00:00Since Arne Schlott took the helm at Anfield, Liverpool's summer transfer activity has signalled a bold new chapter
00:10and the signing of Florian Wurtz stands out as a major statement of intent.
00:15Following a Premier League winning campaign, Liverpool are making it clear that they're not just aiming to defend their crown,
00:22but to evolve and strengthen within position.
00:25Wurtz's arrival highlights the club's ambition to blend youthful flair with tactical intelligence,
00:32perfectly fitting Schlott's vision for an adaptable and dynamic squad.
00:36This move isn't just about adding quality, it signals Liverpool's intent to compete at the very highest level,
00:43balancing creativity, versatility and depth across the team.
00:48With this signing, Liverpool are sending a message they're serious about sustained success
00:52and ready to invest in players who can drive the team forward for years to come.
00:58We caught up with Will Rooney of Liverpool World to break down how Wurtz fits into Liverpool's transfer strategy
01:04and what his arrival means for the squad's title defence and long-term ambitions.
01:09So, Will, Florian Wurtz signing for Liverpool, an incredible fee, a record that Liverpool have paid,
01:18a record in the Premier League for a player to come over, an incredible few seasons on the bounce-up by Leverkusen.
01:25He's a player that's been flirting around, being one of these next wonder kids, these young players.
01:31Firstly, your thoughts on the signing.
01:34I mean, it's obviously been a while since Liverpool have splashed this amount of cash
01:40in terms of being linked with players.
01:43They've finally broken that boundary and gone for three figures like the likes of Chelsea have in previous seasons as well.
01:50So, what's your thoughts on Florian Wurtz?
01:52How excited are Liverpool fans with this new addition?
01:56Yeah, I think it's a real statement signing, to be honest with you.
01:58I think when Wurtz was first linked, people were sort of saying, well, that's not going to happen
02:07because even though Liverpool are Premier League champions, everyone's accepted that additions and eases,
02:13but attack on midfield wasn't really one of them this summer.
02:17You know, you've got Dominic Sabosla, he was favoured there, you've got Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott,
02:21Jota can play there, but clearly Liverpool's seen this as a chance to sign an absolute top, top prospect.
02:33And Liverpool have missed out on some of them, obviously, Jude Bellingham being one of them,
02:37you know, missed out on Kai Seydal and Chouameni went to Real Madrid.
02:43And Liverpool have managed to beat Bayern Munich and Manchester City to a player who is, you know,
02:52many people realize is the best player in Germany.
02:54And I think that's why maybe Liverpool have moved forward, because some players, it doesn't matter if you don't need that player,
03:02sometimes you just can't pass up the opportunity to sign a real top class player.
03:09And that's what he is, £100 million, a club record.
03:12But it feels like the last one that Liverpool signed of De Silva was maybe, you know,
03:18an Alison Becker or maybe a Virgil van Dijk.
03:22And it shows that Liverpool are really diamond at the top table now.
03:25Now they've made some fantastic signs, you know, Salah, Sadio Mane, you know.
03:31But at the time that they were signed, would every single club in the world have jumped to have signed them?
03:38Or would there have been a couple of hesitations around him?
03:41But Florian Wirtz is different.
03:44And as you said, where will he play now for Liverpool?
03:47Now, his favourite position is the number 10 role.
03:50Talks about Dominic Suboslay, because Suboslay, maybe some sports were disappointed with his attack and output at times.
03:58But he covered so much ground to allow Mo Salah to stay up the pitch high and do the damage from there.
04:04And look at the season he had.
04:06But if you're paying £100 million and surely Dominic Suboslay, I know he's probably going to be coming in as the number 10 he had.
04:14Does Arna Slough potentially play two number 10s and, you know, utilise a false striker?
04:20He did that at Manchester City where Liverpool won in the middle of the season.
04:25Florian Wirtz, he can play the false nine.
04:28He can play wide.
04:30Really know where to play.
04:32But Liverpool have quite clearly got a plan for Florian Wirtz and I think it will be prominent to see where he's going to play after the first few games in pre-season.
