00:00The privatization of state operations is a critical area that needs thorough consideration,
00:07says David Abdullah, political leader of the Movement for Social Justice.
00:11If we continue to sell our assets in order to get money to meet our day-to-day expenses as a country,
00:21namely the government, then at some point in time we will have neither assets nor revenue to meet our day-to-day expenses.
00:28Some state bodies, he says, are not necessary.
00:58You have to have an HR manager, a finance manager, a general manager, an engineering manager, and then supervisors.
01:07It was just creating a bureaucracy, so the money was going into the bureaucracy rather than going into fixing schools.
01:12But there are some that should always remain public.
01:16When we talk about the strategic ones, WASA, TNTEC, and so on, and NGC, First Citizens, which was partly privatized,
01:26those things, the port, those things must remain, Caribbean Airlines, those things must remain in public hands.
01:35And Petro Trinh, he says, six and a half years later, needs to not only be reopened, but to be reopened safely.
01:43It will bring foreign exchange into the country because clearly monies will have to be accessed from abroad
01:53to put back into the restart of the refinery, which would require significant work.
02:01You know, tanks have to be inspected and replaced and pipelined similarly and compressors and pumps
02:07and all of the electrical work and the instrumentation.
02:11A huge amount of work has to be done so that when you press the button to start a plant,
02:16it wouldn't blow up and take half a marbella with it.
