00:04The Gherkin is one of London's most iconic skyscrapers, officially known as 30 St Mary
00:10Acts.
00:11Completed in 2003 and opened in 2004, it was designed by renowned architect Norman Foster.
00:19Standing 180 metres tall with 41 floors, it's a striking example of modern architecture
00:26in the heart of a city of London.
00:28The building's unique curved shape, tapered at both ends, makes it look like a giant
00:34pickle, which earned the nickname, The Gherkin.
00:37While the official name reflects its address, the quirky nickname stuck because Londoners
00:42immediately saw the resemblance.
00:46So in short, it's famous for its futuristic design, clever engineering and of course,
00:51looking very much like a stylish cucumber.
