00:47Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesotho Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:55Israel has violated the ceasefire agreement with Palestine on at least 80 occasions with multiple attacks on Gaza that have killed at least 97 people.
01:07According to the government media office in the Gaza Strip, so far there have been 80 documents on Gaza.
01:13documented cases of ceasefire violations by Israel, which includes direct gunfire targeting civilians, the use of fire belts and arrests.
01:31The newest attacks resulted in the death of at least five Palestinians and several injuries, mainly in the town of De al-Bala and al-Zaweda, bringing the death toll since the ceasefire agreement to 97 with 230 people injured.
01:46And in this scenario, the Palestinian Ministry of Social Development reported that at least 57,000 children became orphans since the beginning of the Israeli regime's aggression against the people of Gaza.
02:01Israel's genocide attacks include the use of all types of firearms, which resulted in the destruction of infrastructure and society in the Palestinian enclave.
02:08The Ministry warned that children are the group most affected by the occupation attacks as they have lost their parents and have been deprived of education and family stability.
02:23Meanwhile, environmental research organizations report that the Gaza Strip is facing an unprecedented environmental crisis,
02:29threatening to unleash a long-term humanitarian catastrophe.
02:32Intensive Israeli bombing has destroyed ecosystems, rendering most agricultural land unusable, and devastating water systems in the region.
02:40Currently, the situation described by experts as a freefall can be summed up in three critical factors.
02:46Contaminated water, destroyed farmland, and a broken electrical grid, which together are bringing the Palestinian enclave to the brink of collapse.
02:53In Palestine, President Mahmoud Abbas received an Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs at the United Nations Don Fletcher at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah to discuss the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
03:12During the meeting, the UN Secretary informed President Abbas about the difficult conditions in the enclave and detailed the United Nations' efforts to deliver aid to citizens.
03:20The Palestinian leader thanked him for the visit and emphasized the indispensable role of UNWA, which is the UN agency for refugees, in delivering aid to Gaza and the West Bank.
03:30Finally, the Palestinian leader reaffirmed the state of Palestine's willingness to assume full responsibility in the Gaza Strip.
03:37In the Philippines, typhoon function has left at least five people dead, including two miners.
03:57According to reports from disaster management authorities, the tragedy took place in a village near the city of Togo, where three fell in a house, being all the family members inside.
04:05The Philippines' National Metrological and Hydrological Services Agency reported that tension caused wind gusts of up to 90 km per hour as it passed over Manila Bay.
04:15The agency also reported that nearly 47,000 people have been evacuated due to the risk of flooding and landslides in coastal areas of the country.
04:23And Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, will remain on red alert due to the racial rains that have been butchering the country for more than three weeks.
04:38The Secretariat for Risk Management and National Contingencies issued the alert in the capital, as well as in the southern departments of the country, Valle and Choluteca.
04:50This measure, at its highest level, requires the implementation of mandatory evacuation plans in high-risk areas due to the increased flow of the Goscoran and Choluteca rivers.
05:01Honduras is one of the countries most prone to extreme weather events, so last week the government decided to allocate nearly 19 million dollars to meet basic needs and repair the damage suffered by the people.
05:16Meanwhile, in El Salvador, authorities declared an orange alert due to the heavy rains recorded on Sunday.
05:23In this context, authorities warned of the high probability of flooding and rising river levels, as well as of high risk of rockfalls, which could block roads and highways and affect communities near slopes and mountainous areas of the country.
05:36Civil Protection Team specified that the highest accumulated rainfall was 83.4 mm, recorded at the Zaragoza Station in the Department of La Libertad.
05:45The adverse weather is due to a low-pressure system moving over the Barlovento Islands in the eastern Caribbean, which meteorological experts stated has the potential to become a disturbance in the coming days.
06:03In Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum supervised the progress of cleanup and the census of houses affected by heavy rainfall in the state of Puebla.
06:11The visit took place in the city of Pan Tepec, where the Mexican president reviewed the recovery processes and the care provided to those affected.
06:18During the last week, Sheinbaum has made official visits to several of the localities most affected by the emergency, urging the authorities to continue their coordinated efforts to ensure support for the affected communities.

06:45Welcome back.
06:46In Ecuador, the national police repressed protesters in the community of San Miguel de Comun on the 28th day of the national strike against the elimination of the Tiso.
06:47Subsidy.
06:48The protest was organized by the Confederation of Puebla.
06:49In Ecuador, the national police repressed protesters in the community of San Miguel de Comun on the 28th day of the national strike against the elimination of the Tiso.
06:50The protest was organized by the Confederation of Puebla.
06:51of the indigenous nationalities of Ecuador, Conay, not only in the country of Puebla, but also in the country of Puebla.
06:52In Ecuador, the national police repressed protesters in the community of San Miguel de Comun on the 28th day of the national strike against the elimination of the Tiso.
07:05The protest was organized by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador, Conay.
07:20Not only against the elimination of the diesel subsidy, but to demand a reduction in the value-added tax from 15 to 12 percent, as well as state attention to education and health.
07:29Meanwhile, government forces repressed the protest with tear gas and stones.
07:34To date, there have been three fatalities in the context of the national strike, two of whom were shot during the repression of the military forces, and one died from inhaling tear gas.
07:43In Bolivia, the candidate of the Christian Democratic Party, Rodrigo Paz Pereira, was elected president according to official data from the preliminary results system's quick count.
07:59The Supreme Electoral Court of Bolivia announced the preliminary official results of the quick count of votes that declared Rodrigo Paz Pereira as the winner of the second presidential round, with 54.61 percent of the valid votes.
08:13While the far-right candidate, Jorge Tuto Quiroga, of the Free Alliance Party, obtained 45.39 percent of the votes.
08:20The electoral body assured that the preliminary official result is after having processed 97 percent of the votes.
08:28In that sense, the elected president will take office on November 8th.
08:43In this context, Paz Pereira reaffirmed that he has been in talks with the United States government to be part of the solutions he seeks to promote during his term of office, which begins on November 8th.
08:55Ladies and gentlemen, we must open Bolivia to the world and resume our role.
09:02And for that reason, I would also like to thank Deputy Secretary of State Landorf, who on behalf of President Trump's government has called us to do what we told the country we would do.
09:14We are in talks for all support, assistance or cooperation to be able to forge a close relationship with one of the most important governments in the world, so that they be part of the solution starting on November 8th, so that Bolivia does not lack its hydrocarbons.
09:37And they fully support us, together with other nations that I have mentioned, so that all the efforts we have made are for the Bolivian people and to begin government with determination in the transformation that we have to carry out.
09:56Now that he has been elected President of Bolivia, let's learn a little more about Rodrigo Paz Pereira, son of former President Jaime Paz Zamora, whose term was consolidated with the support of dictator Hugo Banzer, which began his political career in 2002.
10:13His subsequent municipal administration was marked by allegations of corruption and controversial public works.
10:18He was a clear promoter of the destabilization that led to the coup against Evo Morales and supported the regime of Yanin Añez, responsible for the Senkata and Zacaba massacres.
10:27His government proposal, the 50-50 Agenda, is criticized for being a mechanism to suffocate the central government financially and weaken its ability to implement unitary social policies.
10:40In essence, his project seeks to revive the neoliberal policies that deepen inequality and surrender national sovereignty to foreign capital in the past.
10:55For his part, during a statement, the candidate for the Free Alliance Party, Jorge Tuto Quiroga, congratulated Rodrigo Paz, elected President for the 2025-2030 term.
11:04However, during the statement, his own party urged him not to recognize the results presented by the preliminary results system.
11:10We respect the work of the CREPR in the first round and we will respect it in the second round.
11:19I have called Rodrigo Paz Pereira, I wish him my congratulations.
11:24Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
11:29No, please, please, please, please.
11:33I understand the pain that overwhelms us.
11:36Believe me, if there were systemic evidence, we would put it on the table.
11:44There is a provisional count.
11:47We are going to wait for the official count.
11:50We are going to have the records.
11:52We are going to compare them.
11:54We are going to do what works because the work does not end here for us.
11:59We have complaints and others that are being made.
12:03There are allegations of issues that are happening, but this is a preliminary result.
12:10We are conveying our congratulations and we are going to do the verification work until Thursday with the records in hand.
12:20We have our second break coming up.

12:33The final break, don't go away.
12:50Welcome back.
12:56In the United States, mercenary Jordan Goodrow, mastermind of the failed Operation Gideon,
13:01confirmed that the so-called Los Soles Cartel was created by the CIA in the 1990s.
13:06Goodrow dismantled the imperial narrative that accuses Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro of heading an alleged drug trafficking organization,
13:12pointed out that it was the U.S. government that founded it before the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution.
13:18Goodrow referred to the name Los Soles Cartel as a joke, explaining it came from a patch on the uniform and was imposed by agencies such as the DEA.
13:26The mercenary pointed out that, regardless of who occupies the White House,
13:30the ultimate goal is to protect the flows of resources derived from these illicit operations and maintain their hegemony in the region.
13:37And Colombia condemns Donald Trump's accusations against President Gustavo Petro and denounces Washington's double standards in the fight against drug trafficking.
13:51The Minister of Defense assured that the statements of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, are a disrespect against national sovereignty.
13:57In addition, he reaffirmed that Colombian authorities are carrying out an intensive deployment to neutralize drug production and armed crime in the country.
14:04Meanwhile, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, responded to the testimonies of the United States and pointed out that the boat that was attacked in the Caribbean had no connections with armed groups.
14:14And through social media, the President said the following.
14:23The boat belonging to the fishermen from Santa Marta did not belong to the ELN, it belonged to a humble family who loved the sea and fished for their food.
14:31What do you say to that family? Explain to me why you helped kill a humble fisherman from Santa Marta, the land where Bolivar died, which they say is the heart of the world.
14:41What do you say to the family of fisherman Alejandro Carranza? He was a humble human being.
14:46In this sense, Colombia's Defense Minister, Pedro Arnulfo Sanchez, described U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about Colombian President Gustavo Petro as disrespectful.
15:02Any statement made against the President of the Republic, using such terms, is an affront to Colombia. He is the President of all Colombians, democratically elected, and as Minister of Defense, I can fully attest to his commitment to neutralizing drug trafficking.
15:23If there is one country that has used all its resources and sacrificed men and women in this fight and has stepped up this offensive in recent years, it is Colombia.
15:34I reaffirm that Colombia is a nation with absolute conviction and commitment to eradicating drug trafficking.
15:44led by our public forces and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, who is the President of the Republic and the President of all Colombians.
15:57For his part, Colombia's Attorney General Gregorio Eljak demanded respect for Colombian President Gustavo Petro in response to Donald Trump's statements.
16:07Sir, the President of the Republic represents the unity of Colombians and deserves all our respect, support, and solidarity.
16:17There should be some factual evidence, which I do not believe exists, to make such a radical statement against the President of a democratic state.
16:27In other topics in Mexico, the French writer Philip Ristec presented his book Venezuela, The Democracy That Is Chronicle of the 2024 Presidential Election,
16:36in the 25th edition of the International Book Fair.
16:39In this book, the author presents his experience as an international observer in the presidential elections held in Venezuela last year,
16:45dismantling the right-wing media's rhetoric that surrounds the Venezuelan electoral model.
16:49Ristec considered that Venezuela is the alternative to neoliberalism, and through an extensive analysis,
16:54he details the democracy model that the Venezuelan people have granted themselves.
16:59At the end of their presentation, the public received printed copies of the text as a gift from the Freedom Brigade,
17:05who also invited the public to download the free version of the book from its website.
17:09And in Cuba, the Granma Rebelde Festival closed in Havana on Sunday after three days of debates over the role of leftist journalism today.
17:24Telesur was there, and our colleague Benén de los Santos has the details.
17:28The 60th anniversary of the founding of the Cuban newspapers Granma and Juventud Rebelde was the reason for this international gathering in Havana.
17:36The festival Granma Rebelde brought together Cuban and international media for three days to exchange experiences
17:43and rethink the challenges and needs of leftist journalism in the 21st century.
17:49Here we gather at the Cuban media. We have television, radio and newspapers, not only those here from the capital,
17:57but also from the province who have come to this festival.
18:02Alongside us there are also important international media from Asia, Europe and Latin America.
18:09This is also an opportunity to connect and exchange with our audience, with our people.
18:15In the year leading up to the 100th anniversary of his birth, this first edition of the festival was dedicated to Fidel.
18:22His commitment to building rigorous journalism close to the workers continues to inspire communicators of the new generations.
18:30Fidel was a man who always took the truth as his primary weapon, the press as his rifle, a powerful force for the battles he fought.
18:38I always think back to March of 1952 when Batiste staged the coup. What did that young Fidel with so many revolutionary ideas,
18:45with such a strong desire to see a different Cuba do, he took to the press as a weapon in what was his first shot,
18:51that powerful article titled, Revolution, Not a Swap.
18:56The days have been marked by cooperation and exchange. Representatives from media outlets from Venezuela, Brazil, Vietnam and the United States
19:05gathered in the Cuban capital aware that the challenging international context marked by a coordinated advance of the right worldwide
19:13demands greater solidarity among the international working class.
19:18The people of the United States don't want foreign wars. The people of the United States are having a hard time putting food on the table,
19:26are having a hard time finding quality schools for their children to go to, don't have medical care.
19:34You know, people in the U.S. are suffering because they can't go to the doctor when they're extremely ill.
19:39And yet, we see our government spending so much money to enact wars that the people of the U.S. don't even want to participate in,
19:49and in fact are against.
19:51We have to exchange experiences and share to discover how to do communication and journalism in the 21st century,
19:59especially with so many challenges and so many threats to the experiences that we, independent and leftist organizations and media, defend so strongly.
20:14Three days filled with debate, exchange and conversation with one common goal,
20:19to strengthen existing alliances to narrate the present from the wisdom of our territories.
20:25Helen de los Santos, Denise Arabi, para Telesur, desde La Habana, Cuba.
