00:00All right, beware of the Irish.
00:14That's the warning from cricket analyst Fazir Mohamed
00:16as the West Indies gear up to face host Ireland in three ODIs starting next week.
00:21Well, the men in maroon will also travel to England
00:24where Mohamed believes the Brits are clear-cut favorites.
00:27The West Indies are preparing for three one-day internationals against Ireland
00:32and then another three against England
00:34with the series bowling off on May 21st in Dublin.
00:37Cricket analyst Fazir Mohamed has no issues with the West Indies squad chosen
00:41saying it was easy to predict who would make the cut.
00:44Some may have arguments for individual players
00:47but there doesn't really appear to be a situation where you've got players
00:51who've been banging on the door with consistent high-level performances
00:56and therefore mandating selection and they've been left out.
00:59But the squad that is selected looks to be in keeping with the trend moving forward
01:05looking at younger players giving them great opportunities
01:08after the strong finish to 2024 with the series victory at home to Bangladesh.
01:14With qualification for the 2027 World Cup at stake,
01:17Mohamed says the players have to bring on their A-game
01:20if they don't want to miss out like they did in 2023.
01:23As such, Mohamed says they cannot take the Irish for granted
01:27during the upcoming series.
01:29Ireland will be no pushovers.
01:31They've lost their last two series, 2-1 in South Africa in October
01:35and 2-1 to Zimbabwe in February
01:38but they've got a really settled nucleus.
01:41They've got experienced players.
01:42They don't have the O'Briens in their squads anymore
01:45but still they have players who have certainly shown previously
01:48that they are more than a handful for the West Indies in the 50-over format.
01:53Mohamed has no doubt England are going to be even tougher opponents for the West Indies.
01:58This despite a psychological edge the men in Maroon may have
02:01after beating the English 2-1 in the Caribbean last year.
02:04Obviously the West Indies will be underdogs for the series against England
02:08even with the English in transition as well
02:10after a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign in Pakistan
02:14and therefore with the vast array of talent that they have available to them
02:19the West Indies will have their hands full for those three matches as well.
02:24Shamar Joseph, Romario Shepard and Shufin Rutherford are also in the ODI squad
02:28but they are currently in India for the IPL
02:31which has been temporarily suspended following the India-Pakistan war.
02:35Vinod Nawani, Chiefs Export.
02:36The Bangarang isn't over for the Windies just yet
02:40as top Test Team Australia will name their squad
02:43for the three-match Caribbean Test Series against the West Indies in June.
02:47The Aussies will visit the Caribbean only a few weeks
02:50after they play the World Test Championship Final against South Africa.
02:54Pat Cummings will captain the team
02:56which includes the likes of Ousmane Khawaja,
02:58Steve Smith, Chavez Head, Mitchell Stark and Josh Hazelwood.
03:02I'll tell you what, everybody seems to be on the dance floor
03:11as the West Indies A-Team will also be in action
03:14as they are set to face South Africa A in 3.50 over matches later this month
03:18followed by two first-class matches in June.
03:21However, one cricket analyst is questioning
03:24why isn't everyone receiving much publicity
03:27and is also asking when will the squad be named
03:30since the Limited Overs Series is set to start next week in St. Lucia.
03:35According to Ken Crafton, he says that he is scheduled
03:39to have practice facilities available
03:42for the West Indies A-Squad on the 16th of May.
03:48Today being the 13th of May,
03:51the West Indies PR Department, for whatever reason,
03:54have not named the West Indies A-Squad
03:59which should be arriving in, hopefully, in a matter of hours.
04:06The schedule indicates that they will start on the 21st of May
04:14in the first ODI.
04:16Everyone is expecting a fairly exciting A-Squad
04:21which can reflect some ideas of who we can expect.
04:26Maybe they may get an opportunity to play in the opening tests
04:31against Australia in Barbados.
04:33And it's extremely disappointing
04:36that three days before they are scheduled to practice in St. Lucia,
04:42the squad has not been named.
