00:52And I'm Brooke Burke-Charbet. For the first time in the history of the show, three women and their partners are facing off to become our champion of champions.
01:02So, let's welcome our All-Star finalists.
01:07Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough.

01:15Soap star Kelly Monaco and Valentin Schwarzkowski.
01:22Wow, it's faster with only three couples.
01:37Kelly and Val, Melissa and Tony, and Shawn and Derek, three outstanding couples with three more dances between them.
01:45And the All-Star Trophy tonight, they'll compete for your final votes in two rounds of competition.
01:51First, they'll perform the favorite dances that they think will give them the best shot at high judges' scores, and of course, the maximum votes from you.
02:00And then, it's our all-new, super-sized freestyle round, where our stars have free reign over their creative choices and the freedom to add extra performers to enhance their routine.
02:12Now, let's kick off the night with a couple who came back from the bottom of last week's leaderboard with the power of your votes.

13:42Now there were higher scoring routines that you could have
13:45chose tonight for your repeat dance.
13:46Why the samba?
13:47A couple of reasons.
13:48First, we wanted to challenge ourselves.
13:50You know, this was a dance we could improve on and wanted to show that.
13:53And second, it's very different than our freestyle.
13:55So we kind of wanted to show two different sides tonight.
13:58There was a strategy.

14:39All we're telling our finalists now is that they'll be performing either a jive, a cha-cha, or a samba.
14:45So they'll have to prepare three different routines.

14:49Tomorrow night, live on our finale, they'll pick both the music and dance style they'll perform
14:54to complete their judges' scores.
14:56Now, though, for the final dance of tonight's first round, Sean and Derek pick their quick step

15:12Making it to the finals was the best feeling ever.
15:16It was definitely the boost I needed.
15:18It all comes down to this last week.
15:21Terrifying.
15:22Especially when you've had such a good season,
15:24and then the sort of fall at the last hurdle would be, like, devastating, I suppose.
15:29But we're not having to think like that.
15:33We are doing the quick step again, because it was the first time Derek and I really came
15:36out and said, we're gonna do things different.
15:39It was kind of our statement dance.
15:41So, we're gonna break hold again?
15:43I know we broke the rules, but I think we should just keep it the same.
15:46Is it worth it to take a risk and not get a perfect score?
15:49I mean, can we afford that?
15:51I'm definitely really nervous that we'll get the same scores that we got in week three,
15:55which could mean the difference between winning and losing.
15:58But that's how we've played this entire season, is taking risks.
16:02We go out there to entertain people, or we go out there to get points.

19:52Back in week three, you've received a 26.5 for that routine. Tonight, you decided to repeat it and
19:58not modify the choreography. The judges originally marked you down for breaking the rules. Everybody
20:04called you out on it. Do you still feel like that risk was worth it tonight? I mean, I do, and I think
20:09we both do, but we love the judges. We respect your rules and everything. I've lived by that my whole
20:14life, but we've really dedicated the season to the audience and the fans and having fun.
20:19And, you know, if we got one more chance to do our favorite routine and one of the
20:23audience's favorites routine again, you know, I mean, that's what we wanted to do.

21:22For these supersized freestyles, our all-stars have taken complete creative control.
21:27They've picked the music and arrangement, the costumes, dance styles.
21:30Plus, they've added extra performers to help them put on the best full-blown production number

21:45For this freestyle, the music, I did a little bit of a special arrangement to it.
21:50There are going to be a couple of surprises.
21:53And in the beginning, I thought we could do some aerial stunts.
21:56So we've got to take some risks.

21:58I think this freestyle needs to be levels above anything we've done this season.
22:07Our freestyle is jam-packed.
22:10The beginning starting out, I am doing aerial work while Val is serenading me with a violin.
22:16We also have the troupe dancers dancing along with us.
22:18And we chose to dance to I Had the Time of My Life from Dirty Dancing.
22:23I think it sums up the past three months really well.
22:30The most surprising thing for me out of this whole experience is the bond that I've made with Val.
22:37Just amazingness.
22:39Just being able to have a friendship like that that was unexpected is just priceless.

22:50I am so grateful to have made it this far in the competition, but it's bittersweet because

26:44What was your thinking behind Val on the violin?
26:47You were doing aerial silk work.
26:48There was a choir.
26:49The troupe was out there on the dance floor.
26:51Well, I appreciated being able to have as many accommodations as we needed.
26:56But I also wanted Val and I to be the highlight of the freestyle.
26:59And a celebration in that.
27:03And I think we accomplished that.
27:05Yeah, coming in, we didn't want the intensity of the freestyle, the supersized freestyle to overwhelm us.
27:13You know, I think our chemistry, our relationship and just us on the dance floor with the music.
27:19That's what makes it special.
27:20And I wanted to showcase that.
27:21Speaking of you guys, the intensity, this whole us, our time is almost over here.

28:25This is how Melissa and Tony put together their biggest production of the competition.
28:30The dance that you wanted to repeat was the samba.
28:33For freestyle, I wanted to be a contrast to that.
28:36Season 8, our freestyle was a hip-hop mix, and it was supposed to be kind of an homage to all the dances we had done.
28:43And it bombed.
28:44The choreography just felt a bit disjointed.
28:47It was not my cup of tea.
28:49We didn't take high risks, and I'm not doing that this time.
28:52So for freestyle, we decided to do contemporary.
28:54I want to showcase your softness.
28:55I want to showcase your beautiful lines.
28:57Contemporary is something we haven't seen in a finale before.
29:01On this lift, I've got to figure out a way to get your hips properly.
29:06There you go.
29:07I've never done a contemporary-style dance, and we don't want to go out and do what the audience expects.
29:12So we're taking a huge risk.
29:13Keep staying.
