The number of people forcibly displaced by war, violence, and persecution worldwide has reached 122.1 million as of April 2025, marking the tenth consecutive year of increase, according to the latest UNHCR Global Trends report.

00:14This marks the 10th consecutive year of increase.
00:17The report states that the number of internally displaced persons or IDPs reached 73.5 million, while refugees who fled abroad stood at 42.7 million.
00:31Sudan now faces the world's largest displacement crisis with 14.3 million refugees and IDPs, followed by Syria with 13.5 million and Afghanistan with 10.3 million.
00:43The UNHCR also reported that 60% of those forced to flee never leave their own country, and that 73% of the world's refugees are hosted by low- and middle-income countries.
00:55According to the report, while the number of forcibly displaced people has nearly doubled over the past decade, funding for the UN Refugee Agency remains roughly the same as in 2015.
