‘They just create division, we don’t need it!’ Londoners on rise of Reform UK

We ask Londoners about the rise of Reform UK and the Greens.

00:00After the latest round of local UK elections, both Reform and the Greens have made some big moves,

00:07showing just how fed up people are with the usual parties.

00:11Reform has gained major ground by speaking out on topics like immigration, the cost of living and the ineptitude of the Tories.

00:20Greens are getting more support thanks to growing concern over climate change.

00:25But can either party really make a dent in London?

00:28Well, in times like these, could big cities like the capital be up for grabs?

00:34I spoke to Londoners to find out.

00:36I mean, it's no surprise the reform has continued to gain ground, really.

00:40I mean, they're kind of mirroring populism.

00:44You know, he's a friend of Trump and all the rest of it.

00:45It's still hanging on from the Brexit party and all those kind of things.

00:50I mean, I mean, a lot of it's just disenfranchisement, isn't it?

00:55By people with both the main parties, Conservative and then Labour.

01:00So, you know, Jeremy Corbyn was kicked out.

01:04Keir Starmer's not that much different than Tories in some way.

01:07So there's quite a centrist.

01:08And people up north and other places, they're just like, it's a protest, really, isn't it, really?

01:15I believe the Green Party is going to do better in London in comparison.

01:18I believe the reform, they do well in communities that aren't diverse.

01:23So therefore, they kind of run on fear and stuff like that.

01:25Green Party, a lot of people push about because they don't understand the ideologies that they want to push.

01:30And we need a lot of the ideologies that they want to push.

01:33So in regard to the comparison of both of them, reform is going to do well, but outside of London.

01:39And that's a good thing because we don't need it.

01:42We really don't need it.

01:43What they push is division.

01:44What they push is negativity.

01:46And what they push is nothing we need, really and truly.

01:49Because I see a comparison to what's happened in America, which has created more of a division.

01:54It's not improving the situation at all.

01:57I would argue a lot of people say it's anti-immigration.

02:00But again, it's just the rise of populism.

02:02And local elections are always like a low turnout.

02:05Whether they get a hold of London boroughs, I think it's unlikely.

02:11But it's never to say it's impossible.

02:13I mean, you might find that donut effect.

02:15I mean, what's so surprising is just how many, you know, Lincoln, I'm from Lincolnshire,

02:19and Lincoln Council then got like, they own the council, which is, that's never happened before.

02:25You know, even the Lib Dems, you know, Respect managed to get East London quite a few years ago.

02:29The Green Party and Bryan.

02:31But they've never really had any sort of national, nationwide appeal.

02:35But reformers managed to convert a lot of these sort of people who are angry with the Tories.

02:39Whether or not it transforms into the national, I don't know.

02:42As long as we continue getting educated by the correct people,

02:46as long as we don't get manipulated by the wrong people,

02:48I feel we'll continue doing well.

02:50Because it's just, the wrong people can sell you a story.

02:54And as long as you don't fool for that particular story, then you'll be fine.
