00:00Big news for bus passengers right here in the city of Bristol.
00:04Cleaner, greener journeys are just around the corner.
00:07Local Transport Minister Simon Lightwood was in town to officially open the brand new,
00:13fully electric Hengrove bus depot.
00:16It's part of a £44 million project led by First Bus with over £6.5 million of government support.
00:24And it means 74 zero-emission buses will soon be hitting the streets of Bristol.
00:31But that's not all. This is part of a wider drive across the west of England.
00:35Thanks to a £28 million investment, over 250 electric buses are on their way to our region,
00:43with nearly 100 already in service.
00:47The funding is part of the government's plan for change,
00:51which aims to boost local economies, create greener jobs and clean up our air.
00:58And with over £120 million in private investment unlocked nationwide,
01:04this isn't just about buses, it's about building a more sustainable future for the city of Bristol.
01:10The ribbon-cutting at Hengrove was also attended by the newly elected mayor of the west of England,
01:16Helen Godwin, who called the new fleet a game-changer for passengers,
01:21with phone chargers at every seat and a fully electric fleet expected by next summer.
01:27And with a new bus service bill on the horizon, passengers can look forward to more reliable routes.
01:34Whether you're commuting, heading into town or just out for a ride,
01:39bus travel in Bristol is about to get a whole lot cleaner, greener and better connected.
