Ready to compete!

That was the warning Dwight Yorke sounded to his opponents as Gold Cup coaches faced the media on Tuesday.

On Monday Yorke named a 54 man preliminary squad for the Gold Cup in June and the T&T head coach reiterated his main objective, which is to progress beyond the group stages.
Transcript
00:00The Soca Warriors have the Unity Cup and a couple of World Cup qualifying matches to come over the next couple of weeks.
00:06But Dwight York's focus today was the upcoming Gold Cup where he will face off against the host United States, Haiti and Saudi Arabia in Group D.
00:14And the TNT head coach set out his major objective for the tournament.
00:18We want to advance as much as every other team that is in the group there.
00:24And we know that, you know, being in such a prestigious group, it's a high profile group with America being host.
00:30We know what they're going to bring to the table. Of course, they've got a high profile manager as well.
00:35So we understand it's a country that we play against on numerous times.
00:39And I think there is a new a new regimes of players that may surprise one or two people when we come together.
00:48So that's the main aim in the competition is to try and progress through that group stage.
00:58Only yesterday, York named a 54-man preliminary squad for the World Cup made up of several young but exciting talents.
01:05And he confirmed his commitment to building a new era for TNT football.
01:09It's a new, new class of players. I'm not saying the old players that were there.
01:13There are one or two players, of course, that, you know, the public will be familiarized.
01:19But there will be some players in there that, you know, you never heard of before.
01:23And I think that's the key. We are trying to introduce the new era, the new era of Trinidad and Tobago football.
01:31And that's part of my job to give these guys. But we're going in there.
01:35We have made decent progress, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
01:39And every player knows what my ideas and philosophy are and the expectation.
01:45And so we are continuing to trend and continue to build on, of course, what the previous managers have done.
01:52And that's what we're going to try and implement into the tournament.
01:55Despite building a wrong youth, York is adamant. They are ready to challenge.
01:59Well, I think that we have built a team now where we can compete.
02:02I think that's the most one of the most important thing that we are ready to compete in terms of playing philosophy.
02:10I think like every other manager, they always want to play on the front foot.
02:14But we have to know what limitation and what we can do and produce.
02:17We are tactically a much better team, more aware of opposition and not always been able to play in position.
02:24We have always been a team that could play in position quite exceptionally.
02:28But we are a team that when we are out of position, we are not quite sure how to do that.
02:32That's something that we have improved on and you will find that as we progress.
