Do the #Redsox need a new 'voice'?
Is Cora "burnt out"? Is there a divide in who has final say?
Transcript
00:00There's got to come a time and point where ownership goes,
00:03all right, Cora has struggled with getting this team
00:09to where they need to be for a long time.
00:12And maybe it's time for a new voice in there.
00:17Breslow and Cora.
00:18A new voice, like no disrespect to anybody,
00:21is not going to change the pitiful Grapefruit League lineup
00:25that you had in that baseball game last night.
00:27Well, you want good news?
00:28Roman Anthony hit a bomb.
00:30Last night for the Blue Sox.
00:31Well, maybe a new voice says, you know what?
00:33We're bringing up Anthony.
00:34We're putting him in the lineup.
00:36Maybe that's what a new voice does.
00:37But Cora, I'm sure, wants Roman Anthony in the lineup.
00:41Yeah.
00:42That would be like treating him like you treated Mayo.
00:44It's like, wait, you're going to fire me and bring up the guy
00:46that I've been begging for all along?
00:48But there's no way.
00:49Because I hear Cora talking on the afternoon show,
00:52and he kind of was like, Breslow, not going to rush up Anthony.
00:58So, I mean...
00:59That's coming from the top, though.
01:01I think that...
01:02But there's no way.
01:03There's no way people are going to tell me this.
01:05Because you wouldn't do it with Belichick.
01:08You wouldn't do it with...
01:10Belichick had final say over the roster.
01:11Like, but you wouldn't do it with guys.
01:15I believe Cora has maybe not final say,
01:19but has a lot of juice when it comes to who he wants up,
01:25free agent signings.
01:27I think that Cora has a...
01:29Because he...
01:29Well, who do you think had the ultimate say
01:32when it came to Christian Campbell
01:34being on this team on opening day?
01:37I think that Cora and Breslow worked together.
01:40I think it was Craig Breslow.
01:42Because he was willing to agree to a deal
01:44that was a team-friendly deal.
01:47Right.
01:47And they wanted to reward it.
01:48Right.
01:49But there's no way you're going to tell me
01:51that Cora's one of the best managers
01:52before he does his extension.
01:55And Courtney brings this up as a great point.
01:57Before he does his extension,
01:59and him come back and go,
02:01because he had the kind of bumpy road with Heinblum,
02:05and re-sign or do an extension
02:08knowing that he doesn't have power
02:10to make things happen.
02:11There's no...
02:12You can't tell me that about Cora now
02:14when you're like,
02:15every team wants him.
02:16Right.
02:17He's the best manager out there.
02:18I think I was wrong.
02:19I mean, in hindsight, clearly.
02:21I mean, if he doesn't have the power
02:23about how long Garrett Crochet goes
02:25at 85 pitches,
02:27then I'm sorry,
02:28he doesn't have the power I thought he did.
02:31If you can't dictate the starting pitcher
02:33but I think he does have the power,
02:35but he also buys into a pitch count.
02:39Oh, I don't think that...
02:40If it was up to Alex Cora,
02:41there is no shot in hell
02:43he takes Crochet out...
02:44Did you hear him?
02:45Does he have the power
02:46to remind the guy
02:47to tag up on second base
02:49with a fly ball to the outfield?
02:51You would think he would.
02:52He talked about the Crochet thing.
02:54I think Fitzy might have asked him
02:56the question about this.
02:57The Crochet and the 85 pitches.
02:59It's...
02:59It's...
