00:28And in Argentina, the Fuerza Patria Coalition condemns President Javier Millet's policies during the closing of the campaign for the October 26 legislative elections.
00:46Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:51We begin with Anissa, stay with us.
00:58The World Health Organization reported that the death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 89 since the ceasefire was declared on October 11.
01:18The organization stated that 317 people were injured after the ceasefire was announced, adding that the crisis in the Gaza Strip is far from over while the needs of the population are enormous.
01:30The Director General revealed that the World Health Organization had evacuated 41 critically ill patients and 141 accompanying people from the enclave for the first time since the ceasefire agreement on October 10, after Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas accepted the peace agreement, which included the return of Israeli hostages, both living and dead, and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
01:58And in this context, a quarter of the population in the Gaza Strip is suffering from hunger due to the Israeli blockade, according to the United Nations Population Fund.
02:13The executive director of the organization, Andrew Sabaton emphasized the extreme vulnerability of women, many of whom have lost everything and lack access to basic personal hygiene items.
02:26The situation is critical for the more than 11,500 pregnant women affected by the food crisis, which Sabaton described as a serious disaster.
02:37As for aid, the officials said that the shipments that managed to enter Gaza after the ceasefire were absolutely insufficient.
02:44However, the fund plans to deliver critical medical supplies such as incubators, health monitors and products for safe childbirth.
02:59In other information, in Lebanon, at least two people were killed and several injured after a new series of Israeli bombings against civilian infrastructure in the east of the country in a flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreements by Israel.
03:14According to reports from the authorities, the attacks were concentrated in mountainous areas near Shemustar and the other west region of Baalbek.
03:23The impact of the explosions affected civilian infrastructure, including schools, where several students were injured by glass shards.
03:31Officials condemned the actions and called on the international community to take action to stop the aggression.
03:38It is important to note that in recent weeks, Israel has continued to launch offensive on Lebanese territory, arguing that the targets are vehicles or warehouses allegedly used by the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.
03:52In Syria, authorities reported several forest fires in the towns of Almutras and Bar Sarsar in the municipality of Safita.
04:15The fire department reported that several firefighting teams were dispatched, including helicopters, to support the efforts to contain the flames.
04:24Civil defense stated that despite the progress made in some areas, the flames continue to be fueled by strong winds and dry vegetation,
04:32which is why they urged residents in the affected area to evacuate and to follow instructions to avoid injuries or fatalities.
04:39And in France, authorities in the coastal city of Biarritz have issued warnings about the danger of high waves as a preventive measure for harm.
04:53In response to the risk of high waves captured on video, the coast of Biarritz was quickly marked with warning signs.
05:02Posters with the caption, Flood waves did not approach, were placed to alert the population about the tide.
05:09Given that the French Atlantic coast is experiencing an increase in wave levels in season,
05:14the authorities have urged people to strictly respect these safety instructions.
05:25And also to stay on topic on weather phenomenon, tropical storm Melissa moved slowly across the Caribbean Sea,
05:31increasing the risk of landslides and flooding.
05:34In the coastal city of Marigot, in the southern Haiti, civil protection officials reported that the storm caused a tree to fall,
05:41killing an elderly man, while in the central region of Artebonit, five people were injured during the flooding.
05:49Elsewhere, Jamaican authorities announced that 881 shelters will be set up,
05:54while ordering the temporary closure of businesses and also government agencies.
06:00Melissa is the 13th name storm of the Atlantic hurricane season and the first storm to form in the Caribbean this year.
06:10And we go to Mexico, where the government reported that an oil spill in the state of Veracruz caused by heavy rains that hit east of the country,
06:24where there are at least 78 dead and 23 people still missing and was brought under control.
06:32The Secretary of the Navy issued a statement informing that the spill has been contained,
06:38which occurred in a pipeline belonging to the state-owned company Petroleos Mexicanos Pemex.
06:44It specified that containment barriers were placed to prevent the liquid from spreading into the Pantepec River,
06:52with the support of local fishermen and the military.
06:55The agency reported that the pipeline is operating safely and that environmental clean-up work is continuing in the affected area.

07:17Welcome back to From the South.
07:41We go to Venezuela. The fugitive from Venezuelan justice Leopoldo Lopez supported publicly a military intervention by the United States in Venezuela
07:51as the only way to bring about regime change in the Bolivarian nation.
07:55During an interview granted to the EFE agency, Lopez said that the current actions in the Caribbean must be extended to Venezuelan territory
08:04and also suggested the possibility of an internal uprising.
08:09The remarks revive a violent narrative that has served as justification for U.S. sanctions that have also affected the Venezuelan people's access to food, medicines and essential goods over the last decade.
08:21The statements coincide with Washington's growing hostility against Caracas with a justification of a supposed fight against drug trafficking in the region,
08:29an argument used in the past to justify military operations.
08:39And we stay in Venezuela. President Nicolás Maduro thanked Colombia for its support in addressing U.S. imperialist aggressions against the country and the region.
08:47The President emphasized that while the U.S. military threat looms over the Caribbean,
08:52the country is well prepared to defend its territorial integrity, freedom and peace.
08:59President Maduro also highlighted the support that Venezuela has from all its broader countries, especially Colombia,
09:04which has neutralized the violent acts that have been attempted against Venezuela
09:09and insisted that imperialist and psychological warfare threats have been successfully countered with serenity and tranquility.
09:17On May 3rd, 2020, a group of mercenaries, Venezuelan mercenaries, and some U.S. mercenaries left from Colombia, supported by Duque,
09:40now the whole truth has come out because the organizer, John Woodrock, has confessed everything they did, who financed it, who prepared it, who lead it, how did he order it, where did they train them?
09:55And he has said, everything about, even Duque, then President of Colombia. We also said it because we knew everything even Duque was doing, thanks to the fact that there are many patriots in the military forces, and in the intelligence forces of Colombia.
10:12And from here I thank you for all the support you have given us for many years, to all those who have supported the military and intelligence forces of Colombia, who have their hearts in Bolivar, and love us as the common homeland of Bolivar.
10:27The Venezuelan president also addressed the need to create a powerful international commission of the world's working class to defend the rights to peace and sovereignty in the face of imperialist threats.
10:48So, comrades, let us form a powerful international commission. Right now, later at 6 o'clock, I want to know the names of that international commission, and that we appoint a comrade to get the skates on, because we need to activate a congress of the Latin America.
11:17Caribbean working class congress with guests from all over the world, very soon to coordinate actions with the working class of our America, and the world. Reactivate because I have seen very good communications from workers unions in all countries, now we must take initiative, isn't it true that the working class that wants to support us in all countries, including the United States,
11:44formulating a formulating a strategy for peace, and if Venezuela were to be attacked, or Colombia, which is now under threat, were to be attacked, the working class of the world would react and activate all its mechanisms to defend our rights to peace and sovereignty.
12:00In other topics, in the United States, thousands of students from seven universities staged protest on Thursday in rejection of what they describe as arbitrary measures implemented by the Trump administration.
12:22The demonstrators demand respect for the university independence and question the legitimacy of the government's conditioning public funds on ideological and administrative alignment.

13:17The protest stands out in a context of growing tensions as customs and border protection agents arrived in the region as part of the intensification of operations and escalation in the enforcement of immigration laws,
13:33coupled with President Donald Trump's threats to send the National Guard to the city under the pretext of controlling crime.
13:47Meanwhile in Chile, high school students protested against interventionism promoted by far-right politicians regarding freedom of expression in the educational community in addition to attempting to censor national historical facts on their own convenience.
14:03The students marched to the superintendency of education to reject and to express their concern about the censorship that these right-wing sectors are trying to impose on educational content.
14:21They demanded an end to political repression against students and teachers through legal proceedings and summaries against them, suspensions and loss of classes.
14:30The students denounced the actions of a consular who attempted to censor historical education about the coup d'etat in Chile against President Salvador Allende, describing it as alleged indoctrination.
14:51Statement by a Republican councilwoman from the municipal council in which she claimed that our school and our principal were receiving threats from teachers
14:59and that there were ultra-left indoctrination and that there were ultra-left indoctrination and our school had been targeted for an activity to commemorate in the coup d'etat.
15:06A fact that was the coup d'etat and that led to a dictatorship in our country and that is a reality, so it is not possible that the people who are supposed to be educating us, teaching us and training us are also denying things that actually happened in our country.
15:24And now we go to Guatemala.
