Soca Warriors face Costa Rica in CONCACAF World Cup qualifier.

West Indies lose 3rd T20 to England.

And the finals of the Sunshine Snack Squash Championships.
Transcript
00:00Well get ready buckaroos because it's a top of the table shootout as Costa Rica and TNT go head-to-head tonight in their final CONCACAF World Cup qualifying Group B fixture at the Estadio Nacional.
00:26Well a draw for TNT will see them cement their place in the final rung to join the Costa Ricans while a victory would see them top the group.
00:34Well the SoCo Warriors are unbeaten in their last eight World Cup qualifying fixtures dating back to the 2018 cycle and have not lost a qualification affair as the visitors since October 2017.
00:45Well don't get too excited because Los Ticos meanwhile have also won six consecutive matches versus the Warriors and have never lost a World Cup qualifying contest against TNT.
00:56Earlier today Grenada joined TNT on seven points and are eliminated unless TNT loses the match by more than six goals.
01:08Operation don't concede six.
01:10Alright I'll tell you what though it's a clean sweep in cricket as England netted a record score on home soil to beat the West Indies by 37 runs and whitewashed the series 3-0.
01:20Rothman Powell smashed a battling 79 nut out as the Windies went in pursuit of England's Mammoth 248 for 3 but they fell short losing by 37 runs.
01:32England were put into bat by the West Indies in the third and final T20 in Southampton.
01:36Openers Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett gave the home team a solid start.
01:47They were scoring rapidly and their stand was worth 120 in 8.5 overs.
01:52Nailed, absolutely nailed, first ball.
01:56The left-handed Duckett was the top scorer with 84 while Smith was next best with 60.
02:03Well the bowler ducking for cover.
02:05Duckett was bowled by Akeel Hussain who took one for 42 from his four overs.
02:09Bowling round his legs, brilliantly done from Akeel Hussain.
02:12None of the other bowlers were spared with captain Harry Brook getting an unbeaten 35.
02:16And Jacob Bethel made 36 not out of just 16 balls.
02:24England closed on a daunting 248 for 3 from 20 overs.
02:28In reply, the West Indies had it tough with both openers out cheaply.
02:33Deepman wicket, circling.
02:36Takes it.
02:38Shimron Hetmeier played a cameo by getting 26 of just 8 balls.
02:42That one is sailing over the fence.
02:45But wickets were falling and it soon became 70 for 4.
02:52Captain Shehope was among the runs but missed out on a half century by getting 45.
03:00Adil Rashid took his second wicket when he sent Romario Shepard packing for note.
03:07Former captain Ravman Powell was the only West Indian to score a half century.
03:11Pulled away and pulled away immensely hard.
03:15But it did not matter as Luke Wood did major damage with three wickets.
03:20Not a chance.
03:24Powell made 79 not out of 45 balls.
03:27But the Wendy's were restricted to 211 for 8 and lost by 37 runs to be swept 3-0.
03:34There's a little bit of a loss for the West Indies.
03:37Well, I'll tell you what, they've called in the cavalry as Jamaican John Campbell and Shea Hope are back in the West Indies test side for the series against Australia later this month.
03:46Well, that's after a lengthy absence from the longest format.
03:49Well, the duo are part of a 16-man squad named by the Windies for the three tests starting June 25th in Barbados.
03:56The upcoming series between West Indies and Australia in the Caribbean signals the start of the 2025 to 2027 ICC test championship cycle.
04:07Guyanese cricketer Kevlon Anderson and Jamaican Brandon King have made the cut in the 16-man squad which sees John Campbell and Shea Hope returning at test level after a long absence.
04:18The full squad is Skipper Austin Chase, Vice-Captain Jamel Warrickon, Kevlon Anderson, Craig Brathwaite, John Campbell, Casey Carty, Justin Graves, Shea Hope, Tevin Imlac, Al-Zari Joseph, Shemar Joseph, Brandon King, Johan Lane, Mikhai Louie, Anderson Phillip and Jaden Seals.
04:40Coach Darren Sammy says,
04:42Well, it's a shock I heard around the world as the retirement of Nicholas Puran, well, it has left the West Indies cricketing world in a bit of a shambles.
05:09And cricket analyst Fazir Mohamed says it's a reflection of the state of West Indies cricket.
05:15Well, even though Mohamed says the real reason is unknown, he believes that retiring at the age of 29 with a lot to offer is quite baffling.
05:24It's inevitable that many would provide their views after Nicholas Puran announced his retirement from international cricket.
05:30That includes top cricket analyst Fazir Mohamed, who says the diminutive left-handed batsman is going to be missed.
05:35Nicholas Puran's decision to retire from West Indies duty, essentially in all formats, although of course he is primarily a white ball cricketer, is a loss because of his tremendous ability, his potential, his tendency to really change the course of a match with spectacular innings.
05:56At the same time, Mohamed is aware that Puran's average in T20 internationals is 26.14 from 106 appearances.
06:04On the other hand, his ODI average is a healthier 39.66 from 61 matches.
06:10But Puran last appeared in the longer of the two white ball formats in July 2023.
06:15As such, the Trinidad-based cricket analyst feels Puran has not lived up to his potential.
06:20When you look at his record as far as influencing results for the West Indies, it really isn't as effective as one would have hoped.
06:30The fact is that the spectacular innings of Nicholas Puran in between some rather ordinary performances means that at the end of the day, he has not really impacted West Indies' performances on a consistently upward trend.
06:46Mohamed says the explosive batter's absence from the team is not going to make a difference in terms of results.
06:53He says even though a reason for Puran's retirement is yet to be given, it shows where West Indies cricket has reached.
07:00When you have someone at the age of 29 who is essentially in the prime of his cricketing life to leave the game, to leave West Indies cricket and focus on the franchise formats, as lucrative as it is,
07:14for such a thing to happen suggests that there's something going on in the background of West Indies cricket.
07:20There is that feeling that many of these franchise players are disaffected in some way or the other in their relationship with Cricket West Indies,
07:30not just this administration or the previous one, but definitely the one before that as well, going all the way back to the Dave Cameron administration.
07:38Puran last appeared in a T20 international in December 2024, which saw the West Indies losing the series to Bangladesh in the Caribbean.
07:47So could that be part of the reason for such a decision?
07:49There were certainly some rumblings along the way towards the end of last year and that disappointing run towards the end of last year
07:57and the 3-0 whitewash at the hands of Bangladesh, which suggested that something wasn't right,
08:04whether it involved Nicholas Puran directly or the composition of the team or the administration or the hierarchy of the team,
08:13including the coach and the captain, we can only be speculating.
08:16But the feeling was that there was something that wasn't happening the right way.
08:21Based on all this, Mohamed is by no means shocked following Puran's decision to retire, but says it's very disappointing.
08:30Vinod Nawani, Teef6 Sport.
08:32Well, let's climb the ladder where it seems that age is just a number, as the Tobago Over 50 Cricket Fiesta took place recently.
08:40Well, there were eight teams taking part, with AMA Sports Services of Barbados winning the tournament.
08:47The Tobago Over 50 Cricket Fiesta, hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Patriots, successfully concluded recently after a week of cricket matches filled with competition and camaraderie.
08:57The tournament welcomed veteran players aged 50 and above from Trinidad, Tobago and Barbados.
09:03A total of eight teams participated in it, with AMA Sports Services Barbados coming out on top, taking second spot with Tobago Legends, while Fulham Sports Club came third.
09:15And Tobago Strikers Touring Team placed fourth.
09:17The remaining teams that participated were Patriots, Idris Marketing, NAS Masters, Jaguars Sports Club, and Trinidad and Tobago Patriots.
09:27The purpose of the event was to create positive change through sport.
09:31Vinod Nawani, Teef6 Sport.
09:34Well, let's stay in Tobago, where it welcomes us with a bountiful harvest of football, as it was a good weekend for Patience Hill youths,
09:42as they came away with a 3-1 victory over Georgia in the Mason Hall Police Youth League.
09:47Raquel Williams was the star for Patience Hill, as he scored twice in the victory.
09:53Georgia in the Orange Tops and Patience Hill in Blue were hoping to pick up the W in the second weekend of action.
10:00And Patience Hill didn't have to wait very long to break the ice.
10:09Despite going behind, the Patience Hill keeper was kept busy.
10:12While he was preserving the lead, Raquel Williams extended it as he notched his second.
10:23But Patience Hill's 2-0 halftime lead was down to the brilliance of Nico James in goal.
10:29Jaheim Tony would eventually squeeze one past James for Georgia in the second half.
10:34Patience Hill, though, would have a chance to restore their 2-0 lead, but that chance from the spot would be wasted.
10:48Raheim Williams would not waste his chance, though, as he scored to give Patience Hill a 3-1 win over Georgia.
10:54All right, let's squash that as the Queen's Spark Cricket Club came alive when the finals of the Sunshine Snack Squash Championships,
11:10where it was a day to remember for Chase McQuinn and Rhea Khan, who won the senior titles at the tournament.
11:17Eyes are fixed on something.
11:21What could be so enticing that demands their attention so?
11:25It was time for the finals of the Sunshine Snack Squash Championships.
11:30Chase McQuinn versus Seth Thong in the final for the senior national title.
11:36McQuinn has been playing the sport semi-professionally,
11:38and now it seems he has come of age after boasting of a strong record of regional and international competition.
11:45The audience was in on it, eating up the end-to-end action.
11:50Until McQuinn won the title 11-5, 6-11, 11-6, 11-5.
11:56Rhea Khan won the women's title.
11:58Then came the turn of the novices.
12:00When Mac went on to win the trophy,
12:02they watched him play like they were seeing the game for the very first time.
12:06Gia Garan won the girls' novice title.
12:16Love for the sport grows old, and as the numbers add up over time,
12:20men's over-60 champion Richard Hart was cashing in on the title.
12:31He's agile and, from the looks of it, dominant.
12:34The open plate winners were Aneer Ramdean and Ross Dejuran.
12:40Congratulations to all the participants.
12:42Sergio Dufour, TV6 Sport.
12:44Well, it's time to catch up with some TNT athletes,
12:47as swimmer Nikolai Blackman has been having a hectic season,

13:21He'll be swimming out of Lean 5.
13:28Well, he was the only one in action,
13:30as TNT's Leah Bertrand will be hoping to do something
13:33that she hasn't done before.
13:34Bertrand will be aiming to win the women's 100 and 200 meter
13:38at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
13:42Well, Bertrand qualified for the tournament
13:44after running 22.71 in the 200 meters
13:46and 10.99 seconds in the 100 meters of the quarterfinal.
13:52This is a fourth time competing at the NCAA,
13:55and she's hoping to take home the win.
13:57The Ohio State athlete will be competing
13:59in Heat 2 of the 100 and 200 meters.
14:04TNT's Reese Webster, meanwhile, missed out on a spot
14:07after placing fifth in Heat 2 of the women's 100 meter quarterfinals
14:11with a time of 11.33 seconds.
14:15Reese Webster is or has been battling injury.
14:20All right, buckle up.
14:21This could go from 0 to 100 really quickly
14:25as Spain took home the victory in the New York SEAL GP,
14:29while a Spaniard won motorbiking MotoGP in Oregon
14:31as Marc Marquez extended his championship lead.
14:35And not even hitting a tree could prevent Sebastian Ogier
14:40from winning the Sardinia leg of the World Rally Championship.
14:44To New York City's Hudson River,
14:45where defending champions Spain have won the latest stop
14:48on the SAIL GP Tour.
14:49With the boats reaching up to 72 kilometers per hour,
14:52they edged out New Zealand and France
14:54to make it back-to-back wins
14:55after taking the last race in San Francisco.
14:58It moved Spain to the top of the championship.
15:01Spain celebrating in SAIL GP and MotoGP
15:04as Marc Marquez won his fourth race of the season,
15:07with the victory extending his lead in the World Championship.
15:10The Ducati rider finishing ahead of his brother Alex

15:14Marquez is targeting his seventh world title
15:16and first since 2019.
15:21And despite hitting a tree on the final stage,

15:29Current world title leader Elvin Evans finished fourth.
15:32Ogier of France is now just 19 points behind his Welsh rival
15:35in the overall standings.
15:38All right, no rest for the wicked as the season.
15:41Well, it is far from over for most professional footballers
15:45as teams are converging on the United States

15:50And MLS club LAFC will take their hot form into the competition.
15:55Egyptian team Al-Akri have arrived in Florida
15:58for the FIFA Club World Cup.
15:59They play Lionel Messi's Inter-Miami in the opening game.
16:03Al-Akri are one of four African sides
16:05that will compete in the revamped 32-team tournaments.
16:09I don't think it's possible to get prepared to play against Messi.
16:12You just have to try to be disciplined on the day.
16:17But once the ball is with him,
16:18it's going to be, as usually,
16:20a player that is going to have a special attention.
16:23But I think that he's used to be under a special attention
16:26during his whole career.
16:26It is a good collective, it's a good team, a good coach.
16:32So, yeah, we're going to be ready.
16:34Los Angeles FC are in good form
16:36ahead of their first appearance at the tournaments
16:38that they came back to beat Sporting Kansas City 3-1

16:54Well, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick.
16:58All the boxes are ticked for this play of the day trip.
17:03England defeated the West Indies in the final T20
17:05with Will Jacks taking a good catch
17:07to get rid of Gudakesh Moti.
17:11Playing in Southampton,
17:13where the Caribbean men lost by 37 runs,
17:15Moti looked to smash one from Luke Wood
17:17only for Jacks to cover some ground
17:19and take a brilliant catch.
17:22Will Jacks makes good ground
17:23and makes that look a very simple catch.
17:26Well done to Jacks for that wonderful piece of fielding
17:28which earns him tonight's TV6 playoff today.
17:33Well, I guess that makes him a jack of all trades.
17:36All right, that's it for Sporting for the team.
17:37I'm Jim Sondas.
