00:00Frank Sekhar from Ranchi Jharkhand, I am doing my engineering from Satyavan Engineering College here.
00:05Sir, your lecture, after hearing your lecture, our misbelief about Islam and Muslims vanished today.
00:22Sir, I have been to Jammu and Kashmir and I have seen the trauma and pain that the people are suffering there
00:27because of the so-called jihad of some Muslims.
00:30Sir, my question is, does Islam support such activities?
00:35If no, then what actually the word jihad means?
00:38Is it in accordance with the 56th verse of the 7th chapter of Quran which says,
00:43Do not mischief.
00:45Or the 14th verse of the 42nd chapter which says,
00:48Forgiveness is better than retaliation.
00:51Or the 32nd verse of the 5th chapter which states,
00:54If anyone killed a person, he kills the mankind.
00:59Sir, I have one more question in the same context.
01:02And it is, that does Islam teach us to give priority to the religion, that is dharm or majhab,
01:08before the country or motherland, that is matri-bhumi or qaam?
01:12Thanks a lot.
01:15The first question is regarding the concept of jihad.
01:21He says that why are people fighting into Kashmir about jihad?
01:26Does Islam encourage this fighting?
01:28What is the meaning of jihad?
01:30Does it not disagree with the quotations he gave us to Ramaydah chapter 5 verse of 72?
01:33Brother, as far as the word jihad is concerned,
01:37there is a misconception not only amongst the non-Muslims, but even among the Muslims.
01:42What most of the people think, that any war, fought by any Muslim, for any reason,
01:47whether it be for his personal gain, whether it be for politics, whether it be for language,
01:51whether it be for color, it is called as jihad.
01:54Jihad does not mean any war, fought by any Muslim.
01:57Jihad comes from the Arabic word jahada, which means to strive, which means to struggle.
02:03Like how we have jiddo jahed.
02:05So jihad basically means to strive to struggle.
02:07And in the Islamic context, it means to strive against one's own evil inclination.
02:12It also means to strive to make the society better.
02:16It even includes to strive in the battlefield to fight in self-defense.
02:21Jihad also means to fight against operation and tyranny.
02:24Jihad basically means to strive or struggle.
02:27Many people have misconception that jihad means holy war.
02:30And many people translate jihad as holy war.
02:33The Arabic word for holy war is harbu muqaddasa.
02:36If you read the Quran, no way in the Quran, not a single verse,
02:40no way in the authentic hadith of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
02:42is this word harbu muqaddasa mentioned anywhere.
02:45There is no harbu muqaddasa at all.
02:47The translation of jihad is not holy war at all.
02:50This word holy war was first used by the historians to describe the crusades of the Christian
02:56who spread Christianity and who killed thousands of people in the name of Christianity.
03:01Unfortunately today, many people, including so-called Muslim scholars, inverted commas,
03:05they translate jihad as holy war.
03:07It's a mistranslation.
03:09Yes, jihad means to strive, to struggle.
03:12One of the striving can include fighting.
03:15Fighting also should be in the way of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
03:17that is kital si sabi lillah.
03:19Now regarding a question,
03:21that why does Islam encourage fighting and killing?
03:23And there are many critics of Islam who normally say,
03:25Islam is a ruthless religion.
03:27It always says that you should kill the non-Muslims where you find them.
03:30Many critics, including the critic of India, Arun Shuri,
03:33and he writes in his book, The World of Fatwa,
03:36he quotes Surah Tawbah, chapter number 9, verse number 5,
03:39and says that the Quran says,
03:41wherever you find a kafir, into bracket Hindu, that you kill them.
03:44And if you open the Quran, Surah Tawbah, chapter 9, verse number 5,
03:47and if you read it, it does say,
03:49wherever you find a kafir, you kill.
03:50But this is a quotation out of context.
03:54For the context, if you read the first few verses,
03:57it speaks about a peace treaty between the mushriks of Makkah and the Muslims.
04:02If you read Surah Tawbah, chapter 9, first few verses,
04:05it speaks about a peace treaty between the Muslims and the mushriks of Makkah.
04:08Now this peace treaty was unilaterally broken by the mushriks of Makkah.
04:11By the time Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala reaches verse number 5,
04:15He gives them an ultimatum to the mushriks and He tells them,
04:18put things straight in four months' time,
04:20otherwise a declaration of war.
04:22And in the battlefield, Allah says,
04:25that when the enemies come to attack you,
04:27you kill the enemies.
04:28So this verse is revealed in the battlefield,
04:31that when the enemies come to kill you,
04:32don't get scared, fight them.
04:34But natural, any army general today,
04:36to boost up the morale of his soldiers,
04:38because he will say that when the enemies come to kill them,
04:41he will not say that just be quiet.
04:43And Arun Shuri, after coding verse number 5,
04:46he jumps to verse number 7.
04:47Because verse number 6 has a reply.
04:49Surah Tawbah, chapter 9, verse number 6 says,
04:51that if the kafir, if the enemy seek asylum,
04:54if they want peace,
04:55don't just give it to them.
04:57Escort them to a place of security.
05:00If the enemy wants peace or asylum,
05:03escort them to a place of security.
05:04Today, the most merciful army general,
05:07maximum Italian soldiers,
05:08that let the enemy go.
05:09Here, Allah says,
05:10don't just let them go,
05:11escort them to a place of security.
05:13So whenever these verses are there of killing,
05:15including the verses of Surah Anfar,
05:17chapter 8, verse number 60,
05:18when they say that,
05:20prepare your steed,
05:21and be prepared,
05:23attack the enemy.
05:23The next verse says,
05:24but if the enemy is inclined towards peace,
05:27you give it to them.
05:28So almost all the verses we talk about fighting,
05:30after that it says,
05:32that if they want peace,
05:33peace is better.
05:35Now regarding your question,
05:36what about the verses of Surah Maidah,
05:37chapter 5, verse 32,
05:39Surah Nisa, chapter 4, verse 40,
05:41that if anyone kills any human being,
05:42it is as though he has killed the whole of humanity.
05:44This is the basic rule of Islam,
05:46that if anyone kills any human being,
05:48whether it be a Muslim or non-Muslim,
05:50unless it be for murder,
05:51or for creating mischief in the land,
05:53spreading corruption in the land,
05:55it is as though he has killed the whole of humanity.
05:57And if anyone kills any human being,
05:59it is as though he has killed the whole of humanity.
06:00Now if you read,
06:02if you read Bhagavad Gita,
06:04Bhagavad Gita,
06:05chapter number 2,
06:06verse number 50,
06:07it says,
06:08Shri Krishna tells Arjun to do jihad,
06:11strive.
06:12If you read Mahabharat,
06:14Mahabharat talks about thousands of verses of fighting,
06:17thousands of verses,
06:19many number of times,
06:20more than what the Quran speaks.
06:22Mahabharat is a scripture,
06:23as you may be aware,
06:24it talks about a feud,
06:26a fight between the Pandavas and the Kauros.
06:28The 5 Vedas Pandavas and 100 Vedas Kauros fight.
06:32And Bhagavad Gita is a part of Mahabharat,
06:3518 chapters in which Shri Krishna,
06:38Lord,
06:38he gives advice to Arjun.
06:40Arjun says,
06:42Arjun says in Bhagavad Gita,
06:43chapter number 1,
06:44verse 42-46,
06:45that I would prefer
06:46getting killed unarmed,
06:49rather than fighting my cousins.
06:51How can I fight my cousins?
06:53The Kauravas my cousins.
06:54I would prefer getting killed unarmed,
06:56rather than fight.
06:57Immediately Lord Krishna,
06:59you know what does he say?
07:01In chapter number 2,
07:02verse number 2 and 3 says,
07:03that how could such impure thought come in your mind?
07:07It is sinful.
07:09How could you become so important?
07:11How could your heart become so weak?
07:13So Lord Krishna says,
07:14such thoughts are important.
07:16They are impure.
07:17They are sinful.
07:18It will prevent you from going to the heavenly planets,
07:21going to Janna.
07:22After that,
07:24Bhagavad Gita,
07:25chapter number 2,
07:25verse number 31-33 says,
07:27he says,
07:28Lord Krishna,
07:30he says to Arjun,
07:31that it is the duty of a Kshatriya to fight.
07:35If he does not fight,
07:36he shall not go to heaven.
07:38And,
07:39if you do not fight,
07:40you are doing a sin.
07:42So if you analyze in Bhagavad Gita,
07:44Krishna says,
07:45that you have to fight.
07:46Imagine,
07:47if I take verses of Bhagavad Gita and say,
07:49that Lord Krishna,
07:51tells Arjun,
07:51that you have to kill your relatives.
07:53If I quote out of context,
07:54it will be devilish.
07:56But in context,
07:57it is what Krishna says,
07:58that if you have to fight against falsehood,
08:01for the truth,
08:02you can fight against anyone,
08:04even if it will be your relatives.
08:05So in context,
08:06it makes sense,
08:07that if you have to fight for justice,
08:08even if it will be against your relatives,
08:11there is no problem.
08:12So that is the message of Bhagavad Gita and Mahabharat,
08:14fighting truth against falsehood.
08:16The moment I tell a Hindu,
08:18about Mahabharat and Bhagavad Gita,
08:19he has the knowledge.
08:21He says,
08:21no,
08:22but Mahabharat and Bhagavad Gita,
08:23is a fight between truth and falsehood.
08:25That is the same thing,
08:26what is mentioned in the Quran.
08:30So the moment I quote to you,
08:31Bhagavad Gita,
08:32Mahabharat,
08:32you understand the Quran better.
08:34And furthermore,
08:35many people say,
08:35oh,
08:36this Quran talking about jihadis,
08:37if you do jihad,
08:38if you die,
08:39you go to jannah.
08:40Many critics?
08:41Including Arun Shuni quote,
08:42and they quote,
08:43even hadith of Sahih Bukhari,
08:45volume number 4,
08:46in the book of jihad,
08:47chapter number 2,
08:48hadith 46,
08:48it says that a mujahid,
08:50is a person,
08:51who strives in the way of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
08:53and Allah alone knows who strives.
08:55And further a prophet said,
08:57that if a mujahid,
08:57dies in the battlefield,
08:59he will say a gunu jannah,
09:00he will get pious.
09:01But if he returns back,
09:03if he does not die,
09:03he will return back,
09:05with the booty of war.
09:06This hadith,
09:07and several verses of the Quran,
09:08are quoted by the critics of Islam.
09:10I wonder,
09:11how could the Hindu critics quote these things?
09:13Haven't they read the Bhagavad Gita?
09:15Haven't they read the Mahabharat?
09:16Even Shri Krishan,
09:18he mentioned Bhagavad Gita,
09:19chapter number 2,
09:20verse number 37,
09:21O Arjun,
09:22O son of Kunti,
09:23rise up and fight,
09:24even if you are killed,
09:25no problem,
09:26you will go to heaven.
09:27And if you return back successfully,
09:30you will get the good riches of this earthly world.
09:33Same thing as the hadith.
09:35So when Krishan says to Arjun,
09:37that fight,
09:37if you are killed,
09:38no problem,
09:38you will go to heaven.
09:40If you return back successful,
09:42you will get the riches of the world.
09:43That is the same thing,
09:44what Sai Bukhari says,
09:45what the Quran says.
09:47So therefore,
09:47you should understand each other better,
09:48by reading the scripture.
09:50So Islam allows fighting as a last resort,
09:54in self-defense,
09:55or to fight against oppression,
09:56otherwise no.
09:57And jihad means to strive to struggle.
10:00Now coming to your second question,
10:01which is more important?
10:03Which is more important,
10:04following the rules of the country,
10:07or following the mazhab,
10:08the deen?
10:09It is like you asking me,
10:10who do I belong to first?
10:11Do I belong to my father or my mother first?
10:17Brother,
10:17as far as following the rules of the country,
10:20and following the rules of deen,
10:22Almighty God is concerned.
10:23Almighty God is our creator.
10:26He is more superior to us.
10:27Following the rules of deen,
10:29is more important for us,
10:30than any other rule laid down,
10:31by father,
10:32mother,
10:32or any country.
10:35But,
10:35but,
10:36I am Indian.
10:37I know,
10:38there is not a single law,
10:40in the Indian constitution,
10:41which prevents any Muslim in India,
10:43to follow Islam.
10:44In fact,
10:47India is one of the few countries,
10:49which is mentioned in the constitution,
10:50that it is the right,
10:52it is the birthright,
10:53of every citizen of India,
10:54to preach,
10:55practice his religion.
10:56That's what I am doing.
10:57There is not a single law in India,
11:01which prevents me from doing something,
11:03which is farz,
11:04or compels me from doing something,
11:06which is haram.
11:08There is no law.
11:09I can offer five times the life I want,
11:11if I don't want,
11:11I can't offer.
11:12There is not a single law,
11:13in the Indian constitution,
11:14which prevents me,
11:15from becoming a good Muslim.
11:17Therefore,
11:18as far as I am concerned,
11:18I am a very practicing Muslim,
11:20Alhamdulillah,
11:21and also practicing Indian.
11:23And if by definition,
11:25by geographical definition,
11:28an Indian geographical is called Hindu.
11:30So if Hindu means a geographical definition,
11:32I am a Hindu living in India,
11:34and I am a practicing Muslim.
