00:00This could be the biggest transformation to hit South Bristol in a generation.
00:06Plans for a brand new sporting quarter next to Ashton Gate have taken a major step forward.
00:13A fresh application has now landed on the desks of Bristol City Council,
00:18asking planners to greenlight the next phase of the development and to clear the way for demolition to begin.
00:26What's coming?
00:27A 5,000 capacity indoor arena set to become the new home of the Bristol Flyers basketball team,
00:35as well as the largest indoor venue for concerts and conferences in the city.
00:40But that's just the start.
00:42The multi-million pound scheme also includes a hotel, offices, a multi-story car park and hundreds of new homes.
00:49In fact, 510 homes will be built nearby at a site now called Longmore Village.
00:57Land where Steve Lansdowne originally hoped to relocate Ashton Gate over 15 years ago.
01:04That part of the plan faced legal battles and lengthy delays,
01:08with a judicial review challenge from a local waste company eventually thrown out.
01:14Now things are finally moving again.
01:16The first phase will begin with the demolition of the empty Wits building and others between the stadium and Winterstoke Road.
01:25Work is expected to start early in the new year.
01:29The developers will also cover over Colleter's Brook to protect it from nearby construction.
01:36Next comes development at the southern end of the site, near South Bristol Retail Park,
01:41with the new car park, sports and conference centre.
