An award winning green space in Hackney.
Transcript
00:01Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London.
00:05Stonebridge Garden sits in Haggerston, next to the Overground Station, and wasn't always
00:09the green community park you can see today.
00:12Its roots go back to what used to be Stonebridge Common, an old patch of common land.
00:18In the 1960s, post-war redevelopment shaped the space into a public open area.
00:24Then in 1981, a striking public art piece was added.
00:28By 2016, the park had seen a major refurbishment.
00:32Hackney Council commissioned a redesign, the old tarmac multi-use pitch was removed, and
00:37a new entrance was built to connect more directly with the Haggerston estate and community residents.
00:42When the park reopened in July 2016, it was praised by residents, especially for turning
00:48what was once a tarmac-heavy and gritty area into a more inviting and attractive community
00:53space.
