00:00In Turkey, Russia and Ukrainian delegations discuss terms of a ceasefire and a possible
00:15meeting between Presidents Putin and Zelensky. In Palestine, Israeli occupation forces have
00:24killed at least 52 people in different attacks on eight distribution centers.
00:33In Mexico, citizens voted on Sunday for their judicial authorities in an election day described
00:37by President Claudia Sheinbaum as historic.
00:46Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Eteresu Studios in Havana,
00:50Cuba. We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:03The Russian and Ukrainian delegations met again in Istanbul, Turkey, for the second round of
01:08direct peace talks amid tensions and attempts by Kiev to undermine the negotiations. Led
01:13by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, the Turkish mediation delegation announced that during
01:17the day's talks, Russia and Ukraine had discussed the conditions for a ceasefire and prisoner
01:22and civilian exchanges from a humanitarian point of view. The Turkish diplomat also mentioned
01:27that the parties would discuss the possibility of arranging a meeting between Russian President
01:31Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. This meeting is being held without
01:36the press present. The delegations are discussing the main causes of the conflict with the aim
01:43of taking a further step towards guaranteeing sustainable regional and global peace.
01:50The parties took very important steps to implement the decisions made in the first meeting. The
02:01exchange of 1,000 prisoners on each side was completed in a short time. Both sides determined
02:06their positions regarding the ceasefire and subsequent steps as promised. As agreed, they came together
02:13today to reciprocally address these positions and demonstrated their will to discuss them.
02:21In today's meeting, we aim to continue evaluating the conditions and perspectives of the ceasefire
02:32between the two countries. At the same time, we aim to take the process of exchanging war, prisoners a step
02:39further with humanitarian considerations. We also plan to address the necessary preparations for the leaders' meeting.
02:46Regular meetings are considered valuable for establishing trust between the parties.
02:53In view of the second round of dialogue between Russia and Ukraine, both sides have prepared proposals
02:59reflecting their visions for the settlement of the conflict. This is some key points.
03:04The Russian delegation had previously received from Ukraine its version of a memorandum for a peace agreement.
03:09Kiev's possible proposals include a complete and unconditional ceasefire, a right to join the European Union,
03:16and potentially NATO, a non-recognition of the new Russian territories by the international community.
03:21On the other hand, the Russian delegation calls for Ukraine to be neutral and non-nuclear,
03:26for Western commitment not to expand NATO its words, and for sanctions against Russia to be lifted.
03:32And Poland's National Electoral Commission said Monday that Conservative Karol Nauroki won the run-off election with 50.89 percent,
03:46against his rival, the Liberal, Rafał Traczkowski, with 49.11 percent.
03:51The result of the elections, which saw a turnout of 71.63 percent, the highest in such an election in the country,
03:58has profound implications for the Polish political landscape,
04:01as a victory for Traczkowski would have made it easier for the government to implement its reformist agenda.
04:07Now, Rocky's victory, on the other hand, is seen as the continuity of the head of the presidency of Duda,
04:14who has not hesitated to veto several of Tusk's initiatives.
04:24And South Korea will elect a new president on June 3rd to succeed conservative Jung Suk-jo,
04:29who was ousted over his brief but shocking imposition of martial law.
04:33Surveys suggested Liberal Lee Jae-myun, running for the Democratic Party, heavily favored to win Tuesday's snap election,
04:40riding on a wave of public disappointment of Jung's martial law debacle in December.
04:44The main conservative candidate, Kim Moon-soo, wants a comeback victory,
04:48but observers say his refusal to directly criticize Jung made it difficult for him to narrow the gap with Lee.
04:55The winner will be sworn in as president on Wednesday without the typical two-month transition.
05:00Period voting officially began on Thursday, which was the first day of a two-day early voting period
05:06in which more than 10 million people have already voted.
05:25An average array of cultural activities has been held across China to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival,
05:31such as the iconic Dragon Boat Races, making in Chongzi and art performances.
05:36The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday to commemorate ancient Chinese poet Ku Duan
05:42from the Warring States period, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
05:48The festival falls on May 31st this year.
05:51In Yuanwen, city of South China's Guangdong province, a Dragon Boat Race involving 36 teams from around the world, was held on Saturday.
05:59In Shanksha, capital city of central China's Hunan province, a fundraise using incredible land dragon boots,
06:06was held on Sunday at the Days Lake White Land Park.
06:13I think this show provides us with the opportunity to learn about the history of the Shending Nanshan city,
06:19as well as the outstanding traditional Chinese culture.
06:23The performances are all amazing and beautiful.
06:26And now we have a short break coming up, remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,

07:06Welcome back.
07:07In Palestine, Israeli occupation forces have killed at least 52 people in different attacks
07:16on eight distribution centers run by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
07:21In three separate attacks that took place between May 27th and June 2nd, Israeli occupation forces
07:27targeted crowds of Palestinians, prompting outrage from the United Nations and international humanitarian groups.
07:33The Palestinian Health Ministry said that the Israeli army is using these distribution centers
07:38to carry out mass killings and to displace Gaza residents.
07:42For its part, the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders said that patients reported being shot at
07:47from all sides by drones, helicopters, boats, tanks and Israeli soldiers.
07:52My nephew went to buy his children food.
08:01He went to buy flour for his children.
08:03The Israeli army hit him and killed him.
08:05They just wanted to eat.
08:06They were starving and just wanted some bread.
08:09He went to get them bread and took a risk and they killed him.
08:12They tell us there is aid and tell us to go and take the aid.
08:15So why do they kill them?
08:17Why?
08:18Shame on them.
08:19Find a solution.
08:20Put an end to this.
08:24Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries denounced Israel's veto of ministerial delegation
08:28to enter the West Bank as evidence of its disregard for peace.
08:32Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan said that the Israeli cabinet's refusal
08:37to allow a delegation of Arab ministers to enter the occupied West Bank demonstrates its extremism.
08:42The Saudi leader made this statement during a joint press conference in Amman,
08:47the Jordanian capital, with his counterparts from Jordan, Egypt and Bahrain.
08:51The delegation of Arab ministers was scheduled to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas
08:56in Ramallah, West Bank, to express diplomatic support for the Palestinian people in the face
09:00of the brutal Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.
09:03Israel's refusal to allow this committee to visit the West Bank is a manifestation and confirmation,
09:17as you mentioned, of its extremism and its rejection of any serious attempts of a diplomatic
09:26path to peace.
09:28It is clear that they only want violence, and this strengthens our resolve to redouble
09:35our diplomatic efforts in the international community to confront this approach.
09:43I know the topics in Serbia.
09:45Thousands protested on Sunday, marking seven months of the collapse at a train station that
09:49killed 16 people and sparked a wave of anti-corruption demonstrations.
09:53The students-led gatherings were held in more than 30 Serbian cities and towns, keeping
09:58up the pressure on President Aleksandar Bucic to call a snap parliamentary election.
10:02Many people in Serbia believed that the deadly November 1st canopy collapse in Novi Sad was
10:08a result of flood renovation work on the station building.
10:11Protests included commemoration ceremonies for the victims and student marches and blockades.
10:16In Boagrade, crowd halted traffic at two key bridges over the Sabah River, while protesters
10:23in Novi Sad came to the central railway station where the tragedy happened.
10:29In Boagrade, crowd at two key bridges in Novi Sad.
10:30When I see tens of thousands of people fighting for the same goal, it keeps me going.
10:42The goal is a rule of law and life in a decent country.
10:50This is the only way.
10:52We have to come out no matter how long it takes.
10:55It is certainly a non-violent path.
10:59Non-violence is good.
11:00We hope that students will change something.
11:03We have to.
11:04We will wait.
11:06And Sudan's recently appointed Prime Minister Kamal Tayyip Idris has announced the dissolution
11:12of the transitional government and has appointed secretaries general and under-secretaries
11:17of the ministries to perform government functions.
11:19During a cabinet meeting, Tayyip Idris announced the dissolution of the government in a statement
11:24of the press.
11:25It did not indicate when the new government, the first since the outbreak of war between
11:29the Sudanese army and the parliamentary rapid support forces in April 2023, would be formed.
11:34Despite the ongoing conflict, the Sudanese government, which is controlled by Al-Burhan's military junta,
11:39has insisted that it is working on the transitional phase to hold democratic elections, draft a new constitution,
11:47and establish a civilian government that would take control of the country without interference from the army.

12:41The Mexican National Electoral Institute reported that the estimated turnout in the election of
12:50judicial authorities was around 13%.
12:53The president, Councillor of the National Electoral Body, Guadalupe Talley, announced on Sunday night
12:59that the estimated voter participation was calculated between 1257 to 13.32%.
13:04She emphasized that this number was obtained from a random sample of 1,644 polling places throughout the country.
13:13In this way, Talley pointed out that the results of the district votes would be issued in the following days.
13:19These elections constituted an unprecedented event as citizens were summoned to the polls
13:23to elect 881 judicial positions at the federal level.
13:28Based on a sample of randomly selected sectional polling places in front of notary publics,
13:40the results obtained by the specialists yielded an estimated citizen participation resulted
13:45between 12.57 and 13.32% turnout.
13:54In a message to the nation, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum described the day on which citizens
13:59were able to elect their judicial authorities for the first time as historic.
14:03This historic election of the judiciary branch on June 1, 2025, was a success.
14:12For the first time in history, nearly 13 million Mexicans came out to assert their right to decide
14:22who should be the new ministers, magistrates, and judges.
14:26Likewise, Sheinbaum highlighted transparency of the electoral process which is set to democratize the judicial system.
14:36Today, the election process was transparent. Candidates were selected by professional commissions from the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.
14:47The campaigns were simple, and voting was free.
14:53With the new judicial system, they who arrest a wish will become a reality.
14:57Nothing outside the law. No one above the law.
15:02In other topics in Argentina, artists who carried out a symbolic embrace to the National Theatre Institute
15:08against the adjustment policy of the government of Javier Millay were repressed by police.
15:13Theatre personnel gathered in front of the door of the National Theatre Institute,
15:18where the police brigade executed the wire protocol designed by the Security Ministry directed by Patricia Buchrich to repress.
15:25This incident underlines the growing tension in the cultural sphere in the face of government policies
15:30and the response of the security forces to the demonstrations in the city.
15:34Millay's government decreed on May 23rd the closure and dissolution of cultural and historical institutions
15:41as part of its policy of budget cuts and restructuring in the state.
15:51We are here in front of the Theatre Institute, rejecting the decrees of the national government, of Cefeli,
15:56and all his policy of dismantling culture. Here are actors from all over the city, renowned and nationally recognized,
16:02to reject these cuts from the government. The police are here, who come once again to repress.
16:07What did we say? That we are not going to be silent. The theatre, the culture, the popular libraries are not silent,
16:13and we call to unite the struggles. Together with the Garahan, together with the workers of the Science Institute,
16:19together with the workers of Tierra del Fugo, of Catamarca, of the whole country, to stop this government's hand.
16:25On Wednesday, together with the retirees, we will all go to the Congress.
16:32And in Colombia, after 43 years of impunity, relatives of victims of war's disappearance by members of the state,
16:39event known as the Collective 82, see a possibility of justice after the arrest worn for 14 former policemen.
16:46Our colleague Hernando Bar with the details.
16:49Rosalba keeps the snapshot of her brother's treasures that are now indelible memories.
16:56Gustavo was arrested and disappeared in 1982. He was a student of Systems Engineering at the National University of Colombia,
17:03and was 23 years old. The situation left a deep void in the family, but also uncertainty and insistent anguish.
17:11His memory endures in Rosalba's memories.
17:16He was an excellent son, an excellent brother. He was always looking out for us so that nothing would happen to us,
17:25so that if we needed anything. I also know that he did social work because he had a group with the Claritians that they did social work.
17:37The group was called King Guayanta. When Gustavo disappeared, it ended.
17:44The case of Gustavo is added to that of 13 young people forcibly disappeared, arbitrarily deterred and tortured,
17:51all students who were falsely linked to a kidnapping. Later it was known that they had no connection with the event.
17:57After this episode, the whereabouts of all these people were done, not again, and their families are still waiting for an answer.
18:04Now they see a lot of hope and progress in terms of justice after the resolution of indictment,
18:10an arrest warrant against 14 former police officers who were related to the disappearance in the Colombian capital,
18:17an event now as the Collective 82.
18:24They should tell us where they are, where they left them, what they did with them,
18:30because the truth is that we have been like this. It is something that we can never mourn,
18:36because if they have not given them to us, then we will always be waiting for them to appear,
18:43and we can mourn them and we can make the mourning and guarantees of no repetition.
18:49That is why I do ask for them to be punished, because if they had been punished from the beginning,
18:58we will not count so many disappearances that have occurred here in Colombia.
19:06After 43 years of Tardo's struggle of relatives and defenders against impunity,
19:11they are waiting for the determination of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office
19:14against the violation of human rights to clarify the truth about what happened
19:18and to establish effective search mechanisms to defend the young people
19:22and punish those responsible for the crime.
19:25In a case that for many years was in the military criminal justice system,
19:35and went through several prosecutors until last year it was delegated to a Specialized Prosecutor
19:41of the Directorate Against Human Rights Violations,
19:44who started the file and the request presented by the victims
19:48until issuing an important decision for finding the necessary elements of criminal responsibility.
19:54The victims' lawyers took the case to the International Commission of Human Rights in 1992,
20:03who pointed out that the state had failed to comply with its obligation to respect the life and liberty of the young people,
20:09and in 2022 the case was declared a crime against humanity,
20:13which prevented the investigation from being closed.

20:32In Ecuador, an oil spill contaminated part of a branch of the salty estuary near the coastal city of Guayaquil,
20:39putting authorities and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition on alert.
20:43on alert. According to the Minister of the Environment, Maria Luisa Cruz, after learning
20:48of the oil spill in a branch of the mangrove swamp El Salado Wildlife Productions Reserve,
20:53the affected area was immediately checked by means of a flyover and a river tour. The hazardous
20:59materials unit of the city's firefighters was immediately activated and they began to search
21:04the area with a rubber boat to determine the origin of the spill. Absorbent barriers were
21:09placed along the branch to prevent further damage to the fauna and flora of the natural reserve.
