00:48the coastal enclave.
00:55Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:00We begin with the news.
01:13Trade unions and workers organizations around the world have shown their solidarity with
01:17the Panamanian trade union movement, denouncing the government of José Raúl Molina's violent
01:22response to the legitimate demands of the Panamanian working class.
01:27Organizations from Indonesia, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Brazil as well
01:33as the International Labour Organization itself have expressed their support for the leadership
01:38of Panama's National Union of Construction and Similar Workers in light of the national
01:44government's violent attack on them.
01:47Our representatives have gathered outside Panamanian embassies around the world to voice their
01:52concerns about the situation in Panama and remind the government that the right to peaceful
01:58protest must be upheld.
02:00Today we have been received by the ambassador of Panama in France and outside trade unions,
02:12especially the CJT.
02:13We are defending the union freedoms of Panama.
02:16These have been violated for many months and years.
02:18We currently have union leaders who are imprisoned in addition to bank accounts and trade unions
02:23closed without any reason.
02:25Therefore, we have come to express our deep concern about the serious situation Panama faces.
02:33The authorities of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela have announced that the country's
02:38next municipal elections have been scheduled for July 27th.
02:42From the headquarters of the governing body in the city of Caracas, the President of the Electoral
02:47Authority Elvis Amorosa read a statement on building the new election schedule.
02:52Following a session held on Wednesday, the National Board in office informed the Venezuelan people
02:58that in compliance with election rules, procedures and the constitutional elections will be held
03:03for majors and municipal councilors.
03:06The schedule sets the dates for the presentations, nominations, approval of the final registry, the
03:12start of the campaign in addition to the General Assembly for Indigenous Peoples.
03:22Venezuelan oil minister Delcy Rodriguez highlighted the operability of the Bolivarian nation's oil
03:27fields.
03:34We have proved and evidenced how Venezuelan workers in the oil industry are working hard
03:39to maintain production in those wells.
03:41And I repeat, well they even showed me earlier an AI doll of me saying this.
03:47But at this moment Chevron is at full production.
03:51At this moment any fields are at full production.
03:55At this moment the Repsol field is at full production.
03:58At this moment the Maurel and Prom field is at full production.
04:02And Repsol any gas production is also at full.
04:05Thanks to whom?
04:08To the workers of Venezuela and to our country's own efforts, with or without licenses.
04:13Venezuela does not need licenses to develop, nor to be subject to schemes of neocolonialism.
04:19China urged the United States not to interfere in diplomatic and trade relations with South
04:23Korea.
04:24Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that relations with Seoul are based on common
04:30interests and should not be influenced by third countries.
04:34The Foreign Ministry reminded that China does not intervene in the internal affairs of other
04:38countries due to its principles of non-interference and therefore advised Washington to follow
04:45its example.
04:46These statements come amid Beijing's concern over the latest statements by the US government,
04:53which accused China of alleged foreign interference.
05:01Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing
05:07on Wednesday, who is in the Asian nation on his 15th official visit.
05:12During the gathering, Xi congratulated Lukashenko on his re-election as president and highlighted
05:18the true friendship and partnership between both countries based on political mutual trust
05:24and growing cooperation in all fields.
05:26For his part, Lukashenko thanked China for its long-term strong support and assistance to his country,
05:33adding that Belarus has high-degree trust in the Asian nation and will actively advance cooperation.
05:39Furthermore, the head of state expressed his willingness to work with China to safeguard international
05:45fairness and justice.
05:47Newly elected South Korean President Lee Jae-min took office on Wednesday a day after winning
05:57the SNAP elections with 49.42% of the nearly 35 million votes cast.
06:03During his inauguration ceremony held at Rotunda Hall in the National Assembly in Seoul,
06:09Lee vowed to rebuild the nation from what he called the brink of collapse following a failed
06:15martial law attempt.
06:17The head of state faces a daunting set of challenges ranging from killing a country scattered by his
06:23predecessor's move to tackling protectionist actions by the United States.
06:28In addition, in this context, Lee has expressed more conciliatory plans for ties with China
06:33and North Korea, signalling out the importance of Beijing as a major trading partner and vowing
06:39to reopen dialogue with Pyongyang.
06:47A stampede outside a cricket stadium in the southern India state of Karnataka has left several
06:53people dead and many injured.
06:55The incident took place on Wednesday when thousands of fans gathered outside the Shainaswami Stadium
07:01in the state capital Bengaluru to celebrate the home team's first victory in the Indian
07:06Premier League, attempted to enter the venue from various gates.
07:10As that it is stated, the crowd was uncontrollable while police at the scene tried to transport
07:15the injured to ambulances but were unable to move quickly due to the overcrowding on roads.
07:22Local news have reported at least 11 deaths and 33 injured.
07:26In this context, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the tragic incident, calling it absolute
07:31hard-trending and offering condolences to the victims' relatives.
07:39And now we have a short break coming up.
07:41But first remember, you can join us on TikTok at Talasur English where you will find news
07:44in different formats, news updates and more.
07:47We'll be right back, stay with us.
07:48Welcome back to From the South.
08:10Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum labelled as unfair the rise of steel and aluminium tariffs
08:16from 25% to 50%.
08:19Sheinbaum highlighted to continue fighting for an agreement with US President Donald Trump
08:24in view of the levies.
08:26The head of state assured that if a deal was not reached, her government would announce
08:30measures to protect Mexico's steel and aluminium industry unemployment.
08:35In this sense, the leader advanced that she would hold a meeting with the steel and aluminium
08:40chambers at the National Palace to make the necessary decisions regarding this issue.
08:49On Tuesday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel hosted Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohamed Bakr-Khalibaf
08:57at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana.
08:59During the meeting, Cuban leader welcomed the Iranian official visit and prized the historical
09:05importance of relations between the two countries.
09:07Díaz-Canel also ratified Cuba's support for the Persian nation's right to its nuclear capabilities.
09:13For his part, the Iranian Parliament Speaker, who previously visited the Bolivarian Republic
09:18of Venezuela, expressed his gratitude for Cuba's support and recalled the historical friendly
09:24ties between Havana and Tehran.
09:26Both rejected the imposition of coercive measures against free nations.
09:36Recent measures by Cuba's telecommunications company Etexa have sparked social debate in
09:41Cuba.
09:42Our correspondent, Fabiola López, tells us what the public thinks.
09:45Fabiola López- In the last days in Cuba, everyone is talking about the same thing.
09:53The topic is on the streets and on social media.
09:56Cuban telecommunications company Etexa is increasing internet access rates to prices that, for many,
10:01are far from the reality of their salaries.
10:04The measure is causing dissatisfaction and is being described as unpopular.
10:08Many agree that the decision was not adequately explained and the communication failed.
10:13The people were not informed in advance.
10:18Look, we are going to take this measure because there are problems with the company.
10:24We need investments.
10:25In other words, to have an open discussion.
10:28But this never happened.
10:31The public opinion was bad.
10:32I feel disappointed because it affects me and it affects everyone.
10:37I believe that aside from the fact that the measure is unpopular due to its content, it
10:42was very poorly communicated.
10:43It is true that it affects the research for our school projects, but we must understand
10:51the need the country had to take this measure.
10:54It was not taken lightly or arbitrarily.
10:57It was done out of a need for foreign currency.
11:02Cyberspace is on fire and social media are extremely active.
11:05Many are warning of the political cost of the measure, while others argue that the internet
11:09on the island is on the verge of collapse and that the next headline may not be about a
11:13new raid but rather a nationwide service outage.
11:16Authorities insist that there is a real emergency as the blockade is brutal and the situation is
11:21extremely critical due to the lack of foreign currency.
11:26We are facing debts today that we cannot pay, which means that we cannot import more technology,
11:33that we cannot import supplies, that we cannot import these things that we must buy abroad,
11:39the things that serve us, that we need in order to continue, not to develop and grow,
11:44but to maintain the services we currently have.
11:48Customers and fake news are running wild, but fate and opportunism arise.
11:52Some try to advance their anti-government and counter-revolutionary agenda under the
11:56pretext of new internet raids.
11:58However, the University Student Federation takes a stand against those who seek to undermine
12:03the country's stability.
12:05Executives from ATEXA, together with the party and the government, are engaging in constructive
12:09dialogue with the students to find solutions.
12:11I was talking about how irresponsible it is in the complex situation we are experiencing
12:20to incite violence, disorder, disobedience and chaos.
12:28Because first of all in Cuba, which is imperfect but improvable, we have an institutional structure
12:34that is not the result of the will of the government, but rather the result of a tradition of popular
12:42participation that goes back more than 60 years of revolution built with the people,
12:48and that tradition provides the space for dialogue.
12:54There were calls to rallies and sit ends on the university steps, calls that have not
12:59come from the University Student Federation.
13:01For Professor Ernesto Teuma, the increase in fees, which many consider disproportionate,
13:07has resulted in a conflict that does not necessarily have to be seen as negative.
13:12It is an adjustment in the midst of the consumption crisis, the responsibilities of public companies,
13:24a conflict in which students and other organizations have played a leading role, which would be from
13:31a civic perspective above all for access and guarantee of certain rights.
13:38However, it has been quickly exploited by agendas that seek to turn these conflicts into irreconcilable
13:43hostilities.
13:44Through his ex-account, President Miguel Díaz-Canel insists that the revolutionary government
13:51is working to provide well-being to the people in the midst of the most criminal siege, and
13:55explains that options are being sought out for the most vulnerable sectors.
13:59Many say that what is at stake here is not Internet access fees, but the credibility of a project
14:05that the vast majority is still willing to defend.
14:12The Directorate General of Migration of the Dominican Republic reported that more than 34,000
14:17Haitians were deported in May following an explicit resolution of the Council of Defense and National
14:23Security and the Majors of President Luisa Binader.
14:27The Migration Agency reported that the deported individuals were in the country illegally unwarranted
14:33in May saw the highest number of deportations in 2025.
14:38This increase in immigration enforcement has been supported by the Army, Navy, Air Force, National
14:44Police and Public Ministry.
14:46The government justifies the large-scale detention of Haitians fleeing violence of the grounds that
14:51it would cause problems for the security and stability of the Dominican population.
15:01During its second day, the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, taking place in Brazil, advocates multilateral
15:08cooperation and a balanced and fair world order.
15:12This day's session shared by the Brazilian Senate's Foreign Relations Committee reiterated the importance
15:18of establishing an open and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system with a new World
15:23Trade Organization at its core.
15:26The aim is to promote inclusive economic growth and sustainable development in environmental,
15:32economic and social sectors.
15:35This is in response to the challenges and geopolitical tensions caused by unilateral protectionist
15:39measures that generate a global crisis.

16:09Welcome back to From the South.
16:30Israel has continued to burn Gaza, killing close to 100 people in the last 24 hours across
16:36the coastal enclave.
16:38Palestinians mourned over the bodies of their relatives at the Nasser Hospital in Kan Junis
16:42after they were killed in an Israeli drone strike on a tent for displaced persons near the
16:48Al-Hanawi school in the south of the enclave.
16:52Also Gaza's Health Ministry accused Israel forces of striking a hospital building in Der Al-Bala,
16:58stating they hid the roof of an administration building at Al-Aq Samadhi's hospital.
17:04In all, at least 95 Palestinians have been killed and 440 injured in Israeli attacks across
17:09Gaza in the past 24 hours.
17:19This morning they wanted to evacuate due to an evacuation order, but two rockets were fired
17:24on the area on children and women, and they were the only ones sitting in the tents.
17:29There was no one with them except their big brother and the children, all of them children.
17:33They were all ordinary citizens.
17:35They had no connection to Hamas or any organizations or anything.
17:39They were ordinary people living in tents safe in God's care.
17:43They were sitting eating breakfast.
17:45Then the rockets fell on them, and they were all cut up as you can see.
17:53Zionist occupation forces together with Israeli settlers carried out nearly 1,700 attacks during
17:59the last month in the occupied West Bank.
18:02The Colonization and World Resistance Commission reported that the Israeli army carried out 1,276
18:09attacks while settlers carried out 415 assaults during the month of May.
18:14The Palestinian Authority condemned the increase in Israeli violence against the Palestinian
18:19people, highlighting the demolition of buildings and the confiscation of property where Zionist
18:24troops set up their military bases, as well as physical aggression, vandalism and the
18:29murder of civilians.
18:31The organization stated that Israeli actions represent a clear policy of upper-haith, which
18:36aims to carry out ethnic cleansing in the West Bank.
18:45As attacks continue on Gaza, Telesur English brings you the largest in the region through
