00:00It's been three days since the United Kingdom made its decision to impose a
00:04visa requirement on nationals of Trinidad and Tobago. Speaking to TV6 at
00:09Japan's National Day reception in Port of Spain, Minister of Foreign Affairs
00:13Dr. Amy Brown said a senior official from London will be visiting TNT next
00:18week to discuss the matter, adding that he also wrote to the British High
00:22Commission to Trinidad and Tobago. His Excellency received in in good spirit
00:28the representation of Trinidad and Tobago, committed to conveying that to
00:34the Home Office in London, and refreshed the record that this was, despite the
00:41speculation out there, triggered by those an increase in the asylum
00:47applications, not due to anything else, and indicated that the decision will be
00:57reviewed in six months time. Minister Brown said he has made a few suggestions
01:02to the British High Commissioner John McDean on how the matter could be
01:06resolved. I proposed it to him that we have a specific agenda for an action
01:13plan where, collaboratively, as friends, two friendly nations, we can work on
01:20addressing the core concerns from London and in the shortest possible time.
01:26Lift these this visa imposition from the people of Trinidad and Tobago. With
01:33immediate effect, nationals will have to apply and pay for visas if they wish to
01:38travel to the UK, even if this is just a transit to another destination.
01:42Nationals will need a direct ASI transit visa if transferring via the UK.
01:47However, those with an existing electronic travel authorization and who
01:52already have a confirmed travel booking can still enter visa-free until April 23rd
01:582025. Sharla Kisto, TV6 News.
