00:00Hi guys and welcome to DriveSpark and in today's news we're going to talk about a very important
00:04factor specially for two-wheelers. Now the Transport Ministry has approved mandatory ABS
00:09for two-wheelers and also helmets. In a major step to improve road safety, the government will
00:15make ABS mandatory for all new two-wheelers. Buyers will also get two new helmets with every
00:21new bike or scooter purchase starting January 2026. Now all the two-wheelers sold in India
00:27including scooters and motorcycles will require to have anti-lock brake system that is ABS
00:32installed regardless of the size of the bike or the size of the engine. The Ministry of Road Transport
00:38and Highway has announced that this new safety requirement is a part of a broader strategy to
00:44reduce the injuries and fatalities. Now currently ABS is only mandatory for two-wheelers with engine
00:50size exceeding 125cc which means that approximately 40% of the two-wheelers are not equipped with this
00:56safety feature that is ABS. Now what exactly is ABS? ABS as I mentioned is anti-lock braking system.
01:02It helps prevent the wheel from locking when the rider suddenly applies the brake forcefully. Now
01:08this feature also allows the rider to maintain control of the vehicle in decreasing the speed
01:12and the risk of skidding and crashing especially during the monsoon seasons when the roads are absolutely
01:19wet. A study has shown that the ABS can reduce the likelihood of a crash by 35 to 45%.
01:25Now in addition to the ABS the government will also make it compulsory to provide two BIS certified
01:31helmets at the time of purchase of every new two-wheeler. Currently only one helmet is required
01:36and now this step aims to improve the safety for the rider as well as the passenger. So two helmets
01:41will be compulsory from January 2026. The introduction of these changes is in response to the road safety
01:48issues. Two-wheeler users make up about 44% of all road deaths in India and many of these deaths occur
01:55because of head injuries resulting while not wearing a helmet. The ministry will soon issue
02:00official notice about these rules. If implemented these changes could make the Indian roads a bit
02:06safer for millions of two-wheelers across the country. So yeah starting January 2026 ABS will be
02:13mandatory for all two-wheelers and if you're gonna buy a vehicle or a scooter from January 2026 you will get
02:20two helmets as well for you and your passenger because the government wants you to be safe on
02:25the road. So if you like this video give it a thumbs up if you have any questions regarding this
02:30mention on the comment section and we will get back to you on that. Until then I'm Prameet signing out
02:35see you next time thank you so much for watching take care be safe and ride safe
