Carib beer is now on shelves in Uttar Pradesh, India. The announcement came from ANSA McAL Ltd, as the conglomerate continues to push its brands into international markets.
Transcript
00:00Carib's launch in Uttar Pradesh follows Anza Macal's partnership last year with Globus Spirits Limited,
00:06a major player in India's alcoholic beverages industry.
00:10Speaking at the presentation of the group's first quarter 2025 financial results at Salmon Estate in Port of Spain,
00:16group CEO Anthony N. Sabga III revealed that production is already underway.
00:21The brewing and manufacturing team just returned from Uttar Pradesh about a week ago and the first production of commercially available Carib has been released.
00:36So our partners in that market, the Globus Beverage Organization, are working with us in a joint venture and we have begun marketing.
00:47The joint venture, Globus Ansar Private Limited, or GAPL, was described as a dynamic merger of cultures and expertise aimed at shaking up the Indian bear market.
01:00Sabga added that a group plans to expand distribution to other Indian regions in the near future.
01:05When asked about upcoming acquisitions, he referenced Anza Macal's recent purchase of the U.S.-based chloralkali producer Bleach Tech, LLC.
01:15Having just completed the most significant acquisition in the history of this group and quite possibly the largest acquisition for a Caribbean organization
01:32to make outside of the region for the entire Caribbean, the team have been very busy doing the needful,
01:40assuring that the integration and execution of our acquisition plan comes to bear.
01:45A snowstorm earlier this year damaged infrastructure at the Bleach Tech factory, affecting operations and contributing to a 46% drop in group profit before tax.
01:57The company reported a figure of $93 million for the quarter ending March 31st, down $80 million from the previous year.
02:04Sabga said he was not in a position to disclose any future acquisitions at this time.
02:09Turning to international trade, Sabga weighed in on tariffs imposed during Donald Trump's presidency.
02:15I think the various trade negotiation organizations that are involved in that have done the necessary negotiations
02:26to afford our nation and our region the kind of reprieve that really ought not to so damagingly and in a panicked manner affect us.
02:40He said the group continues to focus on business resilience and financial discipline.
02:45What we remain focused and fixated on is ensuring that we are operationally strong and we remain strong with strong operational cash flows
02:54and manage our business in that regard.
02:58And notwithstanding tariffs, tariffs and whatnot would apply to everyone.
03:01As an organization, we practice very sound business principles and this wouldn't be the first or the last time that there have been potential blips,
03:14but we can weather those.
