A Bristol brewery has raised more than half a million pounds for community projects across the city—by simply selling beer. Bristol Beer Factory launched its Brewed to Give initiative last year, promising 2% of every sale to local causes.

00:00and there's an awful lot of pressure on pubs at the moment um so the more we can do in that
00:05category around caspia and it's beer in its purest form and its natural form um so that's
00:12a big focus for us as a business in bristol community groups such as talk club who help
00:17to fund mental fitness initiatives and co-exist community kitchen who support marginalized
00:22communities through cooking are working tirelessly the community spirit of offering a helping hand
00:28to one another is something we have come to know and love about the city but tough times for all can
00:35bring with them unprecedented challenges seeing what is happening around them bristol beer factory
00:42decided it was their time to give back to the community we met up with their team to hear about
00:47the difference they hope to make the support includes cash donations cost price beer free
00:54venue hire and hands-on help with fundraising from school raffles to mental health program
00:59so back in 2023 bristol beer factory launched brew to give and in a nutshell it's a self-imposed
01:07community tax it's our way of giving back to bristol who made us who we are who have supported us the
01:15whole way and it's our way to really recognize that without bristol without our community
01:21um we can't thrive and likewise bristol needs us right now so we give two percent of every brewery sale
01:28back to bristol and enable communities community groups charities good causes to effectively flip our
01:37donation which is beer uh into cash which they can do at fundraising events could bear be a viable
01:45funding model for local charities in bristol it already is the brood to give initiative by bristol
01:51beer factory has generated over half a million pounds for organizations in just over two years but it's
01:59not just about writing checks it's a model that's flipping how corporate social responsibility can look
02:05and promoting bigger questions about what local businesses can do when they put community at the
02:11center of their projects two years you have raised over half a million pounds for local charities
02:19what what is this doing for for the smaller charities who perhaps would not have had that opportunity
02:24otherwise well we're really hoping we make an incredible difference um this is why we're doing
02:30brew to give to give those charities a chance to survive and to thrive and do what they do well
02:35it's a shame there are any charities in the world really isn't it we shouldn't need them in a
02:39country as wealthy as we are but that isn't the case um as you know it's a fragile climate
02:46we need to support it we're going to continue to support it our pledge is two percent of our previous
02:51year's turnover that will not change we will deliver continue to deliver to support the communities of our
02:57city
