 129.
01:21Into the apex nicely.
01:23And that allows him to pick up the throttle.
01:24Let's have a look here.
01:25Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari.
01:28That's a pretty reasonable round, but the car looks heavy to me.
01:32Isaac Hadjar there.
01:33He looks like he's pushing on.
01:35We'll see what the lap time does.
01:37Land on this lap.
01:38No trip into the gravel.
01:39So this is a cleaner round.
01:41But it's just really impressive.
01:45Yeah, it's very easy to slash inside front.
01:47And it's impressive to me how few people are actually locking up.
01:51The gravel there, just looking on the outside.
01:54That's been brought in recently.
01:56A lot of energy to keep that lead.
01:58As we see Piastri through turn one.
02:01Another victim of that tailwind, I'm sure.
02:04But yeah, it's getting into a very interesting part of the year in that regard.
02:08Well, talking of Max Verstappen, I don't think he's emerged from the pits.
02:12Laurent McKees was referring to with...
02:13For some reason.
02:15I was at low pace, right?
02:18The struggles continue at Ferrari.
02:20It wasn't a great FP1 for Lewis Hamilton either.
02:22That's disappointment.
02:24Disappointing for Ferrari fans as well out there.
02:26The set-up work you have to do with the differentials.
02:28As there is Charles Leclerc off.
02:31Is that on the exit of turn six?
02:32Yes, it is.
02:34Leclerc.
02:35A little moment for him.
02:37So what Lewis Hamilton is saying about no pace.
02:39Well, Charles, no grip through turn six.
02:43As we see through turn three.
02:46Wow.
02:47The rear just really letting go on initial turning into there.
02:51I mentioned the difficulties of that particular corner.
02:54But here's turn six.
02:55This is where he went through the gravel at high speed.
02:57And again, the rear stepping out.
02:59But this time at a very different speed range compared to that of turn three.
03:03And dear, oh dear.
03:05That is, I mean, you've got now the problem of trying to work the car and rework the balance in a slow speed corner.
03:12And high speed corners has absolutely really caught out.
03:17Is that the recovering Leclerc from turn three?
03:19It is, isn't it?
03:20Wait, what is going on with these people, honestly?
03:23It was it?
03:24No.
03:24Is that Lewis?
03:24That's Lewis.
03:26Wow.
03:26Meandering towards the racing line at slow speed.
03:30And Lewis, I'm sure, will put his hand up for that one.
03:33He's looking in the mirror as well.
03:34We see he's coming, but.
03:36Yeah, I could see it's nearly all awesome.
03:39I thought I'd see the hand go up.
03:41That's, Lewis knows that he's done the wrong thing there.
03:44And yeah, he's, he says he couldn't see him.
03:47Again, through the final corner we go.
03:50Keeps it neat and tidy.
03:51And it's another good lap by Russell, but can't quite topple that of Lando Norris' medium tyre run.
03:59Surprisingly, what's Lando been up to in one?
04:04Looks okay.
04:07Oh, that's an interesting decision to go on the inside.
04:10I wouldn't have, I wouldn't have, it's not the line I would have chosen.
04:13But I think, did he go for a toe and then, then just decide to go even further left?
04:20But Verstappen was offline.
04:23He was, and then that's really caught him by surprise.
04:27What the hell?
04:28Straight to the left.
04:30Because there is technically, it's not a straight, is it?
04:33It kinks to the left and then you go to the left as you head up the hill.
04:38Well, let's see.
04:39Maybe he just meant washout in terms of understeer.
04:42That might be his terminology.
04:44Wow.
04:44And that's Antonelli kicking up the gravel.
04:47Still on the soft tyre.
04:49Makes his way round the final corner.
04:52Let's see what this does for George Russell.
04:54As he comes to the line, puts him back up in that P1 position.
04:59Two tenths clear of Lando Norris.
05:01He's hanging on, there's so much g-force, pushing on the body, crosses the line to go almost five tenths faster than that of George Russell.
05:10Now Norris responding to what his teammate has said in terms of the fastest laps.
05:16Two fastest first sector and second sector overall.
05:19Looks good through turn nine exit.
05:22Leaves nothing on the table on the exit of the final corner.
05:25And almost two tenths advantage over Piastri.
05:28Not bad when you consider the lack of track time he's had.
05:32It's intimidating.
05:33It forces you as a driver to raise the levels.
05:37You see Hülkenberg getting all crossed up in turn one.
05:40Forces you as a driver to...
05:42You can't relax into it enough.
05:45And quite often, there's that old saying of slow is fast, you have to have the confidence in yourself to drive how you want to drive, to let the car do the work.
05:57And that was Norris running wide, actually.
06:00Was that a piece of the floor getting damaged on the exit curb there?
06:03Or was it just kicking up something that was already there?
06:06But either way, just using all and more of what the racetrack has to offer.
06:12So this is the exit of six.
06:13To watch the dust get kicked up here from Behrman.
06:17And he had to lift.
06:18Did he hear the lift as well as soon as it went on?
06:20This would be a good shot.
06:21Wow.
06:23No, Lenz lives to fight another day.
06:25More importantly.
06:28Yeah, that is way too far over.
06:30Finding a little bit more performance, but still nowhere near where they or Alonso and indeed Adrian Newey now working on next year's car expects them to be.
06:42It's Kimi Antonelli having to run out wide coming uphill.
06:45Yeah, it looked like he was just fumbling around on the steering wheel there on one of the middle rotors at the bottom of the wheel and taking your eyes off the road.
06:51You listen to the whole most radio.
06:53Yeah, not feeling the love.
06:55Somehow a lot of the front is not really gripping many places.
07:01It's not nice when you don't feel the bite from the tyre.
07:04Yeah, when you don't feel the, they call it the tack from the tyre.
07:08Yeah, struggling along the front now.
07:11Yeah, understood.
07:14So that's not bad.
07:15Yeah, after he's done six laps on these soft tyres in this particular run.
07:21These tyres like to run on their own rubber.
07:23And you'll get a lot of that during the race on Sunday, of course.
07:26So Kimi Antonelli here in the Mercedes carrying that lock up as Karuna saying, standing down at turn four.
07:34Very envious of him, by the way, standing down at that brilliant corner.
07:40There's something broken on the cars.
07:43Disastrous turn one, turn six.
07:46All over the place.
07:48Okay, understood.
07:50Yeah, I think something is broken on the floor or something.
07:53Okay, understood.
07:54We're looking through everything still, but still don't see anything at the moment.
07:59So by that, the engineers are able to see the pushrod loads that the car will carry, all the sensors on board.
08:08And if you've got any kind of damage to aerodynamic surfaces on the car, you'll see the pushrod loads drop off slightly.
08:15And therefore, they'll see some aero losses.
08:18But the driver's definitely feeling something not right.
08:20And turn one looks uncomfortable.
08:24It's over that sausage curve, isn't it?
08:25Well, you always will.
08:26Norris again is coming in live out of our commentary box window, bouncing over it as they are the world champions.
08:34So they will be the first pit.
08:35Oh, so that was not the start Max Verstappen would have quite liked.
08:39No, and you don't usually start the race with tyres that have got, what has he got on them, well over 20 laps.
08:45Free practice to the last hour of running that our 20 drivers will get for the day.
08:52And it is a McLaren 1-2 with Lando Norris, fastest ahead of Oscar Piastri.
09:03Nothing splitting them.
09:04A tenth of a second with Max Verstappen for the three tenths back in third for Red Bull.
09:11So McLaren pulling that advantage in FP2, but long run pace as well.
09:16Certainly the order of the day to look at.
09:17Lance Stroll up in fourth.
09:19Charles Leclerc in fifth, ahead of George Russell, who topped FP1.
09:22Tsunoda still getting up to speed with his Red Bull.
09:26Portoleto with another top ten appearance in FP2 ahead of Alonso.
09:30Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top ten, having said he had absolutely no pace at the beginning of this session.
09:37And Kimi Antonelli, 11th ahead of Liam Lawson, who did manage to get back out on track after early troubles ahead of his teammate Hadjar.
09:44Gasly with problems too towards the end with Ocon.
09:47The two Williams of Albon and Sainz.
09:49Behrman, Nico Hülkenberg, 19th.
09:51And bringing up the rear was the Alpine of Franco Coller-Pinz.
