The Ministry of Homeland Security says it's working with U.S. immigration authorities to facilitate the return of 21 Trinidad and Tobago nationals currently in detention in the United States. Achsah Gulston has more.

00:00According to a release from the Ministry of Homeland Security, the government has acknowledged a formal request from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, ICE, for assistance in repatriating 21 nationals currently in immigration custody.
00:16The group includes 17 men and 4 women. ICE has proposed a chart of flight to Port of Spain, tentatively set for Friday, May 23rd, noting it would be more efficient than arranging multiple commercial flights.
00:32The Ministry says it is reviewing the flight manifest and is in contact with ICE to ensure all documentation and logistics comply with both local and international immigration standards.
00:45In a joint statement, the Ministries of Homeland Security and Foreign and Caricom Affairs reaffirmed their commitment to a safe and dignified return of all nationals, while maintaining the integrity of the country's immigration system and fulfilling international obligations.
